  1. SPIDER-GWEN
  2.
  3. > CHARACTERS WITH ECCENTRICIES ENDURE AND HOLD THE READER - FIERCE DESIRES, STRANGE MANNERISMS, UNRELENTING DRIVE
  4.
  5. -spider moves a few inches to the right, bites Gwen instead
  6. --she tells Peter early on and he invents her tech, web shooters, and radio that he dispenses advice on
  7. --workin' together for friendship and lovin'
  8. --Peter supports Gwen with drones, later creates an armored suit and calls it Hornet/Yellowjacket; after it gets trashed, Kingpin steals it and creates the Scorpion, Rhino, and Vulture armors from the plans: turns into Armor Wars as Peter fights to stop this mistake he made without Gwen's help
  9. --Peter provides Ben's famous line to focus their mission; since Aunt May is dead, Uncle Ben is here for that support
  10. ---May was killed since Gwen didn't have the experience with her powers to stop this burglar, filling her with doubt and having her ask Peter for help
  11.
  12. SPIDER-GWEN GEAR:
  13. -Web shooters (with adjustable settings for webswinging, impact webbing, and nets)
  14. -Sonic blasters (after the Venom fight, AKA the optional Shocker gauntlets)
  15. -Flash bombs
  16. -Smoke pellets
  17. -Radio earpiece and hidden microphone for communication with Peter
  18.
  19. Make Gwen the morals and ethics of the group. She had the strict cop dad. with both Uncle Ben and Aunt May around Peter is still a whiny ass who takes everything for granted- more prone to the entices of the dark-side.
  20. --Since Peter's focus is responsibility, why not make Gwen's courage?
  21. Have Captain Stacey say something like, "Power is meaningless without the courage to do the right thing."
  22. Gwen could freeze in panic on her first encounter with a gun, and feel guilty about letting the guy get away to harm someone.
  23. --Gwen is NOT witty, Peter is. But she uses sheer ballsiness to face the terrifying situations she's in.
  24.
  25. It could be argued that Black Suit Pete was taking on too much responsibility, allowing the symbiote to make him irritable and isolated from his friends. Therefore Black-Suit Gwen would be aggressively courageous, and become a bit of an overbearing jerk who threatens any other woman who gets near Pete.
  26. --To further expand on this, courage could also mean the conviction to stand up and do the right thing, no matter what others say.
  27.
  28. -Doc Ock and Connors are rivals and both try to mentor Peter, using his tech prowess to fuel their little feud
  29. --Doc Ock is a reformed criminal but he still has his...issues.
  30.
  31. -Black Tarantula leaves his villain stage and starts flirting with Spider-Gwen
  32.
  33. -Mary Jane is a decent person like usual but has her bouts of pettiness, likes Peter but doesn't like Gwen as much
  34. --Gets corrupted by Venom to amplify her emotions, Gwen and Peter soon notice something is wrong with her
  35.
  36. -Later Venom spawns a symbiote, and it goes to Felicia Hardy, amplifying her inner fears of Cletus Kasady, a man who tormented her childhood, and adopts his personality from her memories
  37. --It looks like the symbiote itself is alive and talking to Felicia as Kasady when she's alone, but really she's developed multiple personality disorder and is arguing with this other personality
  38. --Like Kasady, Carnage cares about Gwen to an unhealthy degree and is always trying to get her to do things that are "good" for her
  39. --Keeps wanting to "liven" up her parties
  40.
  41. Furthermore: we can ride this suit thing all the way home and say the symbiotes are man-made. They were supposed to be "biological" powersuits, but they were made with alien gunk and thus went awry. Later Kingpin goes back to technology for his suits, but uses Peter's plans to make suits better than the ones he came up with. The Venom/Carnage fight at the end could be the final push to destroy the Kingpin's powersuit plans forever.
  42.
  43. I was thinking of giving Pete the idea that "every time you try to help, you just make things worse", in that he built the first suit for good, but it was easily re-purposed for evil.
  44. This makes him question how "responsible" his actions really were, and when someone (lets say Wolverine) calls him out on the hypocrisy of running away from his responsibilities just to cry about them, Pete begins to man up and become the true never-say-die quipster he was meant to be.
  45. --Maybe have him gone for less than selfish reasons. I'm sure SHIELD would want a few words with him about that fiasco that just went down in New York. He goes along fully expecting he's going to be locked up like a supervillain for the mistake. Play that up from Gwen's POV and then when he makes it back it'd be all the more emotional. Plus, again, it'd make an Iron Man appearance at the end of the Armor Wars work well.
