  1. ---Stranded--2---------------------------
  2. >She looked downwards, eyes held shut.
  3. >"And after all I did... you`re going to get rid of me, right?"
  4. >That would probably be the sensible thing to do, but there was some pesky thing keeping you from doing exactly that, called emotions.
  5. >The girl was stranded here with nothing.
  6. >And for some reason, you decided to relent.
  7.
  8. "If what you`re saying is true, then no. I think it will be best if you stay here."
  9. >She opened her eyes and looked across the room at you.
  10. >"Wait... you`re gonna let me stay?"
  11.
  12. "Well, I don`t think you`ll have much better chances anywhere else. I mean, I`m one of the more reasonable people I`ve seen, and I fucking shot you, so... yeah."
  13. >You thanked anything above for the fact that you lived out in the middle of Fuck-All, Nowhere, because if you`d been near people, there would have been police.
  14.
  15. >You saw her face go through a few expressions.
  16. >Confusion, relief, anger, and then she settled on worry.
  17. >"But... when am I gonna get home...? How... am I gonna..."
  18. >Right... that was an issue.
  19. >She looked close to tears again as she trailed off.
  20. >Goddamnit, you couldn`t stop yourself.
  21. >You sat the pistol down on the table and walked over to her.
  22.
  23. "We`ll find some way to get you back there."
  24. >Jennete looked down as her eyes began to water.
  25. >"W-will I...? Will I ever see my br-brother again? Oh god... he`s just a baby... and now I`m s-stuck here..."
  26. >Oh.
  27. >That... wasn`t good.
  28. >"My mom`s going to be worried s-sick... why did Loka have to go and d-do this?"
  29. >She curled back up.
  30. >You had no idea what to do at this point.
  31. >She would probably end up sleeping here though, so you got up to go get her a blanket.
  32. >She reached out and grabbed your wrist before you could walk off.
  33. >"W-where are you g-going...?"
  34. >You looked back at her.
  35. >She had a pleading look in her eyes.
  36. >Her hands were... wet for some reason.
  37. >You pulled your arm away and discovered the reason why they were soaked.
  38. >Her hands had... eyes on the palms, which were also crying.
  39.
  40. "Jennette..? Your hands. Why... why are there eyes... on your hands?"
  41. >She lifted her hands up and pointed them at you.
  42. >The eyes looked at you.
  43. >"Well, m-monsters are all pretty different. There are wilder traits th-that I`ve seen."
  44. >She gave you a weak smile.
  45.
  46. "Huh... Anything else I should know about?"
  47. >She seemed to think about this for a moment.
  48. >She`d stopped crying at this point, and you were glad you managed to get her mind off of the painful topic.
  49. >She snapped her fingers.
  50. >"There`s one other thing I can do, but it`s a bit... dangerous."
  51. >Well, she nearly clawed your face off, so how much worse could it be?
  52.
  53. "Well, what is it?"
  54. >She looked up at the ceiling.
  55. >"I can`t get up to show you."
  56. >She shook her injured leg, then you could immediately see the regret on her face.
  57. >"Hmm... maybe that thing, maybe I can," she mumbled to herself.
  58. >You traced her gaze to an old wooden sudoku set sitting on the coffee table.
  59.
  60. "What do you want with that?"
  61. >"Do you ever use that thing?"
  62. >She pointed an open palm at the game.
  63.
  64. "No, actually."
  65. >You could see her excitement.
  66. >"Watch this!"
  67. >The eye on her hand stared at the set.
  68. >Its sclera gradually became a light green color and the pupil shrunk.
  69. >Her arm flexed.
  70. >A pulse of some sort of green energy was emitted from the eye on her palm.
  71. >It moved like a fluid flowing through the air, until it struck the sudoku box.
  72. >The first thing you noticed was a slight sizzling sound, then an odd smell.
  73. >It had a slightly smoking hole eaten through it by the energy, which you believed to be some kind of acidic burst.
  74. >That didn`t fit into any science you knew though, but neither did Jennette.
  75. >You`re suddenly glad she didn`t use that on you during the brief confrontation.
  76.
  77. >"Wasn`t that cool?"
  78. >She sounded a bit let down by your lackluster reaction.
  79.
  80. "It was, but compared to everything that`s happened tonight, it isn`t that big of a deal."
  81. >It was intriguing though, and could probably be useful in your occupation.
