- Making a Promise
- >Sabrina ever so slowly made her way towards the nurses office.
- >Her limp made it hard for her to walk and the pain in her leg caused her endless discomfort.
- >It was another practice related injury, one that the spirit team had endlessly teased her for.
- >"It's always something with you huh?" They would say, "You literally can't take a single step without hurting yourself!"
- >She knew that behind her back, they snickered and laughed at her misfortune.
- >Of them all, Brittney was the worst, for the captian of the spirit team would always scream at her and place the blame on her for any failed routine.
- >Sabrina would take it all. Apologizing profusely and rapidly to them for being such a klutz.
- >Usually they would ignore her apologies, other times they continued to laugh.
- >The worst times were when everyone would scream at her.
- >Their screams always scared her and with tears in her eyes she would make promises to them.
- >Promises to be more careful.
- >Promises to be a better cheerleader.
- >Promises to not be so worthless.
- >But they ignored her her tears and promises.
- >And when she got hurt, they would ignore her cries for help as well.
- >So now here she was. Limping to the nurses office with out a single person to aid her.
- >And through the whole trip, she would still make the same promises.
- >Eventually, after limping across the school campus, she finally reached the nurses office.
- >Gingerly and shyly, she knocked on the door. Not wishing to just barge in and disturb the Nurse.
- >She would hate to upset her. When ever Sabrina showed up for care the woman would roll her eyes at the sight of her.
- >She would always scold her for getting hurt again. Telling her that she'd really ought to be much more careful.
- >Sabrina would apologize and make the same promises she had to the spirit team.
- >And the nurse would ignore her too. Getting straight to patching her up.
- >To Sabrina, the nurse was like a saint, for she would always help her after belittling her.
- >When she was scolded, Sabrina took care to nod and thank the nurse for it. Always with a genuine smile.
- >But as she knocked and waited, nothing happened.
- >Tentivly, Sabrina again raised a scarred hand and softly knocked on the nurses door.
- >No response.
- >She tried again. Still nothing.
- >She looked into the doors window and through the open blinds.
- >Pitch black.
- >No one was in.
- >Sabrina didn't understand. Why wasn't the nurse in? How would she get patched up?
- >She needed to heal up fast and head back to the gym or Brittney would yell at her for taking so long.
- >Sabrina didn't know what to do. Should she keep looking for the nurse? Head back to the gym?
- >She could already picture Brittney threatening her to hurry up. So she decided to forgo treatment and head back to practice.
- >She turned around to walk back, but her injured leg was too weak and the pain was far more intense now.
- >Her leg gave away and she fell to the floor suddenly. Hitting it face first with a loud smack.
- >And she laid there. Raising her head up a bit to wipe away the tears in her eyes and the blood gushing from her nose.
- >"Worthless." She heard someone whisper.
- >She wasn't surprised to find she had said it herself.
- >After simply laying there on the ground for awhile, Sabrina decided to just call her mother and ask her to pick her up.
- >At least at home she didn't have to worry about disappointing someone.
- >No doubt the spirit team wouldn't even miss her.
- >She tried to lift herself up, but couldn't stand as firery pain shot through her leg.
- >She fell back down, laying prone again and feeling all too terrible about herself.
- >She thought about just laying there. Simply close her eyes and allow the empty void of oblivion to consume her and-
- >"No way that happened."
- >That voice!
- >Down the hall and around the corner. She recognized the sound of two voices in conversation.
- >"It's true! There was litterly candy guts all over the place and it even got in my hair!"
- >Sabrina could hear the voices getting closer now and she scrambled to stand back up.
- >"No!" She panically said to herself, "Not him! Don't let him see me like this!"
- >The voices came closer and Sabrina still couldn't stand.
- >She started to crawl, desperate to get away.
- >But she was far too slow and two new figures rounded the corner.
- >"So afterwards I gnawed off his arms like this, 'naraaaw-Grrrrrnnnnnaaa'." Star Butterfly explained as she bit down on her wand.
- >Her friend, Marco Diaz, laughed at her silly display
- >The two friends walked forward a bit before finally noticing Sabrina on the floor and they came to a dead stop at the sight of her
- >Sabrina quickly wiped away her tears and blood before she turned towards the two.
- >She forced a smile and waved at them.
- >"Ray Crabinaa, Bly ur goo o ka dool?" Star asked, her wand still in her mouth.
- >"Star, wand" Marco informed Star as he made his way towards Sabrina.
- >Star removed her wand from her mouth, "Hey Sabrina, why are you on the floor?" She asked again
- >"Yea really." Marco added, "Did you hurt yourself again?"
- >Before Sabrina could say or do anything, Marco suddenly picked her right back up. The girl seemingly weighed lightly in his grasp.
- >Marco helped Sabrina stand back up and padded the dust and dirt off her uniform.
- >Sabrina was silent, she simply allowed the young man to clean her off as she stared at him with eyes wide in wonderment.
- >Star came up next to Sabrina, curious of her silence.
- >"Yo Sabby my gurl, you doing alright?" She asked
- >Sabrina simply nodded as she continued to stare at Marco.
- >"You sure your ok? Cause if your not I can give you a little kiss to make the pain go away." Star said while holding her wand up.
- >"Oh, by kiss I ment magic. Sorry if that was weird, I don't usually kiss girls. And when I do it's not in the kissy kissy way. Its totally platunic!"
- >"Platonic, Star." Marco corrected,
- >"Yea that. Point is, this Star only kisses in a friendly 'friendship way and not in the wanna suck yo face make out way- Wait! Why are you taking off your clothes'?!?" sorta way-"
- >As Star rumbled on, Marco finished up his examination of Sabrina and flashed her a warm smile.
- >"Alright, do try to be more careful Sabrina. I'd hate to see you hurt yourself again."
- >Sabrina goofily smiled and nodded her head rapidly.
- >"Oh, I will Marco. I'll be extra careful next time I slip. I p-promise!" She quickly said.
- >Marco gave her an even larger smile, one that made the girl feel warm and weak at the knees.
- >"I'll hold you up on that promise, alright?" Marco asked.
- >Sabrina quickly nodded in agreement.
- >Marco turned away from her and grabbed the still rambling Star's hand.
- >He pulled the princess with him as he continued down the hall, walking away from Sabrina.
- >Star finally stopped talking and noticed Marco's hand holding her own.
- >"Oh Marcooo~ Hand holding at school? Sooo bold!" <3 She cooed.
- >"Yea, yea." Marco said as he ignored Star's treasing.
- >Sabrina watched the two leave. Staring longingly at Marco's retreating form.
- >Then her hurt leg finally collapsed and she fell forward again with another loud smack.
- >But this time the girl was able to sit up for the pain in her leg and her face again was hardly felt.
- >Bleeding again at the nose with tears in her eyes, Sabrina looked off in the distance with a dreamy expression, a goofy smile and half-lidded eyes.
- >She felt giddy and happy for once today, and she giggled silently to herself as she wiped her nose.
- >"Oh, I can't let myself get hurt again! I gotta keep my promise to Marco!" She said joyously to herself.
- >The empty hall was filled with the sound of Sabrina's giggles.
- >And not once did she worry about the spirit team or any of the promises she made to them.
- >Not when she just made a 'real' heartfelt promise just now.
