- >Fresh out of college with a degree in no fucking jobs, Anon put his $150K degree to use getting his CDL and finding a job as a local delivery driver for a distribution center
- >They handled a bunch of things, including fabric, for which their largest customer was a surprisingly high volume boutique downtown
- >He got to know everyone he typically delivered too pretty fast, but the owner of that clothing boutique weirded him out a little
- >It's not like she was a bad person, at least she didn't seem like one
- >She was just odd, and not in the way that monsters usually were
- >She stared at him constantly, oftentimes taking an uncomfortable amount of time to respond to him only to seemingly meander through sentences like she wasn't sure what she even wanted to say
- >It wasn't the typical lustful eyes though, she looked like she was sizing him up
- >The same look a guy at the bar gives another guy right before he glasses him
- >At the same time though, when she did get a coherent sentence out, she was very polite and amicable
- >Anon asked the other guys at the company about her, but they all said she was normal
- >Well, as normal as a Jorogumo could be, a lot of people were creeped out by the fact that they could totally conceal their monster parts and look like a normal human
- >She had done that the first time Anon had stopped there, though he could understand that she may have been wary about a new driver possibly being anti-monster
- >After that though, it was almost like she was flaunting her spider parts
- >Still, nice enough
- >Winter came quickly, and with it came coats, gloves and a nice warm hat
- >Company policy was that he had to present the standard uniform to customers though, so it all got tossed onto a box or something when he went in to have them sign
- >That Jorogumo though
- >She always watched him from the window while he was unloading the truck, but twice he had noticed that she was more watching where he was leaving his stuff than watching him
- >Then his hat went missing
- >Normally he didn't even think about it, he just grabbed his stuff and tossed it in the truck with him when he left
- >When he got to his next stop, his hat wasn't there
- >The last place he had it was at that Jorogumo's shop, but he didn't want to accuse without proof, he probably just dropped it
- >Although she hadn't been anywhere in the store when he had looked for her to sign
- >And she came in through the same door he did when she turned up
- >Still, Anon's parents taught him to never assume malice, maybe she just liked him
- >Little did he know just how right he was
- >On a particularly cold day, she asked him to stay for some hot chocolate
- >She was his last delivery of the day, so he figured it couldn't hurt
- >The hot chocolate was good, and the stay was uneventful, though he didn't see how she caressed his mug after he left
- >The next time he delivered to her, she was his first stop of the day, and she had a thermos of hot chocolate waiting for him
- >He thanked her and told her he'd wash it before bringing it back
- >She was oddly insistent that he needn't bother, but he washed it anyways because momma didn't raise an inconsiderate slob
- >All the same, she thanked him for bringing it back to her and offered to have some for him every morning if he would stop by
- >He was pretty positive that she was into him by now, and was pretty happy that she wasn't using the typical monster technique of smash and grab
- >Frankly, he was into her too
- >She never made a move though, and any of his attempts to take the initiative were politely deflected
- >It kind of got him down, but at least she was good company
- >Things got strange after he came down with the flu though
- >Two days of feeling like death and puking his guts up was capped off by the fact that his neighbor knocked on his door and handed him a big bowl of soup and a note wishing him well in almost impossibly good handwriting
- >His first thought was her, and that she had simply been too shy to knock on his door herself
- >When he got back to work and stopped at her boutique, he asked her
- >She denied it, and added that he had never even told her where he lived
- >A good point
- >Winter turned into spring, and the warmer temperatures meant he didn't need to stop by her shop for that thermos of hot chocolate anymore
- >So she started inviting him for a morning snack
- >Everything went the same, nice company but never anything beyond that
- >Things changed on the first day of summer though
- >It was like a switch flipped
- >She went from warm and friendly to curt and professional
- >He wasn't Anon anymore, he was Mr. Ymous
- >Truth be told, his feelings were a little hurt
- >But once again, momma didn't raise a petty man