  82. >Speaking of said occupation, you should probably head back to bed.
  83. >"I guess so," she said, sounding slightly dissapointed.
  84.
  85. "So, Jennette, I should to go to bed. I have to work tomorrow."
  86. >"Where am I gonna sleep?"
  87. >She looked around, hoping for a good answer.
  88.
  89. "Well, you`ve got the couch you`re on, the other bedroom, the recliner here, and the entire floor. I should grab a blanket for you though."
  90. >Hopefully she wouldn`t ask to sleep with you.
  91. >She was as tall as a child, like four and a half feet at most.
  92. >That would make things a bit... uncomfortable.
  93.
  94. >"I think this couch is comfy enough. I`ll sleep here."
  95. >She moved the pillows around as she got into a more comfortable position.
  96. >You walked to the closet and pulled out a quilt.
  97. >An old patchwork thing, actually handmade by your great-grandma.
  98. >Jennette was looking at the blanket with a sense of wonder.
  99. >"That thing`s really nice. You`re... letting me use it?"
  100.
  101. "Yeah, yeah, just don`t tear it up. It should keep you warm enough."
  102. >You handed it to her.
  103. >She fumbled around with it for a moment, then got it over herself.
  104. >Oh... she was all bundled up in the blankets, only her head poking out.
  105. >No, you will not say it... okay fine, it was really fucking cute.
  106. >She reached up and took her glasses off.
  107. >"Hey, can you put these on that table?"
  108.
  109. "Sure."
  110. >As you put them on the table, you inspected them.
  111. >The lenses were pretty thick, and the frames were a shade of periwinkle.
  112. >You set them down and looked back at Jennette.
  113. >She had curled up inside of the blanket now.
  114. >She lifted her head out of the blankets.
  115. >"Goodnight..."
  116.
  117. "Goodnight Jennette."
  118. >She was out pretty quickly, her quick breathing replaced by a steady and gentle snoring.
  119. >Well, that`s that.
  120. >You smiled.
  121. >This was actually an interesting moment in your life.
  122. >Though you already had a relatively eventful life, though not in a good way.
  123.
  124. >You headed upstairs and laid back down.
  125. >What time was it now?
  126. [| 2:39 |]
  127. >Well, shit.
  128. >You`d still get enough sleep though.
  129. >You zoned out while mulling over tonight`s events.
  130. >And you were asleep.
  131.
  132. >Ding, ding, ding, ding.
  133. >You slapped the alarm clock.
  134. >It shut off.
  135. >It`s seven `o clock.
  136. >Why were you getting up this- right, morning shift.
  137. >You were a bit tired, but you`d be okay.
  138. >You looked out the window, gazing out to the sun slowly rising above the trees in the distance.
  139. >The weather was clear today, blue and not a cloud in the sky.
  140. >Perfect.
  141. >You got dressed up for your shift.
  142.
  143. >Clean, dressed, equipped.
  144. >You headed downstairs.
  145. >Right, you left your pistol in the living room.
  146. >You`d need that.
  147. >Walking into the room, you stopped when you noticed the bundled up blanket on the couch.
  148. >You recalled the events of last night.
  149. >A smile came across your face.
  150.
  151. "Hey Jennette."
  152. >She awoke with a snort and a yell.
  153. >"Holy fu- oh... Good morning."
  154. >She yawned, then curled back up.
  155. >"You`re going to work, right?"
  156.
  157. "Yeah. I`ll be back later."
  158. >She turned back around to look at you.
  159. >"Can I get a specific time? I want to know in case... something happens."
  160. >She said the last bit quietly.
  161. >Like she was afraid if it would reach that point.
  162.
  163. "There isn`t really an exact time I`ll be back. You know how to work a phone, right?"
  164. >"Of course."
  165.
  166. "I`ll keep you updated with the home phone. Just stay here. And there`s food in the fridge."
  167. >She looked at the phone, then towards the kitchen, then back at you.
  168. >"O-okay. I got it."
  169. >She sat up into a crosslegged position with her tail curled around her.
  170.
  171. "I sure hope so. See you later."
  172. >She smiled at you and gave you a wave.
  173. >"Bye."
  174.
  175. >She was nice enough, though she would probably scare the shit out of regular people.
  176. >She is a monster, by denotation.
  177.
  178. >You... are not a regular person though.
  179. >You looked down at the pistol in your hand.
  180.
  181. >You are a monster, by connotation.
