  1. VERY PUBLIC RADIO.
  2. ==================
  3.
  4.
  5. BASIC INFORMATION
  6.
  7. An internet radio station hosted at http://aaaaarg.fail.
  8. Began broadcasting: on 20 October 2015.
  9. Average listeners: 20
  10. Max listeners: 37
  11.
  12.
  13. ABOUT OF THE STATION
  14.
  15. * It is based on the interests of the community of aaaaarg.fail, which is a collective online
  16. library generally focused on philosophy, aesthetics, politics, design, and technology. The
  17. library supports students struggling against institutions, autonomous self-education, social
  18. movements, and other collective creative practices.
  19.
  20. * There is no fixed program or schedule. When someone wants to broadcast (if there is not
  21. someone already broadcasting at that moment) they connect and broadcast live right away. When
  22. they are finished, that broadcast is added to the archive.
  23.
  24. * When no one is broadcasting, the archived broadcasts are replayed in random order.
  25.
  26.
  27. LIVE BROADCASTS?
  28.
  29. So far there have been no live broadcasts, only rebroadcasts of lectures, discussions, and readings,
  30. often by the same people who are in the library.
  31.
  32. Eventually, in the spirit of Bertolt Brecht (in "The Radio as an Apparatus of Communication") or
  33. Radio Alice, we would like to open up the broadcast booth to all listeners. The technology for this
  34. is already in place (see http://aaaaarg.fail/radio/speak). Perhaps the most rational thing would be
  35. to establish a sensibility by setting forth an initial constellation of voices, themes,
  36. and formats. But for now, let's just let it
  37.
  38.
  39. CONSTELLATION
  40.
  41. We are especially interested in giving voice-time to:
  42. - students involved in occupations or other actions
  43. - people working in libraries thinking about digitization, copyright, access, etc.
  44. - readings by writers of recently published texts
  45. - demands of the publishing industry, or aaaaarg.fail for that matter
  46. - verbal annotations/ readings of texts in the library
  47. - autonomous spaces who want to amplify an event they are putting on
  48. - tbc
  49.
  50.
  51. HOW
  52.
  53. The no-configuration way is this:
  54.
  55. 1. Using Chrome, go to: http://aaaaarg.fail/radio/speak
  56. 2. When you click "start broadcasting" and see the line moving, you're on!
  57. 3. Click "stop broadcasting" when you're done
  58.
  59. If you are an experienced broadcaster, you may have a favorite tool (like BUTT) and
  60. if so, then write to aaaarg.org@gmail.com and we will send you the login credentials.
