  1. [14:11:18] <camerongray> But that can be very expensive
  2. [14:11:56] <partyo> PCdoc: Bootleg Windows...
  3. [14:12:54] <guest_88> umm...does external hard disk(fresh from the market) can replace my laptop hard disk?
  4. [14:15:55] <PCdoc> partyo: no way!!
  5. [14:16:40] <guest_88> can someone answer me?
  6. [14:16:46] <partyo> PCdoc: That's the only time i've ever seen that error message...
  7. [14:18:35] <camerongray> guest_88: Depends on the external drive
  8. [14:18:49] <camerongray> But you would have to dismantle it and fit the drive inside the laptop
  9. [14:19:07] <guest_88> what if it fits inside it?
  10. [14:19:16] <camerongray> Should work fine!
  11. [14:19:28] <camerongray> I've stolen many HDDs from external drives before!
  12. [14:19:29] <guest_88> oh ok
  13. [14:23:12] <guest_88> thx camerongray for helping me
  14. [14:23:19] <lostcoast> thats lame advice
  15. [14:24:22] <lostcoast> buy a laptop hard drive
  16. [14:27:12] <-- guest_88 ([email protected]) has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
  17. [14:27:13] <camerongray> lostcoast: No reason why it wouldn't work
  18. [14:27:32] <camerongray> Most external drives contain off the shelf drives (Not all, I have one where the USB interface is directly on the PCB)
  19. [14:28:17] <camerongray> The main storage drive in my desktop is a 1tb WD Green pulled straght from the WD Elements external drive that I was no longer using
  20. [14:28:42] <lostcoast> I dont care its a hack advice for the sitch
  21. [14:28:48] <camerongray> Has been going in there for a couple of years now, no problem - I even had the drive inside our satellite reciever
  22. [14:29:09] <camerongray> Not a "hack" at all! - No different from stealing a drive from another machine
  23. [14:29:32] <camerongray> Except the drive is new, just in a fancy box instead of a cardboard one!
  24. [14:29:41] <lostcoast> you suggest this not know what drive it is
  25. [14:29:49] <lostcoast> knowing*
  26. [14:29:59] <camerongray> And how do I not know what a drive is?
  27. [14:30:00] <lostcoast> so can it
  28. [14:30:32] <camerongray> Ahh
  29. [14:30:41] <camerongray> Didn't you see what I said...
  30. [14:30:47] <camerongray> [14:18:35] <camerongray> guest_88: Depends on the external drive
  31. [14:31:11] <camerongray> Then: [14:19:07] <guest_88> what if it fits inside it?
  32. [14:31:11] <camerongray> [14:19:16] <camerongray> Should work fine!
  33. [14:31:15] <lostcoast> you dont see what I said it seems
  34. [14:31:20] <camerongray> If the drive fits in te laptop it will work!
  35. [14:32:13] <lostcoast> stop dragging this out...its far fetched
  36. [14:32:59] <Gat_man> yo lostcoast
  37. [14:33:11] <lostcoast> hi
  38. [14:33:25] <Gat_man> ;)

  42. [14:34:30] <Asize10> hold on to your hats
  43. [14:34:52] <Asize10> good morrow to thee Gat_man
  44. [14:34:56] <Gat_man> te he he
  45. [14:35:46] <Gat_man> and tot hee good morrow
  46. [14:35:50] <camerongray> lostcoast: I'm not dragging it out but I answered the guest's question correctly - No reason why it wouldn't or shouldn't work unless the drive was one of the very few with the USB interface directly on the PCB in which case this would be obvious
  47. [14:36:23] <lostcoast> ok cameron see ya in 24 hrs...lil warning about when to listen and stop