- >After about a month and a half of pure professionalism, he caught her staring at him again
- >His happiness over the idea that she might soften up again was ruined when he got home from work that day
- >Someone had been in his apartment
- >Nothing was stolen, nothing was out of place
- >There was no trace of anyone coming or going, but he could just feel it
- >Someone had been there
- >Parental lessons be damned
- >He got in his car and headed back down to that shop and found her just closing up
- >He demanded to know what her deal was and asked her if she had broken into his home
- >If she was acting, she was damn good at it
- >She teared up a little and shouted at him
- >She was angry, furious even
- >How dare he accuse her of something like that, she had been here, at her store, all day
- >Feeling ashamed, Anon squeaked out an apology
- >"Whatever, just leave"
- >Anon stared at the ceiling all night
- >He swapped routes with another driver the next morning
- >Now he wouldn't have to see her and have it be awkward
- >Work went on as usual
- >Anon saw some new faces, it was refreshing
- >He still missed that Jorogumo a bit
- >It happened again, someone had been in his apartment
- >This time, while he was still home
- >While he was asleep
- >The only thing that was touched was a chair that had been brought into his bedroom
- >Someone had watched him sleep
- >Anon started to break down a bit
- >He called the police and filed a report, but he was doubtful anything would come of it
- >He also called a friend and arranged to stay with him for a few days until his landlord got new doors and windows installed
- >The locks he had clearly weren't cutting it
- >He stopped back at his place a few days later to pick up some things
- >There was a note on the fridge that hadn't been there when he left
- >"Where did you go? I miss you, come back soon."
- >That same impeccable handwriting from the bowl of soup
- >Anon became paranoid
- >He started taking days off of work
- >Whenever he'd go out, he'd constantly search for possible pursuers
- >He was turning into a total wreck
- >Thankfully, his landlord gave him a call before the week was out and let him know that everything was all set
- >Anon returned home ecstatic
- >A new door, with 3 deadbolts on it
- >A new sliding door to his balcony with tempered glass and multiple latches
- >Windows with tempered glass and multiple latches
- >It was just new locks in an apartment, but it felt like a fortress
- >Anon made sure everything was locked up tight that night before bed and went to bed feeling better than he had in months
- >The morning brought terror
- >One of his windows was open
- >The deadbolts on the door were all undone too
- >In his panic, he almost missed the note on the fridge
- >"Locking me in here with you, I didn't know you were so naughty. It got a little stuffy last night, I hope you don't mind that I let in some fresh air. See you again sonn, handsome."
- >That was it
- >Anon broke
- >He relocked everything and decided that if he never left and never slept, no one could get in again without him noticing
- >Just over three days
- >Anon lasted just over three days before finally succumbing to the sweet embrace of sleep
- >By the time he finally fell asleep, he was jibbering incoherently and hallucinating
- >At least, he thought he was hallucinating
- >There was no other explanation for that Jorogumo from the clothing boutique to be standing there in his apartment when he left the bathroom
- >She even helped him bathe and change his clothes that he'd been wearing for days
- >Nice silk boxers and a t-shirt
- >He didn't remember buying those, but he must have since they were there
- >Before he closed his eyes, he apologized to her for accusing her of breaking into his home
- >If he couldn't say it to her, he could at least say it to an imaginary her
- >He awoke after sleeping for almost a full day
- >The hallucination of that Jorogumo was still there too
- >Its not a hallucination
- >Panic soon turned into brain shattering terror when he realized that he was tied down to his bed
- >He tried to scream but his mouth was covered by spider webs woven together like cloth
- >"Shhh, shhh, it's okay, I'm here. You don't have anything to worry about, husband."
- >Surely he heard wrong
- >Husband? What the fuck was this woman talking about?
- >Noticing the look of confusion, she smiled
- >"Don't play coy, husband. You put those clothes I made for you on yourself, that means we're married."
- >All Anon could do was laugh through his gag while tears streamed down his face
- >"It's okay, I understand that you've been under a lot of stress lately, but I'll make it all better and then we can be happy."
