	Marco peddled his bike through town, he could feel Jackie hugging him tight...it felt good. Sure she was probably just doing what he said about holding on but Marco didn't care he could smell her perfume she smelled like perfection mixed with fresh roses. The streets were pretty empty for a Saturday night, but Echo Creek had always been a quite town, even with the occasional interruption by Ludo and his minions. Marco went over a piece of sidewalk that was uprooted from the ground; he was going pretty fast and didn't see it in the dark they bounced up in the air a few feet before landing back down.

"My bad I didn't notice it until it was too late," Marco said apologizing to Jackie.

"Its Ok Marco It happens, I've fallen off my board a bunch of times when I skate over hazards I don't notice...like a large pebble haha" Jackie replied holding on to Marco tighter then before she even rested her head on his back.

Marco smiled the biggest smile he ever had, "Thank you random piece of sidewalk" he mumbled to himself.


It wasn't long before they reached their destination. it was the same Chinese place that Marco had taken Star and got her to believe fortune cookies were real, good god did that backfire in everyway possible. They found a cozy corner booth and the waiter brought them free drinks while they go went through the menu. One of the cooks a woman recognized Marco from their past visit and walked over to him.

"Oh real nice, guess you traded up from that weirdo girl I saw you with last time," the cook said with a chuckle. She looked at Jackie who was staring at Marco with a confused look on her face. "They always go for the blondes" she put down a plate of fortune cookies on the table. "On the house, let us know when you two are ready to order" she added and walked away.

"Traded up?" Jackie asked Marco.

"I've come here before, once with Star maybe she thought we were dating, which is silly," Marco said before gulping down some of his soda.

"Not that silly, I thought so too" Jackie replied, eyes looking down. Marco nearly spat out his drink, he couldn't believe what he just heard.

"Wait are you serious?!" Marco asked sounding worried.

"Well yeah, for a short time I had given up hope on you ever asking me out even now Janna thinks I'm a rebound"

"Janna thinks me and Star were dating too? what the fu-" Marco stopped himself from swearing as he was on a date.

"How many people thought that I and Star...you know what don't answer that I don't want to know," Marco said in disbelief.

Jackie noticed his look of shock, to her it confirmed that everyone was wrong and she was right, Marco really does genuinely like her and he isn't settling for second best. She reached out and put her hand on top of his.

"Hey its ok, me and Janna hang out so much most people think we are lesbians so I know how you are feeling right now" Jackie added with a smile to get the conversation back on track.

Marco looked Jackie right in the eye. "Jackie I swear me and Star are just good friends there has never been anything between us beyond that. Heck she even helped me, man up and finally ask you out that's not something she would not do if we had a history, you are the only girl I have ever dreamt of being with"

"Marco I believe you honest, it did bother me in the past, but that was just jealousy talking" Jackie stopped and gave Marco a sly grin. "What I want to know now is about those dreams you had about me...please don't skip any details"

Marco face turned bright red, and felt like he couldn't breathe for a second.

"You kids ready to order?" Another waiter appeared suddenly and asked.

"Oh thank god, saved by the short Asian man," Marco thought.

"Uhm Yes, I am...uh Jackie?" Marco asked turning to her.

"Sure" Jackie responded.

They placed their orders and the waiter left. Jackie rubbed the bottom of Marco's leg with her foot under the table.

"Don't think your getting out of this that easily Marco, you are still going to tell me about those dreams sooner or later" Jackie whispered leaning forward on the table until she was inches from Marco's face.

Marco gave her a nervous chuckle. "Some other time then, it be no fun if I blew my load too early" Marco's face went pale, "I mean it be no fun if I told you my life story in one night hehe...don't hate me"

Jackie just grinned and poked his nose with her finger. "You are so lucky you're so cute".


 The food came in a short while and it was delicious. Marco and she talked about what they like and dislike anything from food to books. Marco found everything she said fascinating, and to his surprise she a liked a lot of the things he genuinely liked as well. Marco had been afraid that he was going to have to lie to make Jackie like him better, but so far they have been on the same page for the most part. In fact the more they talked the more Marco kicked himself for not asking her out sooner, and who knows maybe Jackie was doing the same thing.

