Nevada Redux: S01 E04 - Proper Schooling

[8/13/2013 8:13:51 PM] DBN: As Kara pulls the SUV to a stop you get your first good look at the City 51 Education Center. Sounds like a prison, looks like one too and no doubt many students felt it was one. The building looks solid, made of stone and brick with tall, narrow windows and sturdy doors. The entire facility is surrounded by a fence of brick and iron posts, though there looks to be a lot of open land as well. Sports fields take up a lot of space of course, as well as a track and field area, with plenty of room left over for students to lounge in the grass and eat lunches or sit around the fountain at the center of the pathway. At least everyone else is stuck in the same uniforms.
[8/13/2013 8:16:59 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina picks at her uniform sighing. "Well, this place looks more dreary than the barracks at the base.."
[8/13/2013 8:17:25 PM] MR RAGE: "It won't be so bad." Sep optimistic as always.
[8/13/2013 8:18:48 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth shrugs and keeps her page while briefly looking around the school.
[8/13/2013 8:19:16 PM] Kara: Kara nods a little, hands on the wheel. "It won't be as bad as it looks. It's got running room." She glances out the window at thebuilding, frowning a little.
[8/13/2013 8:20:22 PM] Sabrina: "Meh.." Sabrina grabs her things and gets out of the SUV.
[8/13/2013 8:21:39 PM] Kara: Kara sighs a little, off-hand going into her pocket. She checks the silver watch around her slender wrist quickly, "Now, now, smile and be cheerful," Kara comments with lacklustre performance.
[8/13/2013 8:22:07 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth follows suit, closing the book and using her schedule as a bookmark. "Sure."
[8/13/2013 8:25:44 PM] DBN: At least it's a nice day in City 51. It's warm and the Sun is shining, only shadows of the Lunar Debris Field visable in the sky. Kids are laughing, joking, roughhousing or lounging around the property. More then a few turn their eyes to the new students, the whispers already starting. That OPUS symbol on the side of the SUV is hard to miss.

[8/13/2013 8:28:52 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina returns soem looks with a glare that showed how much she would punch in their faces if they talked about her.
[8/13/2013 8:29:26 PM] DBN: That gets them to look away at least. Well done.
[8/13/2013 8:32:15 PM] MR RAGE: "Come on, Sabrina, we aren't here to make enemies." Sep tries to share as many apologetic looks. "Thank you, Kara."
[8/13/2013 8:35:07 PM] Kara: Kara nods a little, soft rings under her eyes showing ever so slightly, "You're welcome, Septimius. Have a good day, kids. I need to go now."
[8/13/2013 8:37:08 PM] DBN: Though some twist of fate, or more likely OPUS's doing, you all share but one class together including a Special P.E. class just becfore lunch. Each schedule also includes locker numbers, lock combinations and a disclaimer warning against informing other students of your piloting status.
[8/13/2013 8:37:52 PM] Elizabeth: "Special P.E.?" She frowns.
[8/13/2013 8:38:12 PM] MR RAGE: "Hrrrm."
[8/13/2013 8:39:19 PM] Sabrina: "Joy.. running around in another stupid uniform.."
[8/13/2013 8:39:47 PM] Kara: Kara waves and pulls out, turning on music as she drives away, cutting it off with the rolling windows.
[8/13/2013 8:41:08 PM] DBN: "Running in a uniform isn't so bad." A new voice, panting as it addresses not just Sabrina but the group in total. A girl judging by the uniform, with bike shorts under the skirt and sneakers instead of loafers. She has brown skin with freckles and darker hair, smiling at the lot of them easily enough. "You have nice legs, want to join the track team?"
[8/13/2013 8:42:32 PM] Sabrina: "I wouldn't wan to embaress everyone already on it by running circles around the,." She mocks dryly.
[8/13/2013 8:43:25 PM] DBN: "With all that other dead weight on you? You wish." Her smile changed, a little sharper.
[8/13/2013 8:43:44 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth hides a small grin, a little more interested in the conversation now.
