- EDITOR'S NOTE: Last week, The Anaheim Mighty Ducks - one of two franchises set to join the NHL this season - unveiled its logo, seen at right. The Windsor Star invited readers to critique the emblem. There were 11 responses - two liked the logo and nine were aghast. The following are excerpts from each letter.
- "The name is stupid, the logo is ugly and the colors sound downright blinding . . . Disney is making pro hockey look like a circus and the Mighty Ducks are the clowns." - Michael O'Neill, Windsor.

- "Get real. This logo looks like a cross between Darkwing Duck (an afternoon cartoon) and Jason from Friday the 13th. . . . If anything, the opposing team will laugh till it hurts when they see their road game jerseys." - Dave Harangozo, McGregor.

- "This logo suggests a piece of Swiss cheese put across two sticks to dry, but the sun got to it." - Frank Pavicic, Windsor.

- ". . . logo will be a big hit with the kids. But myself, I feel the name of this team is a joke to the NHL." - Peter Brown, Windsor

- "I think the logo is a lame duck. Come on, hockey is not for ducks." - Frankie Fantetti, Windsor.

- "Any established NHL team should feel ashamed to lose to a team with that type of logo." - Rod Gagnon, Windsor.

- "I think the new Ducks logo is a high-flyer. Of all the logos in the NHL, I think this one is the best one." - Patrick Chan, Windsor.
- * * * *
- The logo "is a disgrace to the NHL system and to Canadians. . . I also think that the jerseys are a bit babyish." - Eric Hinse.

- "I thought it was very distinctive - very Disney - very 'Ducky'. I hope they can contribute some real competition in the NHL and truly become the Mighty Ducks." - Marianna Mayberry, Windsor.
- * * * *
- "The Disney executives had nothing more than duck-shaped dollar signs in their heads when they purchased an NHL team. But I do have to give them credit, they sure do know how to make the almighty duck (buck)." - Dan Dupuis, Windsor.

- "Effectively, they've belittled the whole league to the point of being a source of embarassment . . my sympathy goes out to the professional players who will have to don those ridiculous garments . . . Perhaps Ringling Bros. will be next, and the players will all wear clown faces. - David Knister, Tilbury.
