Write a statement about a contemporary social justice issue that you are interested in. Your statement could consider:
•             Describe the social issue and why you feel passionate about this social issue.

•             Explain why this social issue is important.
•             Explore the factors that contribute to the social issue.
•             Explore the impacts of the social issue on individuals, families, communities and/or society.
•             Explore what can be done to promote social change and reduce human suffering with respect to the social issue (e.g., what changes can be made).




 Child welfare is an issue often neglected or misunderstood because of the seemingly effective government and private sector services that protects children and encourages family stability. Although children’s rights have come a long way children still experience significant discrimination, from both individuals and institutions. I am alarmed that in this day and age we still continue to fail children who are abused and neglected. As someone who is currently in the child welfare field I can say that I have witnessed many cases where children become victims of the system, these victims don’t receive the advocacy they require and their concerns largely go unnoticed.

 It’s not that we haven’t tried to organize a functional child welfare system, but that there is not enough advocacy and activism within it.
Through my work and further education I would like to promote equality for children.
