Audience: Ah... Wait...? Riku-kun isn't the center...?
Audience: ......Iori-kun......!?
Mister Shimaoka: With Izumi Iori-kun as the new center, IDOLiSH7 has turned over a new leaf! The song is, "Perfection Gimmick!"
Mister Shimaoka: sore de wa douzo

Tsumugi: A sudden center change.
Tsumugi: There was a reason behind that.
Mitsuki: ...You want to listen to my song? (2)
Mitsuki: Then I'll sing as thanks for the delicious cake. Sing with me.
Mitsuki: My song... Zero's song, together with me.

Mitsuki: ...is what he said to me when I met him! Zero was so cool!
Riku: That's nice... I've only seen him on TV.
Tamaki: I've heard his name before. Is he really that amazing?
Iori: Well, he is considered the person who started the current idol boom.
Iori: Although Zero was only active for a short 3 years, all of the businesses affiliated with Zero have been growing by 20% yearly.
Iori: It is said that he increased the economy worldwide by 100 billion yen up until his final year, when he disappeared.
Tamaki: Woah, that's amazing!
Yamato: Even though he was making bank, why'd he disappear at the height of his popularity?
Sougo: And Zero's songwriter, Sakura Haruki-san, ended up in Nagi's country during his search for Zero.
Nagi: YES! And at that time, Haruki entrusted me with the songs that he had written for Zero.
Mitsuki: Hey, hey! Did he happen to say anything about what Zero's like?
Nagi: He told me that Zero's songs are MAGIC-- as if he were a magician casting joy upon his listeners. (4)
Mitsuki: A magician, huh... Ah, I really want to meet him again!
Iori: Speaking of Zero, it seems like they are re-opening Zero Arena.

Sougo: Kokera-otoshi refers to the first public performance done at a newly built theater.
Sougo: It gets a lot of media attention and lots of people are gathered in one place for this event, so the big players in every industry are called forth.
Sougo: I'm sure there'll be top stars from the idol industry, befitting of Zero, performing at the grand opening.

Riku: Welcome back, Manager. You met up with that TV station to-- wait, are you crying!?
Iori: What happened!?
Tsumugi: ....I... I have... A Very-- a very important announcement for everyone...!

Tsumugi: I just want to thank you all... for letting me be IDOLiSH7's manager up to this point...

Sougo: Even though she told me I could consult her on things, did I perhaps rearrange MEZZO"'s schedule around a little too much?
Nagi: OH... I got really excited and took a commemorative photo with those fangirls... Maybe there's an issue with that?
Riku: Is it because I had dance practice late into the night even though she told me to take it easy!?

(2) Mitsuki uses 僕 as his pronoun here instead of his usual オレ, which leads me to believe that he's quoting Zero. MMM YONAGA'S LOW VOICE...
(3) 彼が消えた最終年までに全世界に与えた経済結果は1000億以上ともいわれています。 / Iori is basically wikipedia at this point and reciting all of these economic facts, much to my chagriN, aka 経済結果 is kind of vague? I want to say his net worth internationally was 100 billion yen since that's generally the context we see Big Money Numbers and Famous People in, BUT... ????? Feel free to correct me on this because I am no economics experT
(4) Belated but, omitted subjects/nouns r the Bane of mY ExisTence so there will be a few 'assumed' subjects...  g  od
(5) If You Thought This Exchange Made Zero Sense, You're Right Because English Is Not The Best Medium For Translating Japanese Puns into!!!!
Iori says こけら落とし (kokera-otoshi), which is lit. the opening of a new theater. There's some cool etymology behind it, aka they'd clear off the wood as the last step in construction hence the 'woodblock' in the name, but it's a Very Big Deal!!
ANYWAYS Tamaki is confused, bc that sounds similar to another thing, だるま落とし (daruma-otoshi), which is is this game where you hit little blocks underneath this daruma with a lil mallet and try not to Destroy The Entire thing (it's kinda like Jenga, check it out here: http://45web.net/daruma_otosi.htm).
HENCE WHY TAMAKI's LIKE "AY HOLD UP THEY JUST REBUILT THE PLACE WHY R THEY HITTING IT WITH A HAMMER???" BC HE THINKS KOKERA OTOSHI IS LIKE DARUMA OTOTSHI, but for... theaters/arenas... LmAO

