  1. Hello guys,
  2.
  3. I am a linux user since a long time. In this time most linux distributions went through an rough evolution with there init systems. In the last 10 years I had linux system that used BSD-init, SysV-init, initNG, Upstart, Systemd and many others.
  4.
  5. Every now and then I was looking at FreeBSD, and the last time I looked (yesterday) it still used the old shell-script-based bsd-init. Through I have to admit that a shell-script-based init-system bribes with its simplicity, I would nether want to miss some of the features of systemd e.g. multithreaded startup, socket activation, complex dependency solver, ... .
  6. On the other hand, I really want to miss the over systemd features: complex configs, unclear administration and debugging tools, ...
  7.
  8. Now my question:
  9.
  10. I saw that there are projects that try to implement some of this features on FreeBSD (jobd and nosh). But they look inactive, complicate to install and not well supported.
  11.
  12. Are there "major" plans to adapt the "good" systemsd features on FreeBSD?
  13.
  14. In my eyes, FreeBSD has now the unique possibility to learn from the mistakes that the Linux distributions did, and to start with a clean, well designed, robust, feature proofed, init system.
  15.
  16. Sorry for the long email,
  17.
  18. Greetings, Eddy
  19.
  20. PS. Thank you for the greate show :-)