[8/13/2013 8:43:45 PM] MR RAGE: Sep blinks, folding his arms, studying the girl passively.
[8/13/2013 8:45:22 PM] Sabrina: "Sorry I got boobs in puberty and you didn't." She shrugs.
[8/13/2013 8:46:45 PM] DBN: "I've seen cows with less udder." Before she can continue the bell rings. "Ah, come by the track later and we can continue this." A wink and she was sprinting into the school, someone yelling after her not to run in the halls.
[8/13/2013 8:47:52 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina snorts.
[8/13/2013 8:49:10 PM] Elizabeth: "Stupid bell..." Elizabeth looks at her schedule. "Math. Oh boy." She starts to head towards the classroom.
[8/13/2013 8:49:38 PM] MR RAGE: Sep follows suit!
[8/13/2013 8:50:10 PM] Sabrina: "You mean nap time?" Sabrina brings up the rear, keeping a bit of distance from the other two.
[8/13/2013 8:50:39 PM] Elizabeth: "Depends on the math, I guess. You have to at least do well enough to not fail."
[8/13/2013 8:52:48 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina wonders about emailing her homework back to the base for completion...
[8/13/2013 9:01:34 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina takes a seat in the back corne, if she can.
[8/13/2013 9:03:00 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth takes an open seat a few rows from the back.
[8/13/2013 9:04:21 PM] MR RAGE: Sep just smiles, picking a spot closer to the front.
[8/13/2013 9:06:34 PM] DBN: Class no doubt drags on for most of the students, eating away at their willpower until released to the mercy of the hallway.
[8/13/2013 9:08:25 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina was asleep a third of the way through.
[8/13/2013 9:09:15 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth started out well but her notes slowly deteriorated into doodles that now spanned most of the page.
[8/13/2013 9:10:48 PM] DBN: Next class is History! Better not loiter in the halls...
[8/13/2013 9:13:56 PM] Mr. Burnside: Indeed, for outside the classroom is an aging man, with an obnoxious plaid shirt and khakis. He's got semi-tanned skin that's lined with wrinkles and shoulder-length graying blonde hair pulled into a low ponytail, with wide-rimmed glasses and thick lenses. He's tapping his foot slowly, a serene look in his eyes, a fat, oversized book in one hand with a clipboard on it, and pen in the other. He's guarding the door to the history classroom like a lazy statue, greeting the students that come in with a semi-monotone voice.
[8/13/2013 9:14:43 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina files in. She may not find thins at school exciting, but just like the military, she was always prompt.
[8/13/2013 9:15:13 PM] Mr. Burnside: As she tries to pass by, the probably heavyset man steps in front, "Woah, woah, woah, slow down there."
[8/13/2013 9:15:27 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth comes to a sudden halt, almost hitting Sabrina since she was following closely behind.
[8/13/2013 9:15:52 PM] Mr. Burnside: He says this in the voice of an aging dead-head, with a lazy smile, "You're the new students, aren't you?"
[8/13/2013 9:16:22 PM] MR RAGE: "We are, yes."
[8/13/2013 9:16:41 PM] Elizabeth: "Yes.."
[8/13/2013 9:17:53 PM] Sabrina: "No shit Sherlock."
[8/13/2013 9:18:31 PM] Mr. Burnside: "I'm Burnside, kids, your history teacher. You're gonna-" And he pauses, "Woah, woah, woah there, watch the language, man. I bet it's your new music- calm doooown. I don't wanna write anybody up yet."
[8/13/2013 9:19:11 PM] Elizabeth: "...Yet?"
[8/13/2013 9:20:19 PM] Mr. Burnside: Mr. Burnside nods, "If you kids get outta hand, I gotta report you to the big man upstairs." And he points up. "I'm gonna have you introduce yourselves to the rest, alright? No harsh words, this is a mellow place."
[8/13/2013 9:20:37 PM] Sabrina: "...." Fucking hippie.
[8/13/2013 9:20:37 PM] Mr. Burnside: The entire time, even telling Sabrina to watch herself, he sounds like he's... well, blazed.
