  1. Emmanuel Nanthan, President of the Dominica Cricket Association, said in an interview with the Trinidad Guardian that Shivnarine Chanderpaul is deserving of receiving citizen ship from the Prime Minister
  2. Nanthan said that it was a tremendous honour to be bestowed upon a cricketer. “The Prime Minister extended the honour of citizenship to Chanderpaul as the most capped West Indian Cricketer.”

  4. “Chanderpaul is a dedicated, loyal and hardworking Caribbean citizen, and he is deserving of the honour.” Nanthan continued, “He displayed a tremendous performance done by a hardworking young man.”

  6. Nanthan made mention of 2 Australian cricketers, Matthew Hayden and Herschelle Gibbs, who were given Honorary citizenship in St. Kitts. Hayden who scored the fastest World Cup Century, and fastest Century by an Australian and Gibbs who scored 6 sixes in an over.

  8. “As Caribbean citizens, we should push forward.” Nanthan added.

  10. “Matter must be looked into.” Leader of the Opposition, Hector John said to the Guardian on the controversy over Shivnarine Chanderpaul receiving Dominican citizen ship from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

  12. John said that, in terms of Chanderpaul given citizenship by the Prime Minister, that nowhere in the constitution or Citizens Act says that citizenship can be given without application. “You should apply; it must be done with an application.”
  13. Adding that, in no country can one be given citizenship without first making application.
