- Nathan scene play-by-plays, from /lisg/
- THE BATHROOM
- Nathan enters stoically, but once he thinks he's alone, quickly begins breathing shallowly and trying to stay calm, talking himself up and leaning his weight against a sink for support. When Chloe enters, he briefly glances in her direction then darts his eyes back down. When Chloe gets in his face, he turns his head slightly away from her. When she brings up his family, his eyes and face dart to the side and away from her, and his voice begins to shudder. As Chloe begins yelling at him, his eyes dart around as he continues staring down into the sink. When she shoves him once, he immediately latches on to the next sink down from Chloe and resumes his exact same position without looking up. When she shoves him again, he pulls out the gun and turns towards her, holding it close to her face and advancing on her until she's backed into a wall.
- He is imposing on as much personal space as he can, but not touching her with his hands nor the gun. His left hand is next to her head, but not in such a way that she's blocked in. After avoiding her eyes the entire scene, he's now the one demanding intense eye contact. He holds the gun low at his hip out of both their views, and leaves it within a range where it could quite easily be taken from him, not even reacting to Chloe holding that hand at bay.
- Chloe Dies
- When Chloe shoves him, he loses his balance and falls backwards, accidentally pulling the trigger while his eyes are closed. Seeing Chloe fall dead, he absently tosses the gun behind him. He shakes her body then turns away, raising his hands to his forehead.
- Max Intervenes
- When Nathan hears the glass of the fire alarm break, he lowers the gun away from Chloe and turns from her, and his focus is completely broken.
- Chloe then knees him right in the balls, right square in the balls, oof. She shoves him to the ground, where Nathan lies stunned for a few moments. After Chloe leaves, he sits up, his foot brushing by Max's photo on the floor and glancing at it as he gets up and leaves.
- THE PARKING LOT
- When Nathan gets in Max’s face, Warren steps forward and Nathan dismissively moves him back and out of the way.
- Throughout the conversation, Nathan is shaking like a leaf, likely from rage, medication, and/or recreational drugs.
- When the situation appears to be escalating, Warren tells him to get away from Max. Nathan does not react at all until Warren taps him on the shoulder, at which point Nathan instantly turns and headbutts Warren. Warren falls to the ground and instinctively tucks up. Nathan steps towards him but does not continue to attack, simply standing over him motionless. Max tells him to leave Warren alone, and again Nathan does not react to her words at all. But when she puts her hands on him, he immediately swings around and grabs her by the neck, advancing on her and pulling her towards him while forcibly yelling into her ear. He switches hands and goes on to hold her by her arm too as she struggles. When she scratches his face, he quickly throws her away by the arm and steps back. He doubles over and cradles his face in both hands while Max and Chloe meet.
- When Nathan advances on the girls, Warren tackles him to the ground but doesn't attempt to harm him. Though taken by surprise, Nathan immediately whips around, pins one of Warren’s hands and punches him in the face. A brief struggle is heard off camera before Nathan is right back up and gearing for Max. He attacks the car once she’s inside, and when they drive off, he paces to the side still watching them intently, completely disregarding Warren who maintains a somewhat defensive posture on the ground behind him, and David who has entered the scene.
- THE BOYS DORMS
- When Nathan enters this scene, he looks more genuinely pleasant than we’ve probably ever seen him, despite us being warned that he’d left campus looking angrier than usual.
- When he sees Max and Chloe, he stops in his tracks and begins shifting broadly in place. His movements from this point on become very loose and primal.
- Chloe immediately backs up, looking fearfully at Max. When Nathan begins advancing on Max, she quickly retreats too.
- When Chloe sees he's only focussed on Max, she steps in to block him from her. Nathan doesn’t even seem to notice. Chloe immediately retreats again once Warren steps in. When Warren pushes Nathan back, Nathan notices.
- The boys posture at each other for a moment. Nathan steps towards Warren when telling him to get out of his face, but does not make any move to attack. Warren instead gets very much in Nathan's face and almost knocks himself out with his own headbutt, but Nathan is successfully downed. In contrast to Warren, who instinctively tucked up defensively in the parking lot, Nathan falls fairly limp. Max holds her nose in shock and possibly a slight reactive empathy, as that’s where Nathan was hit and is now bleeding. Chloe shifts on the spot.
- While Warren tries not to pass out, Nathan is on the ground in a limp tuck, clutching his injury. After a pause, he pulls out his gun. Warren kicks him in the face and he drops the gun, which lands out of reach pointing towards Chloe. She looks from it to Nathan in fear and steps back.