[8/13/2013 9:23:10 PM] Mr. Burnside: At this, Burnside heads in, "Alright kids, come in and stand at the front." He points to the - a chalkboard? Really? - and looks to the rest of the students, "Write your names up there, we're gonna do this calm." He goes to stand at a podium, setting down his book on the top.
[8/13/2013 9:24:31 PM] MR RAGE: Septimius strides forward, picking up a piece of chalk and writing out his full name in clear cursive, underlining it with a flourish, before turning around to smile at the class.
[8/13/2013 9:25:43 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth sighs and writes her name on the board as well, doing her best to smile, but mostly looking around.
[8/13/2013 9:26:21 PM] Mr. Burnside: Mr. Burnside looks to Sabrina, "Alright, your turn. And no harsh words: writing up the stuff makes my hand hurt." And he has another lazy smile.
[8/13/2013 9:26:33 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina writes her name as well, not really caring too much.
[8/13/2013 9:26:50 PM] Sabrina: "Is that safe enough for your virgin eyes?"
[8/13/2013 9:28:15 PM] Mr. Burnside: Mr. Burnside 's smile drops a little, "Alright then... Soo, Septimius? That's a crazy name: let's hear where you're all from then, huh? Anybody out of state?"
[8/13/2013 9:30:02 PM] Sabrina: "Nope."
[8/13/2013 9:30:13 PM] Elizabeth: "Britain."
[8/13/2013 9:30:40 PM] Mr. Burnside: "You're a downer, kid," Burnside drawls, then smiles, "Oh woah, the UK? They made great music when I was younger."
[8/13/2013 9:31:53 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth smiles a little.
[8/13/2013 9:33:19 PM] Mr. Burnside: Mr. Burnside shrugs, "Alright then kids, find seats and we'll get to it." He opens his book, "We're gonna be covering the American goverment before Skyfall. Different time, different time."
[8/13/2013 9:33:53 PM] MR RAGE: "Ahh." A big grin from Septimius.
[8/13/2013 9:34:32 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth takes a seat closer to the front this time.
[8/13/2013 9:35:34 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina finds any open seat this time.
[8/13/2013 9:36:02 PM] MR RAGE: Sep settles down towards the back, near a window, his eyes fixated on a poster that caught his attention.
[8/13/2013 9:37:55 PM] Mr. Burnside: The room is lined with band posters from the sixties all the way through to the nineties: probably Burnside's music growing up. But there's also posters of the civil rights movement, propaganda from wartime eras with paragraphs explaining them underneath them (just in case). His drawl is... insanely boring. Every so often he goes to write something on the board, usually to demonstrate the flow of power in the government.
[8/13/2013 9:40:48 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth lets her gaze wander, reading bits and pieces of the posters around the room.
[8/13/2013 9:42:03 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina tried to sleep, but that voice just grates on her brain and keeps her awake and annoyed.
[8/13/2013 9:44:16 PM] Mr. Burnside: Mr. Burnside is really into his stuff. Into it enough that he doesn't even realize the time, and the bell rings on him!
[8/13/2013 9:44:47 PM] Mr. Burnside: "Oh woah." He looks to the clock, "Uh, no homework, just read the chapter and take notes kids. You know the drill, man."
[8/13/2013 9:45:16 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina crawls up from her desk sluggishly.
[8/13/2013 9:45:18 PM] DBN: Next is the special P.E. class. Missing Mr. Burnside yet?
[8/13/2013 9:45:45 PM] Mr. Burnside: He goes to stand by the door and say goodbye to every student, seemingly.... not there... as he waves.
[8/13/2013 9:49:33 PM] DBN: Off to the gym! Looks like you're the only ones in this special class, uniforms waiting for you in the locker rooms with your names on them. Sep will have something to gawk at now.
[8/13/2013 9:50:52 PM] Sabrina: "Ffffff...." She let's what she had to say trail off.
[8/13/2013 9:51:19 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth looks over the uniform and sighs, but changes into it nonetheless, though she silently agrees with Sabrina.
