  1. • So what is this event, why am I raising money, and just what exactly is going on here?
  2.
  3. → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3IaFs8PHHE (#1)
  4. → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz3M6hmZdmY (#2)
  5.
  6. The "Sprashfecta" (Spyro-Crash-Trifecta) is a race to complete all 3 original PS1 games in the trilogies of BOTH Crash and Spyro.
  7. Crash 1 100%, Crash 2 100%, Crash 3 105%, Spyro 1 120%, Spyro 2 100%, and Spyro 3 117% are the 6 runs required to complete the
  8. race (don't mind the percentages over 100, that's just how the games were made).
  9.
  10. I am(was) raising money to pay out to the top finishers of the race. [ donations closed, $233.68 raised, thanks so much!! ]
  11. Why exactly? I see this as a big, big thing. I want to provide some incentive for people to learn the games and do their best.
  12. Plus, money-match races are hype. Despite what people say about "adding in the money factor ruins it" and stuff, I think it's a
  13. really cool thing to incorporate in competitive gaming, though it's rarely seen in or even applicable to speedrunning.
  14.
  15. This is how it will work:
  16. ________
  17. donations → → (Cash$Pot) → → 1st place (more on this here!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. my contribution* → → \______/ → → 2nd place, etc. http://pastebin.com/dNjv6rY1 )
  19.
  20. *I will personally toss in $5 PER entrant for the race. This is to simulate an entry fee, like a smash bros. tourney or something.
  21.
  22.
  23. • So how long will this take, and does it all have to be done at once?
  24.
  25. The following are the world record times for each category: (not guaranteed accurate after Dec. 6th)
  26. Crash 1 100% = 1:14:37 by WHiPCPL
  27. Crash 2 100% = 1:15:52 by SwordOfSeals
  28. Crash 3 105% = 2:11:07 by saboom
  29. Spyro 1 120% = 1:26:50 by ChrisLBC
  30. Spyro 2 100% = 1:49:51 by AlexDest
  31. Spyro 3 117% = 3:29:28 by saboom
  32. Totals: 642% = 11:27:45
  33.
  34. And absolutely no one single person is WR-tier at all 6. So as you can imagine, it will take somewhere in the neighborhood of
  35. ~15 hours for a good runner. And in reality, anything under 24 hours is worth a flippin' pat on the back.
  36.
  37. Yes, it does all have to be done at once. In fact here's a good spot to dump some formal rules. If you're a racer, PLEASE read the
  38. following carefully.
  39. - Obvious SRL style rules. (save states, frame limiter etc.)
  40. (more on that here - http://www.speedrunslive.com/faq/rules/ )
  41. - The games may be completed in ANY order you please.
  42. - You may not save one game (say, at 50%), play another, then come back to it later; each game must be completed as an RTA.
  43. - There are no set breaks. Take breaks as you need them.
  44. - PS2 Fast Disc Speed is allowed for everything except Spyro 3. (This is because it tends to freeze the game -- nobody uses
  45. FDS for Spyro 3, so don't forget to revert back to Standard for 117%.)
  46. - Emulator, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, Magical Albanian Potato, any platform is allowed, as long as you can play the game.
  47. - Streaming or at least local recording during the race is strictly required to be eligible for the prize payout.
  48.
  49.
  50. • Some advice to racers,
  51. - I can guarantee at least one person will forfeit due to losing a run from a game crash. These games are not entirely the most
  52. stable. Common crash points include (but are certainly not limited to): http://pastebin.com/BWic2a8F (thanks, Rabid) There are
  53. tons more places that many others and I have crashed before. I could write a novel if I were to list them all. Point is,
  54. you're more than welcome to save your game as often as you like (again, NO SAVESTATES, only in-game saving) or use auto-save
  55. (available in Spyro 2 & 3 - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). You may load back up a saved file *created during the race* in the case of a
  56. crash. You may NOT have pre-made files saved before crash-sensitive areas, such as a 105% up to Double Header made in advance.
  57. - Get good sleep, eat, go to the bathroom, do all that good ol' human stuff in advance! It is likely you'll have to do it all at
  58. least one more time during (except sleep, hopefully), but I'd advise not starting the race already on the verge of needing a
  59. restroom break. Keep in mind that the way this is set up, it's also a test of endurance. We may see someone beat out someone
  60. else just because they had less, or no, break-time. This is what most people were in favor of.
  61. - Yes, there is money on the line, but hopefully that's, well, something you almost forget about. The intention is not to add
  62. stress. Just chill, have a fun time racing, and yeah. No Salt, no tears. Load times, break times, console vs. emulator, NTSC
  63. vs. PAL, don't want none of that stuff. In the end, the only thing being measured is your time from "GO!!" to ".done"
  64.
  65.
  66. • That about sums up everything. Thanks for reading. PLEASE do not hesitate to send me a Twitch Message (channel name: 'SSBMstuff') if
  67. if you have any questions whatsoever. Whether it's a language-barrier, something I didn't explain well, or something I completely
  68. forgot. Just ask me via Twitch PM!!
  69.
  70.
  71. gl & hf,
  72. saboom
