  1. Meeting Notes
  2.
  3. Long-Term Goals
  4. • Human again
  5. • Thriving colony, not just a few lonely survivors
  6. • Preserve human achievements and history
  7.
  8. How to Achieve
  9. • Colony
  10. ◦ Collect as many survivors as possible (500 preferred, 300 minimum)
  11. ◦ Relocate to suitable colony location with:
  12. ▪ Plentiful water
  13. ▪ Fertile soil for cereal grains and root vegetables
  14. ▪ Large enough to expand the population very rapidly
  15. ▪ Close enough to salvage from urban area
  16. ▪ Far away from nuclear plant
  17. ▪ Mild winters
  18. ▪ Low risk of disease
  19. ▪ Plentiful natural resources
  20. ▪ Existing structures (small town buildings, for instance) to use during colony construction
  21. ◦ Construct colony structure
  22. ▪ Use extremely durable materials and construction methods, since large machines won't be available long-term
  23. ▪ Build sustainable, using solar/wind/water (water preferred) for electric power. Collect rainwater. Composting toilets, wood stoves for heating in winter, ect
  24. ▪ Hydrogen fuel cells for power instead of batteries? Store hydrogen during the day, burn during the night. Pressurized volatile gas
  25. ▪ GVCS – use designs available (thanks Joe). Gather each of these 50 machines
  26. ◦ Agriculture
  27. ▪ Gather most advanced, modern machines in the short term, as well as oldest possible antique models in the long term (for when spare parts can no longer be salvaged)
  28. ▪ Clear large areas and assign colonists to farming duties as required.
  29. ▪ Keep and provide for non-meat livestock (chickens, goats, sheep, cows)
  30. ◦ Government
  31. ▪ Build population as quickly as possible (gross)
  32. ▪ Get it right this time? (what does that mean)
  33. ▪ Continue search for new recruits and salvage missions out into the wider world.
  34. ▪ Radio network
  35. ▪ Unify all survivors into one place (only if possible peacefully)
  36. ◦ Safety
  37. ▪ Large fences (electrified if possible) to keep out dangerous animals and pests. This should minimize or even remove the need for anyone to carry personal weapons (or for any sort of army)
  38. ▪ Chose area with low fire risk, outside natural disaster areas (hurricanes, earthquakes, ect)
  39. • Knowledge
  40. ◦ Gather paper books covering practical subjects
  41. ◦ College textbooks on engineering and scientific subjects
  42. ◦ Greatest creations of art, philosophy, ect
  43. ◦ Maintain internet database (and recover knowledge from offline server farms) for as long as salvageable parts permit.
  44. ◦ Create mesh-network “internet” between survivor devices. Share and cache information
  45. ◦ Recover artifacts, movies, ect, and take steps to preserve cultural sites where possible
  46. ◦ Store backups of everything on acid-free paper in a different location from main cache in case of disaster or fire
  47. ◦ Use pre-Event school curriculum to ensure any colony created preserves a high standard of learning
  48. ◦ Preserve many copies of maps, particularly those that show the locations of important sites
  49. ◦ Save copies of important cultural and religious texts