[8/13/2013 9:52:09 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina changes as well, used to communal change rooms, she's not that shy about it in front of Elizabeth.
[8/13/2013 9:53:03 PM] Elizabeth: Although she does wish she wasn't quite so flat, especially when comparing herself with Sabrina.
[8/13/2013 9:54:58 PM] MR RAGE: Septimius is...as Sep as ever, sweet-faced and athletic regardless of his clothing, though his face brightens noticeably at the sight of the girls. "Though...why do we get a PE class all to ourselves?"
[8/13/2013 9:56:30 PM] DBN: The gym is set up like one big obstacle course but a lot of the props looks like...buildings?
[8/13/2013 9:57:20 PM] Sabrina: "I can maybe take a guess."
[8/13/2013 9:57:25 PM] Elizabeth: "Well, considering we're the only three...Wouldn't it be safe to say they singled us out because we're -" she stops, looking at the props.
[8/13/2013 9:59:05 PM] MR RAGE: "...oh."
[8/13/2013 9:59:29 PM] DBN: A figure appears atop one of the 'buildings' wearing a uniform like the rest of you. It's...Karinka. Who let her into a school? She must drive the metal detectors crazy. "Exactly. No one else in this school needs to be trained in killing Invaders."
[8/13/2013 10:02:19 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina resists her urge to talk back.
[8/13/2013 10:02:38 PM] Elizabeth: "How do you train without an EVA?"
[8/13/2013 10:03:19 PM] MR RAGE: "Since it's our brains, not our hands... It's about learning, right?"
[8/13/2013 10:05:27 PM] DBN: "That's right." She dropped down to the floor. "Mobility inside the city will be a key element against Invaders that make it inside City 51. So to start with...you're all running the obstacle course. But watch out...you never know when in Invader will strike." She backs up slowly and disappears into the obstacle course.
[8/13/2013 10:07:38 PM] Sabrina: "Alright, let's get this over with." She takes lead heading into the course at a jog.
[8/13/2013 10:08:44 PM] Elizabeth: "..Might as well.." she follows at a decent pace.
[8/13/2013 10:10:06 PM] DBN: It's easy going at first, jumping over smaller buildings and squeezing between buildings that are close together. Nothing too bad. How's Sep doing?
[8/13/2013 10:11:03 PM] MR RAGE: Hup-hup-hup. He isn't as well-trained as a proper athlete, but he's got enough going for him not to trundle, and looks good doing it.
[8/13/2013 10:12:11 PM] DBN: The first real obstacle is a ball pit filled with blue balls. Water hazard?
[8/13/2013 10:12:49 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina jumps in, no hesitation.
[8/13/2013 10:13:18 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth stops for a brief moment, but seeing Sabrina jump in she does the same.
[8/13/2013 10:13:49 PM] MR RAGE: Sep stops at the 'bank,' sizing up the pit.
[8/13/2013 10:14:23 PM] DBN: Deep enough to hide something...
[8/13/2013 10:14:58 PM] DBN: Elizabeth! Something grabs your leg and works to pull you under.
[8/13/2013 10:15:27 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth bites back a small yelp and tries to kick. It's just a test...just a test...
[8/13/2013 10:15:56 PM] DBN: It has both legs now! With a swift yank Elizabeth is lost beneath the waves.

[8/13/2013 10:16:25 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina stops and turns to look where Elixabeth was.
[8/13/2013 10:16:33 PM] MR RAGE: Sep's in the 'water' now, grabbing for her.
[8/13/2013 10:17:31 PM] DBN: Gone. No more Elizabeth.
[8/13/2013 10:19:01 PM] MR RAGE: "I lost her!" He reports to Sabrina, crossing the 'hazard' to meet up with the tougher pilot.
[8/13/2013 10:19:40 PM] Sabrina: "Look for her or continue on?" She asks.
[8/13/2013 10:24:08 PM] Sabrina: Not getting an answer she starts to move back towards the center of the ball pit.
