- The rules below are designed to preserve the excitement Kaizo IronMON, but with a greater emphasis on skill and less emphasis on luck. These rules are for FireRed, but they could be modified for other games.
- 1. Add a move tutor to the lab and Viridian Forest who can teach any move, but you can only use this feature once
- 2. Add a salesman to the lab who sells all items for $600 each (or just good items, if the game has an inventory cap), but can't buy your items
- 3. You can choose any starter ball
- 4. All TMs are allowed to be taught
- 5. 100% TM and move tutor compatibility
- 6. 100% success rate for all balls
- 7. Everything is a dungeon (Viridian Forest, each route, each city, each building -- including centers and the lab)
- 8. You can re-enter up to 2 areas in order to reach Saffron City (typically done after Blaine/Route 21 by flying to Celadon --> Route 7)
- 9. Lavender Rival must be done later
- 10. You are allowed to cancel evolutions
- Rule 2 is primarily designed to make up for lost experience in Viridian Forest and early Viridian Rival (since that fight is banned as a result of every route being a dungeon). You can just buy 5 candies to reach a reasonable level for Brock, or perhaps 4 candies and a PP Max.
- Rules 1-3 make Rival 1 much easier, so the main luck-based reset point is neutralized.
- Rules 1, 4 and 5 improve the odds of getting a winnable moveset, so runs are almost never lost to bad moves.
- Rule 6 adds tons of difficulty. Not only are you forced to clear routes in one go, but you can't enter some areas at all, and you can only use each Pokemon Center once. This means most Pokemon will make it to the Elite Four at a much lower level, so they will struggle despite having amazing movesets. However, more seeds should be winnable with proper decision making, since you have so much control over your Pokemon's moves.
- Rule 6 also reduces the amount of time spent backtracking for items, centering after every fight, etc. It should eliminate the boring parts of the run entirely. Of course, the run overall will require much more planning, so viewers who only want to watch gameplay and not strategy discussion will be bored.
