  13. Dragged his own mother to court because he claims that:
  14.
  15. "Mr Tydeman had experienced, in the past, with any solicitor that gave
  16. rise to him finding solicitors, in the circumstances of the current
  17. case, "untrustworthy", leading it, and him, to the conclusion that a
  18. solicitor should not be retained on behalf of Tanamerah."

  22. At the hearing of the notices of motion, at Mr Tydeman's request, and
  23. without objection from counsel for Tibra, I permitted his mother,
  24. Catherine Tydeman ("Ms Tydeman"), who is also a director of Tanamerah,
  25. to sit with him at the bar table and act as a "McKenzie friend" (see,
  26. McKenzie v McKenzie [1971] P 33). Thereafter, she sat at the bar
  27. table, with Mr Tydeman, taking notes, quietly making suggestions to
  28. him, guiding him, generally, in relation to the conduct of the
  29. proceedings and providing other assistance. She did not seek to
  30. address the court, or otherwise take an active part in the
  31. proceedings. (There was no suggestion that she was qualified as a
  32. solicitor.)
