  1. >You gulp
  2. "I...of course."
  3. >You look down
  4. "I'm really really really so-"
  5. >A pair of hooves connect with your face
  6. >You stay on the ground in shock and pain
  7. >Look up
  8. Twilight is trotting away in a huff
  9. >Yeah, you deserved that.
  10. >The elements of harmony leave
  11. >Anon comes over and crouches next to you
  12. >"Thing? I'm sorry, but I have to do this"
  13. >He takes out a necklace and puts it around your neck
  14. >It digs into your flesh
  15. "Gnnnh!"
  16. >"I'm sorry. It has to be this way, though. It'll take a long while to earn back their trust though, if ever. Hell, even my trust might ber hard, I'm sorry to say.
  17. >You nod solemnly
  18. "Is there any way I can make this up to you?"
  19. >He pauses
  20. >"Be a good person. Be you. That's pretty much all I ask"
  21. >You hug him
  22. >Tight
  23. >You never want to let go
  24. >Fast-forward a year
  25. >Twilight has made amazing advances after doing research on you
  26. >She can de-thing-ify ponies
  27. >The first one was Applejack
  28. >She volunteered, even though she had pheomenal powers like yours
  29. >Well, it's not like you can't see why
  30. >Ponies have gotten to know what you are
  31. >Some have moved out of ponyville
  32. >Most have started to somewhat trust you
  33. >The elements of harmony aren't outright hostile to you anymore, but you're still not welcome with them anymore
  34. >Anon, though...
  35. >Anon is wary of you
  36. >Cautious
  37. >He sleeps on the couch
  38. >Your life's...
  39. >Not ruined per se
  40. >But pretty close to it
  41. >You recognize you've been a fool
  42. >Well, were
  43. >You've behaved exemplarily the last year
  44. >You even took down a timberwolf that was trying to kill the mayor
  45. >One day, you can't take it anymore
  46. >The crushing loneliness
  47. >Everyone being so distant from you
  48. >No matter how nice you are
  49. >Even when you have a magically bound collar that will incinerate you if you step even slightly out of line
  50. >You leave Anon a note
  51. >Then head up to a nearby hill
  52. >Quite a tall one
  53. >Kind of a cliff, even
  54. >Maybe you ought to just jump off of it
  55. >End it all
  56. >Couldn't be more painful than your current situation
  57. >Oh well
  58. >You asked Anon to meet you there in your note
  59. >This way, though, he could prepare as much as he wanted before coming
  60. >Maybe he'd bring spinke
  61. >His go-to never-goes-empty flamethrower
  62. >Or just a regular one
  63. >You lay down and wait
  64. >The sun moves across the sky
  65. >All the while dousing you in comfortable warmth
  66. >You've got no idea what time it is
  67. >But it's kind of nice to just be away from it all on your own terms
  68. >If that makes any sort of sense
  69. >Escaping the ostracism
  70. >"You alright, Thing?"
  71. >You jump
  72. "Holy shit, anon! Don't scare me like that!"
  73. >He smiles weakly
  74. >"I'm not gonna say sorry. But anyway, what was it you wanted?"
  75. "I can't stand it anymore, Anon."
  76. >"It?"
  77. >He scratches his head
  78. >Then snaps his fingers
  79. >"Oh. Like that. Well...what can I do about it?"
  80. >You lay your head down on the ground and sigh
  81. "I...I would say 'not treat me like a dangerous criminal', but that's kind of exactly what I am, isn't it."
  82. >You sigh
  83. "I don't know. Kill me or something. I can't live like this, Anon."
  84. >You notice you're speaking in a much colder, monotone voice than usual
  85. >Unintended
  86. >Anon sits down next to you
  87. >"I'm not going to kill you, Thing. Not unless you give me a damn good reason."
  88. >He puts a hand over your heart
  89. >You tilt your head
  90. >"You're a living, breathing, thinking person like us all. You made a crazy bad decision once, that's true, but...I couldn't stand to think of you dying."
  91. "T-then...then why have you been so damn distant ever since the incident?"
  92. >"Because...I was afraid, Thing. Really, really afraid. You threatened to eat me, remember?"
  93. >You gulp
  94. "S-s-sorry..sorry anon."
  95. >He rubs his temples
  96. >"I know you didn't mean it, but for the love of all that's good, you can maybe see how I was a bit afraid? You're...you're incredibly powerful, Thing, and with great power comes great responsibility. I know you did good when you saved the mayor. But...I've been so afraid you'd eat me in my sleep. It's what I would've done with powers like that. If only for revenge."
  97. >He shakes his head
  98. >"That doesn't feel like enough of a justification, though. Maybe I just felt like you'd betrayed my trust. And if you did that, then why ought I give you my trust again?"
  99. >You whimper as each word becomes another laceration on your already bleeding heart
  100. "I...understand, anon."
  101. >You let the silence take its course
  102. >The two of you watch the sun move further
  103. >The wind blows
  104. >Ponyville is bathed in the sun's golden rays
  105. "What can I do, Anon, to redeem myself? I've been trying as best I can to just be a good citizen. A good friend. But nopony's been willing to let me be their friend."
  106. >You feel the familiar sting of tears behind your eyes
