- [14:11:18] <camerongray> But that can be very expensive
- [14:11:56] <partyo> PCdoc: Bootleg Windows...
- [14:12:54] <guest_88> umm...does external hard disk(fresh from the market) can replace my laptop hard disk?
- [14:15:55] <PCdoc> partyo: no way!!
- [14:16:40] <guest_88> can someone answer me?
- [14:16:46] <partyo> PCdoc: That's the only time i've ever seen that error message...
- [14:18:35] <camerongray> guest_88: Depends on the external drive
- [14:18:49] <camerongray> But you would have to dismantle it and fit the drive inside the laptop
- [14:19:07] <guest_88> what if it fits inside it?
- [14:19:16] <camerongray> Should work fine!
- [14:19:28] <camerongray> I've stolen many HDDs from external drives before!
- [14:19:29] <guest_88> oh ok
- [14:23:12] <guest_88> thx camerongray for helping me
- [14:23:19] <lostcoast> thats lame advice
- [14:24:22] <lostcoast> buy a laptop hard drive
- [14:27:12] <-- guest_88 ([email protected]) has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
- [14:27:13] <camerongray> lostcoast: No reason why it wouldn't work
- [14:27:32] <camerongray> Most external drives contain off the shelf drives (Not all, I have one where the USB interface is directly on the PCB)
- [14:28:17] <camerongray> The main storage drive in my desktop is a 1tb WD Green pulled straght from the WD Elements external drive that I was no longer using
- [14:28:42] <lostcoast> I dont care its a hack advice for the sitch
- [14:28:48] <camerongray> Has been going in there for a couple of years now, no problem - I even had the drive inside our satellite reciever
- [14:29:09] <camerongray> Not a "hack" at all! - No different from stealing a drive from another machine
- [14:29:32] <camerongray> Except the drive is new, just in a fancy box instead of a cardboard one!
- [14:29:41] <lostcoast> you suggest this not know what drive it is
- [14:29:49] <lostcoast> knowing*
- [14:29:59] <camerongray> And how do I not know what a drive is?
- [14:30:00] <lostcoast> so can it
- [14:30:32] <camerongray> Ahh
- [14:30:41] <camerongray> Didn't you see what I said...
- [14:30:47] <camerongray> [14:18:35] <camerongray> guest_88: Depends on the external drive
- [14:31:11] <camerongray> Then: [14:19:07] <guest_88> what if it fits inside it?
- [14:31:11] <camerongray> [14:19:16] <camerongray> Should work fine!
- [14:31:15] <lostcoast> you dont see what I said it seems
- [14:31:20] <camerongray> If the drive fits in te laptop it will work!
- [14:32:13] <lostcoast> stop dragging this out...its far fetched
- [14:32:59] <Gat_man> yo lostcoast
- [14:33:11] <lostcoast> hi
- [14:33:25] <Gat_man> ;)
- [14:33:29] <-> Guest54822 is now known as Asize10
- [14:33:51] <Gat_man> incoming!!!!
- [14:34:28] <Gat_man> yo there Asize10
- [14:34:30] <Asize10> hold on to your hats
- [14:34:52] <Asize10> good morrow to thee Gat_man
- [14:34:56] <Gat_man> te he he
- [14:35:46] <Gat_man> and tot hee good morrow
- [14:35:50] <camerongray> lostcoast: I'm not dragging it out but I answered the guest's question correctly - No reason why it wouldn't or shouldn't work unless the drive was one of the very few with the USB interface directly on the PCB in which case this would be obvious
- [14:36:23] <lostcoast> ok cameron see ya in 24 hrs...lil warning about when to listen and stop
- [14:36:32] *** Mode #computerhope +b *!*@mib-86A65942.camerongray.me by lostcoast