  46. --Peter returns in his Spider Armor with laser webs and trap-based gadgets: it's shaped like the Spider Armor, but red and gold like Iron Spider
  47.
  48. -Team up occasionally with Rogue, Daredevil, Iceman, Firebird
  49.
  50. -Venom, Carnage, Scorpion, Rhino, vulture, Chameleon (a stealth suit) = Salvation Six
  51.
  52. Counterbalance. Peter is skilled and smart, but Gwens the superhuman here. Sure, his armor can take, say, a shotgun to the chest at close range and not die, but a superhuman punch still makes normal bones rattle around a metal tube.
  53.
  54. Maybe even a scene after Peter gets his ass kicked, his suit is caved in and crushing him. Gwen rushes over, rips the suit off him, and makes sure he's okay. Which goes a long way to both show that:
  55. A. He's human, and his suits tough but still metal. Gwen tears it off with relative ease, meaning Rhino wouldn't have trouble.
  56. B. She's the hero in this story. Not him.
  57.
  58.
  59. I'm loving this idea so far and I just a brilliant idea, have Peter's remote control Iron Spider resemble Leopardon(aka Japanese Spiderman's giant robot)
  60. -Maybe the first one, before Pete realizes it's far too bulky. Gwen points out that huge and bulky works for giant robots because they're fighting big slow monsters, but versus a guy like Shocker or Electro, it's a giant target.
  61.
  62. A good way to stress that Peter is analytical and scientific and Gwen is logical and straight-forward.
  63.
  64.
  65. >Peter and Gwen date for a while
  66. >Eventually Captain Stacy meets Aunt May and Uncle Ben
  67. >Stacy and Ben becomes friends. Stacy eventually confides that the pressures of his job as pollce captain are getting to him and hes starting to have lapses in moral judgement (racial profiling, corruption, etc)
  68. >Uncle Ben tells him "with great power comes great responsibility). This helps to set him staight and pull him out of his funk
  69. >Fast forward a few months. Spider-Gwen is in a huge battle. Her dad, as well as other police officers, are casualties do to her inexperience/fighting style
  70. >As she holds her dying father, she pulls off her mask and shows her that she's Spider-Gwen
  71. >His last words are "listen Gwen, with great power comes great responsibility. You have power to bring so much good into this world. Use it wisely. I love you."
  72. BETTER IDEA:
  73. Maybe some hints that he knows damn well who it is.
  74.
  75. What father WOULDN'T know his daughters voice and mannerisms?
  76. Maybe just a quick scene when Spider-Woman works with the cops.
  77. "Spider-Woman..."
  78. She pauses.
  79. "If you see Gwen...if you see my daughter...tell her that her father loves her. And he's very proud of her."
  80. Gwen, choking back tears, responds, "She knows, Captain. But I'll tell her anyway."
  81.
  82. "It might be your power making this possible, but its both our responsibilities." - Peter, to Spider Woman
  83.
  84.
  85. Also how is Gwenom gonna act?
  86.
  87. I'd imagine her being very possessive, but very assertive. She's not a harpy, she's just overly protective.
  88. Think the start of an abusive relationship. She doesn't outright beat Peter around, but she constantly asks him who the hell he was talking to.
  89. "Liz? She's always making fun of me, asking me out and giving fake numbers. I don't-"
  90. "NEVER talk to her again."
  91. Gwen has Peter jacked against a locker, quite far off the ground.
  92. "Gwen...spider-strength..."
  93. She drops him, "Just...stay away from her. For your own good. Now c'mon, walk me to class." She grabs his wrist, wrenching and bruising it, worrying Peter as she's never this careless about her strength.
  94. --Possessive in more of a jilted lover sort of way.
  95.
  96. Whereas Gwen is more protective and "Don't talk to her, or I'll snap her like a slim jim!"
  97. --Anger? Arrogance? If her father dies before the symbiote gets her, she could lash out violently against the world of crime. If he hasn't died yet she could just arrogantly tell Peter that she doesn't need him any more (she has her own webs, the symbiote is bullet proof, etc) and shun/ignore any sort of authority figure like firemen or police (maybe bust up a hostage situation because she thinks the cops are being too slow).
  98.
  99. MJ will be more "You HURT US, Peter. You turned on us, left us for that your little beef tart!"
  100.
  101. So all of that mentioned and considered, how does the Symbiote change Gwen? What personality traits does it emphasize? Obviously a degree of confidence and arrogance, but what else?
