  5. “The Sniper” introduction paragraph
  6. “The Sniper” is a story that tells the gripping tale of two brothers facing each other on the battlefield. The story takes place during the Irish Revolution, a bloody war that tore many families apart. O’Flaherty creates suspense by not revealing what will happen next. “There was a small hole where the bullet had entered.”(O’Flaherty 263) This quote is suspenseful since it is uncertain how O’Connell will be hindered as a result of him getting shot. O’Flaherty uses vague statements like those to generate suspense, and to keep the reader questioning what will happen next.