Tamaki: Is getting our own show like, a really big thing?
Mitsuki: It is, it is! We're getting a show that features our name right up top, kinda like "Mister Shimaoka's The TV Man Show"!
Otoharu: Part of the reason why you're getting your own show is because of Mitsuki-kun's hard work on "The TV Man Show," you know?
Mitsuki: H-huh, me?
Banri: Remember how Mister Shimaoka came down with the flu just a little before the end of the year, and had to take a break from the show?
Banri: That one time where you all filmed without Mister Shimaoka.
Banri: A lot of variety show people praised Mitsuki-kun's performance! Especially his ability to talk non-stop and keep the conversation going.
Yamato: Definitely. Mitsu really saved us that time. He connected each conversation topic to the other, and changed topics smoothly too. Mitsu's always doing this for us, though.
Riku: Like during the MC Corner's for live performances! He keeps everyone on topic, and always says stuff to pump everyone up!
Mitsuki: I... I don't do anything out of the ordinary though...
Otoharu: That's what you think, but it's an incredibly valuable talent to people in the TV business!
Mitsuki: Ah......
Otoharu: Thank you, Mitsuki-kun. It's because of your talent that we've secured a show for IDOLiSH7.
Mitsuki: Because of... me...?
Iori: It's incredible, Nii-san! People in the industry are finally recognizing your talent, just from watching your work!

Riku: Ooh, it sounds interesting!
Tsumugi: There'll be a lot of places to film at, so it'll be even busier than ever.....

Banri: There'll be a lot of big-name shows you guys will be guest-starring in, like "Monday Golden Paradise" and "Goodnight, Calico Cat Alleyway." (8)

Sougo: Re:vale!?
Banri: Yeah. The group that was the overall winner for this year's Black or White-- Re:vale.
Mitsuki: Re:vale, huh. I really look up to them! Momo-san and Yuki-san are so cool!

Also Tsumugi mentions 'amateurs' literally 素人さん....... i am not familiar enough with JP variety/anything shows to speak but holy hell please correct me if im wrong

Tsumugi: Ever since the start of the new year, he's been appearing on more and more variety shows so he's the most popular member by far.
Iori: Indeed. Do you understand why Yotsuba-san is so popular?
Tsumugi: Because of his appearance and dancing... And also because there's lots of talk about his younger sister Aya, even though Tamaki didn't quite intend for this to happen. (1)
Tsumugi: However, I think the main reason is this: Tamaki is very close to the audience.
Iori: Exactly.
Iori: If he finds something boring, it'll show on his face since he's an honest person. And he'll say what the audience members are all thinking, directly and without any hesitation. (2)
Iori: That being said, Yotsuba-san and Nii-san are complete opposites.
Iori: Nii-san is closer to his fellow performers, the creators, while Yotsuba-san is closer to the audience.
Iori: If there's a lull in the conversation, Nii-san always tries his best to get everyone excited. Hence why his co-stars are quite fond of him.
Iori: However, from the viewer's perspective, the merry atmosphere of the show feels forced at times.
Iori: In contrast, Yotsuba-san does not pander to those around him and oftentimes says something unexpected, which causes a stir at the studio. As such, viewers feel a sense of admiration and intimacy for Yotsuba-san's character. (3)
Tsumugi: The performers' side, and the viewers' side...... Television is quite deep, isn't it?
Iori: On the flip side, we have nothing to fear since we have these two as members in our group.

Tsumugi: And so, facing the new season head on, IDOLiSH7 is off to a running start!
Tsumugi: With the start of their own show drawing close, their dizzyingly busy days began.

Tsumugi: The super-detailed planning meeting......
Show Producer: "A Lovely Night with IDOLiSH7! -- a show where IDOLiSH7 and amateurs challenge all sorts of things." That's the kind of program it'll be.
Show Producer: Both the studio, where guests will be invited to talk with you all, and the filming location will be vital. IDOLiSH7 is great on talk shows, so I have great expectations!
Riku: Yes! We look forward to working with you.
Show Producer: As for the challenges for this first episode, we've already collected via public responses! Challenge: Taking an Exam, Challenge: Making Soba, and Challenge: Being an Okami For a Day. (7)
Tamaki: Taking an exam... Can we all study together? If so, that's perfect timing since finals are right around the corner...
Iori: You just want everyone to tutor you, don't you?
Sougo: How about the two of you take on this challenge? I'm sure you can cover for each other.
Iori: Aren't you burdening me with a little too much....?
Mitsuki: Making soba sounds pretty interesting! If we get good at it, then we won't have to order take-out anymore!
Nagi: Then we can eat tempura soba ANYTIME!
Riku: And Mitsuki's a certified chef since his family owns a cake shop! I mean, soba and mont blancs are pretty similar, right?
Mitsuki: Not in the slightest. That's an insult to both of them, y'know.
Yamato: More importantly, do we have to crossdress for the okami challenge......
Show Producer: Mhmm.
Yamato: Let's settle this. Rock paper scissors.
Mitsuki: Alright, let's go.