  102.
  103. What does the rejection of the symbiote Ideologically mean for Gwen? When it finds MJ, what common traits are we supposed to identify in this new "Dark Side Doppleganger"? How does their battle represent Gwen's own internal battle? I get it, the initial joke was that Venom was Yandere, but you have to look deeper to find richer story opportunities. So Gwen and MJ both are attracted to Peter? For what reasons? What is the root of the friendship between them all?
  104.
  105. What would have to happen to make MJ hate both Gwen and Spidergirl? It has to have layers.
  106.
  107. Maybe MJ grows angry with Gwen for how their friendship suffers due to Gwen's hero duties? Then she gets pissed at how Gwen begins to treat everyone when she gets the suit? Maybe she's angry that Gwen "stole" Peter yet she's never around to actually be a girlfriend?
  108.
  109. You need to heap on the misery so a snowball becomes an avalanche. It has to start with minor things, then major things, then when they might repair it the whole mess falls through, and they barely speak because of it. Give MJ a presumably legitimate series of grievances and then allow them to fester. Then you have to come up with a reason for her to grow to hate Spidergirl.
  110. ---As for the virtues. Corrupting Courage into Pride for Gwenom sounds ideal. They say that courage is acting despite fear, so pride could be blocking that fear, which leads to arrogance and overconfidence. I'm not going to stick to a template for the other ones, but Lust would be a great way to describe VenoMJ. Carnage is a different story, considering it's just Felicia going insane, but the virtue thing would be great for showing how VenoMJ is the darker doppelganger of Gwenom.
  111.
  112.
  113. ON CARNAGE AND FELICIA: She gets infected with Carnage due to her relationship with MJ. I really haven't read the symbiote discussions as much as I probably should have, but if we're going with "not alien, organic war suit" angle, then MJ knows about the second suit and exposes Felicia because she thinks that Felicia will help her since they're friends. Felicia doesn't know she's been infected (some crazy super villain threw something at her) and starts going crazy because of it.
  114. --I like it. She's terrified of what's going on around her, the Venom symbiote spawns all over her (giggity), and enhances the terror to the point where it reaches into her subconscious and remembers a family friend who did horrible things and made her watch (never to her. It might be a person thing, but I find the idea that he never physically hurt or touched Felicia, but did horrible things to cats, other people, etc. much more terrifying.)
  115.
  116. So it twists that fear into a second psyche.
  117. Maybe the whole point of the suits was to take the adrenaline and feelings of invulnerability a soldier might feel and enhance them to the point where they don't hesitate and just fight, but was discontinued for being extremely dangerous and, obviously, not working.
  118. (Maybe a reference to a labmouse displaying a 200% increase in strength and 20% increase in muscular size and density, but the suit seemed to simply amplify emotion and mental activity at its' own regard, rather than just what they wanted)
  119.
  120.
  121. #1: Origin.
  122. -Gwen is bitten by the spider and becomes Spider Woman. She immediately starts to work as a superhero, but her inexperience with her powers results in a lot of problems, especially with the tech-based illusionist Mysterio. She confides in Peter her feverent desire to improve and be a worthy hero, and Peter vows to help her by supplying her with gear. Gwen defeats Mysterio with his help, cementing her first major victory as Spider Woman.
  123. --Starts with Gwen unconcious, hearing voices about the spider-bite, and then waking up collapsed on the floor surrounded by her friends
  124.
  125. #2: Symbiote.
  126. -Kingpin's biological, uncontrollable powersuit escapes the labs. Gwen stumbles on it somehow and it bonds to her, copying her powers. Increased power comes at the price of growing mental instability, which raises tensions with Peter and Mary Jane. Realizing the symbiote is weak to sonics, Gwen uses audio feedback from her radio to remove it. Just as Mary Jane is passing through...
  127. --OR: Peter shows up with the Shocker gauntlets, designed to blast sound waves, and wrecks the suit with them after he realizes the symbiote's weakness.
  128.
  129. #3: Venom.
  130. -MJ's love of Peter and dislike of Gwen is amplified by the symbiote, and she swears to claim Peter, promising to be like "venom" to Gwen. Gwen and Peter soon notice MJ's behavior is off, and consults with Otto Octavius to bounce the symbiote for good. During the fight, the symbiote secretly produces an offspring, and makes its way towards Felicia Hardy. Having previously revealed her sordid past with the now dead Cletus Kasady, Felicia is surprised when she hears his voice haunting her again.
