  1. [18:00:09 PM] r000n: Freicoin Foundation weekly meeting #4
  2. [18:02:07 PM] maaku: I'm going to merge bitcoin 0.7.2 and make a 0.0.2 release
  3. [18:04:25 PM] jtimon: what's the state of the foundation's paperwork?
  4. [18:04:32 PM] jtimon: What else do we need?
  5. [18:09:34 PM] maaku: I'm cobbling together bylaws and incorporation documents; hopefully I can submit that by the end of the week
  6. [18:10:23 PM] maaku: at this point we don't need anything on that front, it's just a matter of filling out forms and such
  7. [18:11:24 PM] maaku: we need people thinking up and working on proposals
  8. [18:11:51 PM] jtimon: ok, thanks, then I'll keep on doing it
  9. [18:13:23 PM] jtimon: maybe we should prepare a list of potential grantees to make a coordinated invitation or something
  10. [18:13:53 PM] maaku: i think that would be a good idea
  11. [18:16:02 PM] jtimon: although I still think it will be hard to give away grants without an exchange and without merchants
  12. [18:16:19 PM] jtimon: you just can't easily price frc right now
  13. [18:17:04 PM] maaku: jtimon: yes, which makes my thinking that the initial grants should be small, just to get the process moving
  14. [18:17:27 PM] maaku: until reliable exchanges and merchant services are in place
  15. [18:17:55 PM] jtimon: how much is "small", aproximately?
  16. [18:18:46 PM] maaku: this isn't going to answer your question, but "large enough to elicit proposals, but no larger"
  17. [18:21:13 PM] jtimon: I guess we should target "small grantees" for our list and see what happens?
  18. [18:22:18 PM] maaku: yes, and we don't have to set the amount quite yet
  19. [18:22:42 PM] maaku: it would be good actually to work with people to see what their expectations are
  20. [18:23:24 PM] maaku: and if we want we can delay the decision until the first round of proposals are received, and then base a decision on that
  21. [18:23:46 PM] maaku: as long as we initially set the expectation that the first few rounds will be small.
  22. [18:24:19 PM] maaku: btw this hasn't come up, but I'm not worried about the hash rate at all
  23. [18:24:43 PM] maaku: imho this is simply a combination of a lack of exchange and the skyrocketing btc price
  24. [18:24:54 PM] jtimon: we could announce it like that, "the first amounts will depend on the proposals presented"
  25. [18:25:38 PM] maaku: jtimon: yes, that's my thinking
  26. [18:26:30 PM] jtimon: difficulty will lower "soon", judging from the last graph I saw, although I didn't counted the blocks, lazy me
  27. [18:28:10 PM] jtimon: it went too fast at first, so it  may even be good that it slows down
  28. [18:28:26 PM] maaku: we have exactly 400 blocks to go to the next adjustment
  29. [18:29:14 PM] r000n: ~2 weeks
  30. [18:36:15 PM] maaku: but i wanted to get a GUI element first that warns if there is a significant mismatch between block height and reference height
  31. [18:36:35 PM] maaku: which I'm working on now
  32. [18:37:08 PM] maaku: i'm thinking just highlight the reference height in red if it differs from the block height by more than 6
  33. [18:37:30 PM] maaku: and maybe a tooltip explaining why
  34. [18:37:40 PM] jtimon: yes, now that people are warned, it's better time to put it easier to change refHeigh
  35. [18:38:18 PM] jtimon: sounds good
  36. [18:39:13 PM] jtimon: a wiki article would be cool too
  37. [18:41:59 PM] jtimon: explaining why that's an attack and what the limitations of the attack are if you just look at the refHeight
  38. [18:42:51 PM] maaku: ah okay, that's a good idea
  39. [18:50:15 PM] maaku: ok, so tasks for me: 0.0.2 release and debugging freico.in page buildout, and incorporation paperwork
  40. [18:50:46 PM] maaku: if someone wants to take a stab a the ref height wiki article, that'd be great - it'd take one thing off my pile of work
  41. [18:51:19 PM] maaku: and in general, continue finding people to solicit proposals from, and working with them to see what their requirements/expectations are
  42. [18:51:31 PM] jtimon: Ok, I can do that
  43. [18:51:57 PM] jtimon: the wiki article, and that too
  44. [18:52:21 PM] maaku: cool. then unless anyone else has business, that's a wrap for this meeting
