A common rule of thumb is that you can survive: 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, or 3 weeks without food.
rule of thumb = a simple general rule that is not perfect or precise, but usually good enough

They need to be responsible. That will make their jobs more successful.
(responsible = adjective; successful = adjective)
They need responsibility in order to succeed at their jobs.
(responsibility = noun; succeed = verb)

“sacrificial” is an adjective for the thing that is sacrificed
As a personality trait you’d have to say something like “willing to sacrifice”.
