  1. Modding sucks because you're doing a volunteer job without pay where you spend excess amounts of your free time dealing with people who do not appreciate you and tend to be some of the worst clientele. That's the short version.

  3. Modding on epicmafia.com is not done right. This isn't a fault of vancyon or even lucidrains. This is almost 100% a dual burden between mods and users. Mods are treated and self-segregate themselves as nonusers of epicmafia.com while users consistently try to make mods feel as though they are under constant scrutiny and that they must be reminded of the fact that they are a mod and thus different. Epicmafia basically completely separates what it means to be a user and what it means to be a mod to the point where they're understood to be mutually exclusive, and this is possibly the worst way that modding can be viewed.

  5. Am I saying that users have to get down on their hands and knees and thank mods every time they do a marginally correct action/decision? No, that'd be stupid. What I AM saying is that mods are shown minimal gratitude at most. I can unironically say that one of the few users that appreciated me, among other names, was pranay7744. More often, mods are heavily ridiculed even when making the right decision and often there are arbitrary forum witch hunts every few weeks over whichever mod had done something significant that week. It creates a very "us against them" mentality for both sides, and it's almost entirely why I am quitting and cannot fucking stand epicmafia.com anymore.

  7. I got burnt out on em because mafia stopped being fun and the userbase is just insufferable. It became that I was dedicating a large portion of my free time to modding for users I don't like, for users who don't like me, and for a site I don't enjoy being a major presence on. I don't feel part of the community and really only like a handful of users that I can talk to on skype without having to be on this site. "But you signed up to be a mod, this is what you should expect". No, this is the wrong idea and you're wrong. Modding should never be about dealing with adults that act like children and do nothing short of try to make your position as miserable as possible. Maybe that's what it has realistically become, but that's a product of the skewed version of modding that EM has.

  9. Forum mods on other sites either typically mod for a short amount of time or mod for a very long amount. This is because forum mods are never isolated from the community. They are still voices and are not perceived as representations of the site government, which is the opposite on this site. It's really nothing short of baffling how you all can be so incredibly dismissive of mods and unappreciative, then act surprised when they quit en masse like they have been the past few months. Modding on epicmafia.com means you are removed from the community userbase and must proceed to serve that userbase on your own spare time and do so for free. This is a volunteer position, I should not have to deal with users who do not understand the variety of things that I have done and provided for the mod team constantly asking for my head. Again, you can say "this is what's expected", but it's not. This is not what moderation is on other websites and it shouldn't be like this on epicmafia.com.

  11. As it is now, I can't forsee any mod staying longer than half a year with the current userbase. I commend ucklar for being a mod for as long as he has, although he's debatably inactive at times. I liked epicmafia.com. I joined the mod team because I felt that I could contribute in a positive way towards the site in a way that the mod team needed. I have mostly met that goal and I'm now burnt out on epicmafia.com. I'm tired of the site. I'm tired of the users. I don't enjoy mafia. I'm leaving. If you think I was a bad mod, you have no understanding of what I did for this site and how much I gave to it.