"You play any video games?" Marco asked, if she said no he may have to end the date he joked to himself.

"Not as much as my brother but yes I do, I recently finished Hotline Miami 1 and 2 and I'm currently playing The Evil Within I also liked GTA V but to tell you the truth I mostly drove around listening to the radio stations. Vinewood Boulevard Radio is freaking awesome it introduced me to the band Wavves its like they went inside my head and made a station just for me"

Marco laughed. "I always figured you more of a Non-Stop-Pop-FM listener before tonight."

"Nah, but I do like M83 and backstreet boys who my mom got me into so I'll occasionally switch over"

"I have a lot of consoles and games, most of them are 2 players so if you know if you ever want to come over and-"

"I'd love too," Jackie said answering Marco before he could finish asking.

"Ok cool, I promise I'll go easy on you if we play like Smash Bros" Marco said coyly.

"You assume I don't like it rough?" Jackie asked raising her eyebrow. "Oh my god I am turning into Janna" Jackie mumbled to herself, she'd be more upset if she didn't sort of like flirting with Marco this way.

Marco swiped some sweat from his brow, this girl is full of surprises.

Back at the Diaz house Star tossing a ball to Marco Jr. who would bring it back to her and wait for her to toss it again. It was fun the first 200 times but after a while not even playing fetch with an adorable puppy could stop boredom from sneaking up on her. She tossed the ball again out the open door leading to the hall outside her bedroom and Marco Jr. went off like a missile after it. Normally on Saturday nights she and Marco hang out, either at some interdemensional arcade or binge watching movies on netflix, and it was fun. Star knew the day would come when she would have to entertain herself but she didn't think it would come this soon. Funny thing was long before she even met Marco she would always find ways of having fun by herself not like Ponyhead was around 24/7 and that was after they met and she was already 12 by that point. Hard to believe in just a few months  after arriving on Earth she would find it impossible to have fun by herself, maybe she just needs more friends or maybe she relied more on Marco then she thought. Star laid back on her bed and stared at the ceiling.

"I'm soooo bored!" Star shouted, she wished Marco would hurry up so they could play that Rocket Leauge game they have been playing the last few weeks. Its no fun playing alone even against strangers on that intornets thingy-majig Marco has. A few seconds later Marco's mother appeared holding a laundry basket, Marco Jr was sitting ontop the folded clothes with the ball.

"Hi sweetie your door was open, so I figured I'd bring in the clean clothes" Mrs Diaz said walking over to Stars closet.

Marco jr leapt off the laundry basket and pounced on Star dropping the ball on her face. He barked at her and licked her face expecting another toss. Star just rubbed his head instead.

"Oh I know that face, got nothing to do huh?" Mrs Diaz asked while she put away the clohtes.

"Do you think you and me can do something?" Star sat up on her bed and asked Marco's mother.

"Sure sweetie, want to help me do more laundry?"

Star rolled her eyes and fell back down.

"I'm going to take that as a no"

"Sorry Mrs. D I didn't mean to be rude just was hoping we could go out or something. Star replied.

"Oh well ok sure why not, Want to go to the movies?"

Star considered it but she and Marco have already seen all the good ones in theaters.

"No" Star answered.

"Want to go out for ice cream?"

Marco had already taken her this morning for some, he got her a breakfast sundae...Earth has some great inventions.

"No thanks, already had some earlier"

"We could go to the mall, see if theres something we like...unless you and my son already went and-"

Star just nodded at her.

"Oh right he bought a new hoodie for tonight" Mrs Diaz said to herself.


"Well don't fret I'm sure theres something" mrs Diaz walked over to Star while looking up something on her phone.

"How about this, a free concert in the park tonight, we can buy food and listening to live music till midnight, what do you think?"

Stars ears pirked up, coincidentally so did Marco Jr's.

"That sounds like fun, lets do it" Star said happily.

