- There is a beauty in the rose,
- And all the flora fair
- But every wise Nihilist knows
- 'Tis wasted time to stare
- At lovely things ephemeral,
- At beauty bound to fade;
- Be they flowers or emeralds,
- Their lustre's soon mislaid.
