  1. Hello, my name is Kyle_L . How may I help you?
  2. Chris Rogers: Hi there, i recently purchased a Lexar Jumpdrive M10 Secure and the speeds i'm getting on it aren't as advertised, it jumps up for a few seconds and then it dips down to 0 any suggestions?
  3. Kyle_L : Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your M10 JumpDrive, let me take a quick look into that issue and see what we can do to resolve it for you.
  4. Kyle_L : What is happening when the speed varies in this way?
  5. Chris Rogers: ok, just as an aside, i'm a computer technician myself, i have the drive plugged into a usb 3.0 port and all my drivers are up to date.
  6. Chris Rogers: i'm copying files to the drive when it happens
  7. Chris Rogers: http://puu.sh/6X2v6.png here's a screenshot of my current transfer
  8. Kyle_L : Ah, thank you for that
  9. Kyle_L : Have you formatted the JumpDrive since you purchased it?
  10. Chris Rogers: no
  11. Chris Rogers: i would format it into eXfat but not all the computer i'd be using it on would support it
  12. Kyle_L : What is the storage size of the M10 that you have?
  13. Chris Rogers: 128 GB, i went all out
  14. Chris Rogers: i tried looking for a firmware update on your website, but i couldn't find anything
  15. Kyle_L : It should be up to date in regards to firmware. As far as formatting, you can format it in NTFS, but that may not be writable for Macs, if you have any.
  16. Chris Rogers: i don't intend of using it on any macs so i will try that real quick, after i finish deleting the files currently on the drive
  17. Chris Rogers: which is also very sporatic
  18. Kyle_L : Okay, certainly. When you do begin formatting into NTFS, be sure the 'Quick Format' option is unchecked, as that can cause problems later.
  19. Chris Rogers: of course
  20. Chris Rogers: Initiating full format
  21. Kyle_L : Excellent, let me know when it has completed.
  22. Chris Rogers: ok, if the speeds remain true to advertised then it should be finished in a minute or so
  23. Chris Rogers: aparently windows xp got an update to support the eXFAT file system, so i may end up formatting it in that after all.
  24. Kyle_L : Okay, that should be fine as well.
  25. Chris Rogers: i'll hold off on that until i test it using NTFS
  26. Chris Rogers: no point in cancelling what I've already started.
  27. Kyle_L : Certainly.
  28. Chris Rogers: halfway done
  29. Chris Rogers: the speed is great in regards to formatting, i have a 64GB Sandisk Cruzer Blade that took all night to format so this is a welcome surprise
  30. Chris Rogers: format complete
  31. Kyle_L : Great, let's try moving the files now and check for a change in speed.
  32. Chris Rogers: same issue, unfortunately
  33. Chris Rogers: deleting was definitely faster
  34. Kyle_L : Okay. At this point, it definitely seems we are having some problems with the speed on this M10, so we can set up an RMA for you to replace this JumpDrive.
  35. Chris Rogers: can i do that on my own once i've exhausted all my ideas for fixing the issue?
  36. Chris Rogers: i'm still not ruling out the possibility that it's my USB 3.0 ports, i want to try it on a different computer before i can rule that possibility out.
  37. Chris Rogers: and unfortunately i don't currently have access to another computer with USB 3.0
  38. Kyle_L : We can certainly do that at a later point, it is entirely possible that there may be an issue with the ports.
  39. Kyle_L : To set up an RMA in the future if it has the same issue on another computer, you can just open up a fresh chat and summarize what we've done thus far.
  40. Chris Rogers: ok, i'll copy this chat so if this does happen on another computer i can just give the other person a link to it so they can read what we've done so far
  41. Kyle_L : That would work fine. Is there anything else I can help you with right now?
  42. Chris Rogers: no, i appreciate the help you have given me, i've got some new ideas i can try to see if i can make it work