"Ok I'ts going to be great, in fact all 3 of us will go I'm sure my husband won't mind not watching the rest of Sabado gigante anyways, Diaz family night out"

"I'll bring my camera too we can record the show and us being silly and show it to Marco later even if he says no" Mrs. Diaz said giggling.

Star laughed hugged Mrs. Diaz this was going to be a fun night after all.

"Alright lets get in the car, we don't want to miss our chance for front row seats." added Mrs. Diaz, Star agreed and with that they headed downstairs to get Mr. Diaz and head out.



At the restaurant, Jackie and Marco finished their meal, they each cracked open a fortune cookie for good measure too. Marco read his outloud.

"Things in your life are heating up, watch the flame or you might get burned"

Marco graoned. "this is a fortune?"

Jackie read hers next. "Love is like a video game. Its better with 2 players"

She put the piece of paper down, her eyes got really big and sparkly. "It knows" she whispers.

Both kids laughed. Marco was just happy this fortune wont end with him thrown in a dumpster and locked inside....at least he hopes it doesnt.

Marco asked for the bill, Jackie insisted on splitting but Marco wouldn't have it, he asked her out so he will pay. Jackie agreed but only if at the concert she pays for the snacks, Marco argued with her on that too but realized he only had like 8 bucks left so admitted defeat unless she wanted to share a soda.  They thanked the staff for the food and headed out the door, Marco unlocked his bike from where he chained it to a street light and got on. Jackie climbed on too, this time wrapping her right arm around Marco's chest and other around his waist, she could feel his heart begin to beat really fast.

"Are you ok?" She asked with a slight grin.

"...fine, just fine" Marco muttered in a high pitched tone before his voice returned to normal. "Concert has already started I think so I'm going to go fast, you may want onto hold on tighter then last time..."

"I know what your trying to do Diaz...and I like it" Jackie whispered into his ear, as she hugged him tight.

Marco smiled and peddled onward to the park. When they got there the concert was already in full swing, they knew it was too late for front row seats so they had to settle for seats at the very top of the amphitheater, but they didn't mind the sound quality was great. Jackie had bought some snacks for her and Marco, soda, chips, hot dogs and candy all things needed for a good time, Jackie even noticed they were pretty secluded up in the corner combined with the cover of night..well if Marco were to have a stroke and the only cure is to make out unnoticed then just call her Dr. Jackie M.D.

"I actually haven't been here before" said Marco knocking Jackie out of her fantasy. The amphitheater was quite new, even had a huge screen over the stage, for people way out back to have a good look at the stage they even had camera guys up on balconies recording the action on said screen

"Yeah, me neither I hope these concerts take off I'd love to come here each weekend and just enjoy the music" Jacke replied.

"If people keep buying snacks at these prices then they will" Marco said jokingly. "I'll pay you back for the snacks I promise"

Jackie just looked annoyed and gave him a playful shove. "If you want to pay me back...I have other things you can do for me" Jackie whsipered as she hugged Marco by the arm, making him blush again.

The music continued, the band was pretty good they mostly did covers of popular songs from the early 2000's and on. Marco and Jackie agreed they were quite versetile covering all sorts of genre's and types of vocals, they even sang along to a few  like Jimmy Eat Worlds the Middle and AFI's Miss Murder. Marco was having a great time and somehow could feel that Jackie was too, its also a good thing he used to play the Guitar Hero games or else he may have never heard most of these songs, born in the wrong generation indeed. Down near the stage Marco's parents and Star were having a fun time of their own, Star had even brought Marco Jr. along, no reason in perticular she just felt like it, neither group was aware of each other.
After a few more songs, the band announced an intermission before the next set, giving people time for a bathroom break or to get more food.

"Hey you hungry? I can get us more snacks" Jackie asked.

"Oh I'm good, thanks though."

They went back to staring at the stage, they had gotten pretty quiet but Marco figured it was because they were enjoying the music, at least he hoped it was just that.

"Hey Jackie...are you having a good time?" Marco asked.

"Yes I am Marco honest" Jackie bit her lower lip, "Are you?" she added.