- Nathan immediately tries to stand, focused on Warren but with no visible plan off attack or acknowledgment of the gun. Warren kicks him back down and keeps kicking, while Nathan yells and yelps angrily. Now Nathan’s body begins to tense up as he absorbs the blows, and he uses his arms to shield himself. Warren’s shadow becomes very large and imposing on the wall behind them.
- Stay Out Of It
- On the first two kicks of this sequence, Nathan has one arm raised, palm out, as if trying to block Warren’s foot. The other arm ineffectively shields his core. As he is rolled onto his back, he flails, leaving his core wide open. He keeps his eyes sternly on Warren. He faintly tenses his body for protection, but drops his feet when Warren begins punching him in the face. Before the first punch, Warren pushes Nathan’s arms down as if to pin him and prevent resistance/retaliation, but Nathan's arms are loose, so Warren does not pin him at all. Nathan raises his palms slightly before the first punch and attempts to keep them raised as he flails from the impact.
- Chloe watches on sternly, standing a few steps in front of Max rather than behind, while Max is still freaked out.
- Nathan’s face is quickly bloodied. Eyes closed, palms up, arms loosely flailing with zero attempt to shield himself. The camera angles get more and more askew and shaky as the beating continues. Chloe stands tall and strong while Max steps back.
- Nathan’s whole body becomes loose. His arms extend to either side with his palms up, and even his legs flail limply at each blow.
- Up until this point, Nathan’s voice had held strong, giving up only neutral grunts in response to each blow - if you only listen and don't watch, it sounds positively tame. But then all at once he begins sobbing. When Nathan breaks, Warren pauses, lands his final blow and relents. He kneels over Nathan for a moment.
- After a pause, Nathan slides one arm up to hold his face and slowly turns onto his side and away from them, holding his head protectively with both hands and limply curling up, still begging.
- Warren gets up with Max's help. When Warren moves out of the way, Chloe peeks forward with energy to look at Nathan. The camera begins to return to a normal angle.
- Nathan’s lower jaw shudders while he begins to hold his face and curl into a foetal position, still saying ‘stop, sorry,’ long after the threat is over. Chloe trails behind watching him, eventually grabbing his gun. With her being the last to move towards the exit, Nathan peers out to see that they're leaving, holding one arm over his face protectively with his palm up. Chloe stops, bends down and turns her body towards him to call him a bitch. While holding his gun, her arm swings in his direction as she turns to leave, walking with maximum swagger. As Chloe does this, Nathan appears to be lowering his arm closer to his face and begins rocking.
- The scene ends, and Nathan stays rocking on the floor in the foetal position, holding his face in his hands. After intervals he will weep the lines “Shit man, this really hurts,” “I think my face is broken,” and “Everybody hates me. Everybody,” where his voice breaks into a sob. You bastard.
- Stop Warren
- This scene begins from the opposite angle, with the movement resembling the shaky panning shot of Warren being led from Nathan in the previous iteration.
- When Max moves to pull Warren off, Chloe is leaning in curiously. When we pull back and see her again, she’s pacing towards Max and Warren with her eyes still firmly on Nathan/the gun.
- When we pan down at Nathan after Warren has retreated, he is on his knees turning himself over, rolling limply over his own face. He briefly holds one arm to his ribs before letting it fall limply on the ground in front of him, palm-up.
- As the three walk by him towards the exit, he quickly turns and keeps an eye on them, crawling towards his gun on his hands and feet. He tucks his legs in protectively, avoids his back to them, and bodyblocks them from the gun. Chloe hangs back watching him. He briefly moves to hold his ribs again, but quickly grabs the gun instead. He pivots around on all fours to stand and keeps his back towards the wall as he retreats.
- When he delivers his “you're dead” lines (his body not front-on but slightly to the side in a more submissive posture), he vaguely uses his hand to gesture towards them, but seems to be deliberately holding back from actually pointing the gun at anything. His finger is also not on the trigger for once.
- As Nathan does this, Warren reaches defensively for Max’s hand and Max goes for Chloe’s, both backing away. Chloe's head whips between the gun and the exit, and she turns to barrel through Max and Warren.
- Nathan also deliberately avoids holding his ribs while facing them. At a comfortable distance, when Warren and Chloe begin to exit, Nathan stops talking and turns away to clutch himself and double over in pain, losing his footing slightly. He regains some composure as he makes his exit around the corner, casually holding his ribs and yelling all the way.