  131. --OR: Venom is not defeated in this issue, and Mary Jane attends a party with Felicia, the symbiote wanting to produce more like it. MJ accidentally primes Felicia's fear of Kasady, which leans to Carnage splashing her and amplifying that.
  132.
  133. #4: Carnage.
  134. -Having bonded with Felicia, it appears as the symbiote is mimicking the personality of Cletus Kasady, when it turns out that Felicia has developed a split personality disorder and is arguing to herself to not give into the symbiote. Terrified, Felicia confides in Gwen, but it's revealed that Carnage recognizes Gwen from her time with the first symbiote and really leads her into a trap. Thanks to some improvised sonics from Gwen and a timely rescue from Peter, Carnage is vanquished...for now.
  135.
  136. #5: Yellowjacket.
  137. -Feeling concern for Gwen's safety and his own sense of growing responsibility, Peter creates a powersuit he calls "Yellowjacket" to aid Gwen. Meanwhile, Octavius decides to lash back at society, and with the help of Black Tarantula (and secretly the Kingpin), he assumes the mantle of Doctor Octopus to take his revenge. The fight is fierce, and during the struggle, Octopus trashes Peter who hasn't had as much experience as Gwen. Octopus is defeated, but the suit is wrecked and Peter feels like being Yellowjacket just made things worse. The Kingpin then salvages Yellowjacket. His symbiotes might have failed, but with this...
  138.
  139. #6: Armor Wars.
  140. -Gwen fights off someone in an armored suit designed like a scorpion. When Peter analyzes a piece of it, he's shocked to learn that it's based on his tech. Feeling regret for his mistake, he goes on a one-man campaign to stop these armors as Gwen must deal with other armored villains attacking New York. Finally, the villains get together, and Kingpin announces that they will kill Spider Woman together. He also kidnaps MJ and Felicia to serve as Venom and Carnage - having regained the symbiotes, they won't work for anyone else, but with his new control collars, they'll serve him.
  141.
  142. #7: Salvation Six.
  143. -The assembled Salvation Six strike, and they're too powerful for Gwen to defeat, even with all the strategy Peter can muster. Thanks to a timely intervention by Black Tarantula, Gwen escapes, but badly injured. It's revealed that the Kingpin is J. Jonah Jameson, obsessed with creating a peaceful city with his "Salvation Six" protecting the streets from criminals like Spider-Woman. Distraught that he couldn't help, Peter leaves Gwen to try and convince Doctor Octopus to help him create new tech to stop the Six. After some convincing, Ock agrees. Meanwhile, Gwen throws herself back into the fight with Black Tarantula's help.
  144.
  145. #8: Kingpin's World.
  146. -Spider Woman and Tarantula return to fight the Salvation Six, and it begins to go as well as it did last time. Peter returns just in time, controlling the Salvation Slayer remotely. All the city rallies to cheer on Spider Woman and the others as the brawl explodes across the city. Finally, Gwen defeats them, and rapples up to stop Kingpin and reveal his charade. JJJ runs off, swearing that someday he'll stop that "wall-crawling menace". Freeing MJ and Felicia from the symbiotes and sealing them up, Gwen and Peter celebrate with a kiss to seal the deal.
  147.
  148.
  149. SECOND ARC: BIOLOGICAL THEMED
  150. -Man-Spider, Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, Green Goblin
  151. --Gwen mutates organic web shooters and stingers in homage to the Other...then it gets worse and worse
  152. --The goal of the arc is to cure herself of Man-Spider while dealing with the Green Goblin
  153.
  154. -Meanwhile Octvaius and Connors are rivals to mentor Peter
  155. --This Doc Connors has the personality and ambition of Doctor Nemesis
  156. --After the Lizard is dealt with, he takes the identity of Doctor Nemesis to aid Peter
  157.
  158. -Superior Rob Paulsen Hydro Man shows up
  159.
  160. -Green Goblin is the "final boss" of this arc
  161.
  162. --Final confrontation: without her serum to keep her mutation at bay, Gwen transforms
  163. GREEN GOBLIN: No, no, go ahead. Relax a little. But hey, it's fine with me. After all...a freak like me needs company!
  164.
  165. -Peter thinks Gwen is dead, goes after Goblin in Yellowjacket II
  166. --GOBLIIIIIIIIIIIIIN
  167. --YOU CAN'T ESCAPE FROM ME, I'LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH.
  168. --Actually deals the death blow himself - Spider-Man tempered by responsbility wouldn't, but he's not Spider-Man and doesn't have that burned in