"Absolutely, I'm exactly where I want to be with who I want to be" Marco answered truthfully.

"Stop your making me blush again" Jackie said gently poking him in the shoulder.

Marco smiled, tonight was going good...but he wanted to make it great. A girl like jackie deserves the best. Then in a flash Marco got an idea...it was insane and way out of his comfort zone but somehow he just knew go big or go home. Marco nervously excused himself saying he has to go use the restroom, Jackie nodded and let him pass.

"Try not to take too long though the show may start up again any minute" Jackie shouted as Marco bolted out of the amphitheater.

Marco ran around the sides of the theater, pushing through crowds out getting more food and actually using the restrooms. Eventually Marco found what he was looking for, a door that was labeled backstage entrance. Marco knocked on the door as hard as he could, and dove behind a bush next to the wall of the theater. A security guard opened the door and looked around but saw no one, he headed back inside and as the door closed behind him Marco held it open with bis foot just before it closed and locked. He peered in through the crack until he saw the securirty guard make a left and head back outside towards the stage. Marco nervously walked around the hall, there were several doors until he finally found on at the end marked as a dressing room, Marco knocked and hoped for the best. A tall guy who sort of resembled Macklemore opened the door Marco recognized him as the lead singer.

"Uhm Hi, my name is Marco Diaz and I was hoping you could do me a favor"

"hey guys we got an actual fan outside, told ya it was a good idea to take the gig" the singer shouted into the dressing room opening the door the whole way.

"Aww was kinda hoping it be a hot girl" the guy Marco recognized as the drummer said, I told the security guy to find us groupies.

"Ignore him, how many autographs do you want?" the lead singer asked Marco.

"Uhm two, but to tell you the absolute truth I'm not here for autographs Im not even suppose to be here I sort of snuck in"

The band looked at each other, some were confused others impressed, must be one hell of a favor this kid wants they all thought.

"So what do you want?" the girl bassist asked.

"I'm here on my first date with this girl I really , really like for years actually and I was hoping that maybe..."

"Say no more kid, you want to request a song for your lady friend right?" the lead singer asked.

'YES!...if its not too much trouble" Marco said trying to sound professional.

"We were young once too and its not like our original songs are getting much fan fare, what say you guys?" the lead singer turned from the door to look at the band.

There was some mumbling but ultimetely eveeryone agreed. "We got your back kid, anything inperticular or?" the bassist asked.

Marco pulled out a small notepad from his pocket and a pen and scribbled some words on it. Marco had brought it along to take notes of things jackie says so he can remmber them. In this case he wrote down a list of jackie's favorite bands she listed earlier and handed them to the singer.

"Anything from any of those bands, thats sort of romantic?" marco asked sheepishly. "or least says "hey I like you and i'm here for you."

The band gathered around to see the notepad, they said nothing for a short while.

"I think there's one that we know how to play that fits your criteria...we've never even heard of some of these other groups  guys like  Lemon Demon and Creature Feature" The drummer told Marco.

"So, Marco Diaz was it? Whats her name?" the lead singer asked.

"Jackie Lynn Thomas and she's the coolest, most awesome and prettiest girl I know" Marco said smiling.

Some of the band members laughed, the girl just went 'aww".

"Go enjoy the show, we can handle the rest" The singer told Marco.

"Thanks again guys, I'll be sure to give you a like on Facebook" Marco said befre running back out the way he came.

He rejoined, Jackie who was begenning to wonder where he had gotten too.

"Long line at the urinal" Marco said with a shrug, Jackie just nodded. A few minutes later the band re-apeared on stage and crowd cheered. What Marco had just done finally began to sink in and he got nervous, amazing what may sound like a terrific idea one second and like the biggest mistake of you're life the next.

"Jackie remember when you said there are other ways I can pay you back well Uh"

"Marco I was joking, you being here with me is all the payment I need" jackie responded.

"Uh well if I already payed in full then I should warn you I leave big tips" Marco said nervously.

"Is that like euphisms for something? because i'm ok with it I just want to know first" jackie replied.