Tsumugi: And so, to promote the show, the members began their guest-appearances.
Host: Today's guest is IDOLiSH7! We'll be asking you plenty of questions about the behind-the-scenes aspects of your show, which will air soon, "A Lovely Night with IDOLiSH7!"
Riku: We look forward to it!
Iori: We look forward to it.
Host: Let's get right down to it. Have you watched our show before?
Riku: Yes! There's lots of escape games! I'm not too great at figuring out codes though.
Host: That's exactly what you'll be doing today! All 7 of you will work together to escape from this set within the given time limit!
Nagi: OH! Tamaki, what's the matter? Why are you hiding behind me?
Tamaki: N-no... Isn't this a haunted house?
Nagi: It looks gloomy, but it's not a haunted house.
Riku: Yeah! That, and ghosts aren't scary at all. Back when I was hospitalized, I saw quite a few but......
Iori: How about you /not/ tell ghost stories to someone who is already scared.
Tamaki: I'm not going in! Never!

Mitsuki: And now for IDOLiSH7's Gourmet Tour! Hopefully we'll be off on and on our way soon.
Mitsuki: ....What are you doing! We gotta go soon! ....Huh!? A super-cheap sweets shop!?
Yamato: Here. This is fugashi.
Sougo: Oh? I've never been to a sweets shop before...
Yamato: Really? Then this one's on me.
Mitsuki: Man, we literally just started and we're already off track. Ah! If it's your first time, Sougo, then you should get this! Ah, and also this, this, and this!
Yamato: Someone sure is generous when it's Onii-san's wallet that has to take the hit instead.
Sougo: Ahaha, this is great! It's just like Christmas!

Tsumugi: And so, IDOLiSH7's first recording session of the year came, for the theme song that would accompany their show!
Otoharu: Congrats on the show! It was decided a while ago, but here's the theme song!
Mitsuki: Wow..... What a great song! I'm sure our viewers will remember it and singing it too!
Nagi: It's PERFECT for Riku's voice!
Riku: You think so? Thanks!
Iori: This is the biggest chance for us, IDOLiSH7, to spread our name. Sing it with all your might!
Riku: Yeah! Got-- *cough* ...Got it!

(1) Tsumugi says ご本人は不本意 which throws me off a little because either it was Tamaki or Aya that was unwilling/unintentional abt Aya turning into a big buzzword kinda thing?? Mm it makes more sense for Tamaki to be the subject though, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
(2) iori can u maybe, talk likea  normal 17 ye ar o ld.? the quick and dirty summary is that say Tamaki's' on a show and he's bored. He's not gonna make any attempts to look remotely interested because if he's bored, he's bored. If the audience is thinking 'damn this is a boring ass show," he might voice similar thoughts since he's that kind of person-- unabashedly direct, straightforward, honest (even when he shouldn't be). It's this sort of in-group analysis that makes me enjoy Iori's lines so muCH. Also sINCE IM ON THIS TANGENT ANYWAYS, this makes MEZZO" a pretty interesting dynamic since they are Very Much So opposites, with Sougo being the definition of restraint, propriety, following rules etcetc.

ANYWAYS to clarify just in case, Mitsuki is much closer to the 'creators' aka the people on the other side of the screen, while Tamaki is closer to the audience/your side of the screen. Mitsuki will try to 'create' the appropriate atmosphere for a show, aka push the conversation where it needs to go. Hence sometimes variety shows will feel 'fake' or staged. But Tamaki is, again, not one to suck-up to any of his co-stars and probably will be honest if their joke sucks, even if it disrupts the flow of conversation. ThiS TL NOTE Is turning into a lot of me extrapolating but g g gg  od, Iori is a meta-machine in his own right even though he himself is the source material!!

So Riku has this overwhelming, excellent, incredible, fantastic singing power. And is a genius, possessing a charm to him that makes everyone love him. That is the literal. Riku just has something in him that you can't help but love-- and that's what Iori is dubbing 'genius' because Riku just does it; it's something intrinsic.

There's two main ways you can become a certified chef in Japan! One is to go to culinary school for 1+ years, graduate, and you can get your certification without taking an exam that way. The other way is to work for 2+ years in an actual restaurant/food place, and if you pass the license test you'll get your certification. Seeing how the Izumi's have Fonte Chocolate aka the cake shop (did u mean patisserie bc its fancy af maN), I'm guessing Mitsuki probably just went and took the test since he's already got irl experience in the food industry from that. I don't know what these TL notes are turning into but i do know that i'm doing a lot of aimless googling here and there and this is kind of a Mess.

Iori: Re:vale have been consistently winning, so things like common courtesy and greeting others might be trivial to them.

(1) temiyage is like this small gift thing given to visitors. I'm assuming that there generally is one for guests (on shows etc), so the lack of one was unsettling to the i7 boys. Aka iori talking about 'ok maybe re:v are like super big-shots so idk they dont needa be polite anymore ya feel" and tamaki and sougo going "o shit thATS wHy we don't have this Common Courtesty Item ...."
