- Amari knew this would be difficult. But what other choice did she have? There wasn't anything in the lab worth selling for more than scrap, and not paying the electric bill is signing her own death sentence. Or not signing it. But why would you sign your own-
- She shook her head. She was distracting herself again. She needed to focus, and make sure everything was planned out perfectly. If she messed up here, she'd be in even more trouble down the line. This city was brutal, even to the ones at the top, and she wasn't exactly living the nice life even in the best of times.
- First, while she could still move around easily, she made sure all the windows were locked tightly. She couldn't remember the last time she'd opened them, but it was better to make sure while she could. The worst thing that could happen was someone breaking in, take her apart, sell her, and squat in her home until the debt collectors came to she where she was. The door automatically locked whenever it closed, and it was much too heavy for someone to break it down, so she didn't give it a second glance.
- Next was making sure her work was set up for the next month. There was no way she'd be able to go out and buy anything more, so it was vitally important she have inventory in shape now. There wasn't much left, so listing it all wouldn't take more than an hour. Although, it was still midday. If she ran, she could could pick up a few more things. But she quickly dismissed that idea. That would just be running away again, and she was in this situation for exactly that reason. So she took out her notebook, and wrote down where everything was. Quite a few things were moved down to lower shelves, and a few liquids were switched from large jugs to several smaller containers. A few times, she stopped to write some additional notes about what she found, but stopped herself when she realized she'd stopped working. The most important thing was to make sure everything was organized today, before the mailman came around. If she was even one day late...
- She shuddered, and tried not to think about it. There would be plenty of time for worrying for the next month. Right now, it was time to start the tricky part. She already had the box opened and labeled, sitting next to the door. Sighing as she did so, she sat next to the box, grabbed her upper thigh, twisted it, and pulled. With a muffled 'fwump', it came off, and Amari folded it up at the knee and ankle, and put it in the box. As she took off her other leg, she begain to think about when she first got this pair of legs.