"haha no its not what you think its..." but Marco was caught off by a voice on the speaker.

"Hello Echo Creek, you all having a good time?" the lead singer asked the crowd. To which the crowd responded by cheering.

"Ok good our next song is special as it was requested by a fan" the singer said.

Jackie went "oooh" and glued her eyes to the stage.

Down in the front row, The Diaz and Star were also intrigued.

"I didn't even know they took requests  at these sort of things" Mr Diaz said to his wife.

"A cool guy who snuck his way back stage just to ask us to sing a song from one of his hope to be girlfriend's favorite bands" the singer added.

The crowd whistled others "d'aww'd" Star was smiling from to ear this is so sweet and romantic she thought.

"You're going to record this right Mrs. Diaz?" she asked.

"Oh right" Mrs. Diaz took out her camera phone and hit record.

"Wow can you believe a guy snuck in backstage?" Jackie asked Marco. "I only thought that happens in movies"

"I bet the guy really wanted to make this night memorable for them" Marco replied trying to stay calm.

"I guess so, might be a last ditch effort tho, they must not be having a good time at least not a good time as us" Jackie said giving Marco a thumbs up.

"Or maybe they are and he just wanted to make it super extra special" Marco countered.

"Yeah that too, I hang out with janna too much I'm becoming too cynical, gotta fix that" Jacke said a giggle.

The band finished makin g some adjustments to their instruments and the singer returned to the mic. Showtime Marco thought and he braced himself for the best...or worst.

"Ok then, lets get the show going" the singer announced, and the crowf cheered.

"This song goes out to and I quote the coolest, most awesome and prettiest girl I know...Jackie Lynn Thomas from the guy who's been in love with you for years and will always be there for you  Marco Diaz"

Jackie's eyes got so big and wide you'd think they were going to pop out of her skull, she turned to look at Marco.

"Surprise" Marco whispered to her. "I just wanted to make this night super special...jackie say something please"

Jackie was still staring at Marco, her jaw on the floor. Down in the first row Marco's parents were in shock they had no idea Marco would even be here. Star just stared at the stage, she was looking pretty pale.

"I need to film everything, it doesnt matter if he can never know we were here" Mrs. Diaz mumbled.

Star was still wide eyed and staring straight ahead, Marco Jr jumped on her shoulders and licked her cheek, but she was completely frozen.

The band started to play their song, it was Drive By by Train.

"Jackie c'mon say something please dont be mad or embarassed" Marco repeated, she was just staring at the stage, Jackie loved this song Marco had done something really sweet and beyond caring for her.

Marco nudged jackie by the shoulder. "Jackie?"

Jackie snapped out of her state of shock, no one had ever gone to so much trouble to say they care about her. NO ONE.

She turned to look at Marco, and in a flash she was ontop of him, kissing Marco fast and furiously. Marco was taken back but for him time slowed down, "Was this really happening?" he thought to himself. The sensation of jackie's lips agianst his said yes this is really happening. Marco wrapped his arms around her back and held her tight as they stuck their tongues down each others throats.

(But now here you are again
So let's skip the "how you been"
And get down to the "more than friends" at last)

As the band played, the bassist noticed the couple making out in the corner she squinted her eyes and realized it was Marco, guess his plan worked after all. She motioned at the guy up manning the camera and pointed at the corner real quick, the guy turned around and saw them and immeditaly knew what was going on. He aimed the camera at them and the jumbo screen got an outline of a big pink heart much like a kiss cam you might see at sporting events. They were in full view of everyone now but neither noticed as they were too busy kissing to notice anything at this point. The crowd cheered and "aww'd as this went down.

"THATS MY BOY" Mr. Diaz exclaimed. "A lady's man if I ever saw one just like his dad."

Marco's mother aimed the camera at the jumbo screen, she was not going to miss any of this. Star and Marco Jr looked up too, Marco Jr. must have recognized Marco because he shot a laser beam into the sky, Star still hadn't said anything she could barely hear the music she was lost in her own  mind, the same phrase repeated over and over.


I thought I was the coolest girl he knew.