[8/13/2013 10:25:00 PM] DBN: "The Unit is lost and an effort will be made to reclaim it after the battle." Karinka's voice comes from somewhere in the course.
[8/13/2013 10:25:57 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina shrugs. "That answers that." She gets back on track and running through the course.
[8/13/2013 10:26:13 PM] MR RAGE: "Mrgh...y-yes, ma'am." The boy emerges from the pit after Sabrina, following close behind.
[8/13/2013 10:27:20 PM] DBN: More of those normal obstacles before a new hazard. Looks like something came this way and left a path of destruction in its wake already.
[8/13/2013 10:29:17 PM] Sabrina: "Hm."
[8/13/2013 10:30:02 PM] MR RAGE: "An Invader attack?"
[8/13/2013 10:30:53 PM] Sabrina: "Likely the trail of one." She presses up against the side of a building and peeks around the corner.
[8/13/2013 10:33:12 PM] DBN: There's Karinka, kicking down a building and looking like she's having fun.
[8/13/2013 10:34:02 PM] MR RAGE: "Ah!" Sep steps closer, unsure how to imaginarily arm himself, but keeping within the trail of devastation.
[8/13/2013 10:35:15 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina leaves Sep to confront Karinka head on, keeping low while slipping around the buildings to flank her.
[8/13/2013 10:36:09 PM] DBN: "Evangelions aren't stealthy you know. They were never made to be." She grins to herself.
[8/13/2013 10:38:34 PM] Sabrina: "But they are made to dish out pain!" Sabrina raises up, tearing a building up from the ground and swinging it full force at Karinka.
[8/13/2013 10:38:45 PM] MR RAGE: "Geez!"
[8/13/2013 10:40:00 PM] DBN: She takes the building to the torso, hardly flinching. "Willful destruction of property is frowned upon by OPUS."
[8/13/2013 10:41:04 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina sighs. Well, that was fun for a minute.
[8/13/2013 10:41:37 PM] MR RAGE: "Ah! Sabrina, what were you thinking?"
[8/13/2013 10:42:08 PM] Sabrina: "Improvised weapon.."
[8/13/2013 10:42:26 PM] DBN: "Using one of these, though..." She tosses something at Sabrina. A sheathed knife!
[8/13/2013 10:42:51 PM] Sabrina: "Shiney!" She catches it with glee.
[8/13/2013 10:44:12 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina unsheathes it, eyes wide.
[8/13/2013 10:45:23 PM] DBN: "Well?"
[8/13/2013 10:45:45 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina looks up at Karinka. She wasn't serious, was she?
[8/13/2013 10:46:00 PM] MR RAGE: "B-be careful..."
[8/13/2013 10:47:22 PM] Sabrina: "Alright.." She relaxes her shoulders, taking a fighting stance she remembered Bertha taught her.
[8/13/2013 10:48:28 PM] DBN: "Thought so..." she commented aloud, mirroring the stance.
[8/13/2013 10:49:40 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina moves forward, a quick feint to test her opponent's reflexes.
[8/13/2013 10:51:51 PM] DBN: She doesn't even react, waiting. "A big blonde woman taught you, didn't she?"
[8/13/2013 10:52:53 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina blinks.
[8/13/2013 10:53:45 PM] DBN: Karinka strikes, pulling back in the end just enough that her fist taps Sabrina's abs.
[8/13/2013 10:54:42 PM] Sabrina: "Hey!" Well, now she's just insulted and agrivated. She jumps forward with a superman style punch towards Karinkaa's face.
[8/13/2013 10:55:39 PM] DBN: She gets a hand on Sabrina's wrist and turns, pushing her into one of the fake buildings. "Having fun watching Septimus? You've lost a pilot and are about to lose another."
[8/13/2013 10:58:06 PM] Sabrina: "Hrrn." She kicks backwards at Karinka's knees.
[8/13/2013 10:58:54 PM] MR RAGE: "!" Sep closes in, coming at Karinka from the flank. Did Sabrina drop the knife?
[8/13/2013 10:58:58 PM] DBN: She kneels, turning to grab Sabrina's ankle before standing and dragging her back out of the wreckage.
[8/13/2013 11:00:10 PM] Sabrina: That knife is still clenched in her hand as she curses the woman's iron grip. She goes so far as to actually throw the knife at Karinka as she is dragged.
[8/13/2013 11:00:50 PM] DBN: "That's no toy, be careful."
[8/13/2013 11:01:59 PM] DBN: "You know...according to our scientists there is a chance more than one Invader could appear at a time."
[8/13/2013 11:02:41 PM] MR RAGE: "Ah?" Sep snatches up the knife after it's thrown, aiming for Karinka's side. --not lethally of course, but with Sabrina occupying both her hands and attention...
[8/13/2013 11:03:13 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth comes up behind Sep and attempts to push him out of the way.
[8/13/2013 11:04:02 PM] MR RAGE: "Wah!" Between the reflex not to hurt a copilot and being shoved, Sep can't do a whole lot to resist, managing to land properly on the ground, knife ready for Elizabeth.
[8/13/2013 11:06:11 PM] Sabrina: "Oh come on, I get the Iron Lady and you get a midget. Fight back!"
[8/13/2013 11:06:46 PM] Elizabeth: "I am NOT!"
[8/13/2013 11:07:05 PM] MR RAGE: "Okay, just hold out!" Elizabeth, Sep's going for your stomach with a shoulder!
[8/13/2013 11:08:00 PM] Elizabeth: She manages to take a step slightly to the right, but still gets hit, irritated with Sabrina.
[8/13/2013 11:08:46 PM] MR RAGE: Pomf! "Sorry!" Arms wrapped around Elizabeth's legs, he pulls from behind. Seems the boy's trained in how to put girls on their backs.
[8/13/2013 11:09:45 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina is still struggling, kicking with her free leg and spinning to try and get out of Karinka's grip.

[8/13/2013 11:10:30 PM] DBN: She lets Sabrina go with a grin. "Still gotta finish the course you know."
[8/13/2013 11:11:45 PM] MR RAGE: "--right!" A gentle pat on Elizabeth's head, and an 'I'll make it up to you later' smile, and he bolts off to help Sabrina up.
[8/13/2013 11:12:31 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth frowns. "Hrmph."
[8/13/2013 11:12:33 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina gets up without the offered help, scowling and heads off ahead of him.
[8/13/2013 11:13:28 PM] MR RAGE: Sep follows behind, knife held tight.
[8/13/2013 11:15:00 PM] DBN: As they run off Karinka looks to Lizzie. "I'll be teaching you some basics about fighting over the next week."
[8/13/2013 11:16:06 PM] Elizabeth: "Alright... Can I learn to throw him? Is that possible?"
[8/13/2013 11:18:30 PM] DBN: "Sure, throws. We can do that."
[8/13/2013 11:19:41 PM] DBN: As they finally cross the finish line of the course they're rewarded with...! Oh, wait, it's nothing. Just the end. "Good job, but you were a little slow!" Karinka calls out.
[8/13/2013 11:20:32 PM] MR RAGE: "Ha...ha...sorry, Sabrina, I'm the reason we were slow."
[8/13/2013 11:21:21 PM] Sabrina: "Mmf."
[8/13/2013 11:24:16 PM] MR RAGE: Sep looks up, unsure if that was an acceptance of apology or not.
[8/13/2013 11:24:57 PM] Sabrina: She doesn't look very accepting.
[8/13/2013 11:25:15 PM] MR RAGE: Ah well... Worth a try. He rubs at his head, turning to look back at Elizabeth.
[8/13/2013 11:25:42 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth just looks frustrated. With herself or someone else is hard to say.
[8/13/2013 11:26:54 PM] DBN: "Okay children, gather up on me."
[8/13/2013 11:27:05 PM] MR RAGE: "Yes'm!"
[8/13/2013 11:27:36 PM] Sabrina: Sabrina trots over sullen.
[8/13/2013 11:27:46 PM] Elizabeth: Elizabeth moves a bit closer, waiting for the other two.
