  1. 7. Find a web site on Amy Tan or on The Joy Luck Club, and write a one-page review of what it contains and what it is like.
  2.
  3. The website I am reviewing is, Amytan.net. The website is her personal site, where she posts blogs, pictures, and general information about herself and the novels she writes. The site is well produced, it has a lot of great information on Amy Tan, and it has a very user-friendly feel to it.
  4. The first thing I notice upon reviewing Amy Tan’s website is the production. It is a well produced and expensive looking site. The site is embellished in great flash coding, an excellent theme, and superb layout. The flash coding is a great flair to Amy Tan’s site. The coding helps visually organize the information for a greatly enhanced visiting experience. The theme is very nice as well; it gives a natural, vintage feel to the website. The way the coding and theme interlace to form a cohesive site is fantastic.
  5. Not only does the site look great but it yields a lot of great, easily accessible information. The website provides the visitor with almost everything about Amy Tan, from personal things to tour dates. Within fifteen minutes of visiting the site, I already know worlds more then what I did before I visited this site. The information on this site is from Amy Tan; therefore it does not suffer the same faint as the small bits of tainted information on the internet.
  6. The overarching theme to Amy Tan’s website compliments the pictures she provides, vintage, and an organically natural feeling. The site uses handfuls of rich browns, burgundies, and grays. Columns help set off and organize everything while maintaining that natural feel. I think the theme is excellent and natural.
  7. Overall, I think Amy Tan’s website is great. It provides excellent untainted, true information, great and flashy style of coding to help organize the site, and an above par theme that feels very natural. So in closing, I feel that I have to give it the over-cliché rating system. I rate Amy Tan’s site a 5/5 for the reasons being stated beforehand.

  10. 13. In the novel, the relationship between the daughters and their mothers is very strained. Compare and contrast this to your own relationship with your parents.
  11.
  12. The relationship between the mothers and their daughters in this book is a very awkward one. The daughters cast out the “silly” beliefs that their mothers try to instill in them. In the mothers try to refute the common social behavior in America. Luckily, my relationship with my mother is nowhere near as trying as the daughters in the novel.
  13. In the novel we read, The Joy Luck Club, it’s obvious that the daughters and their mothers have a strained line of communication. Luckily, my mother and I have a wonderful relationship that is based off of good communication, an understanding of each other and light humor. My mom and I tell each other everything that happens in our lives. She does not hide anything from me, and I do not hide anything from her. It makes both of our lives infinitely easier to enjoy, and it makes school and working much simpler as well.
  14. Unlike the Chinese mothers in The Joy Luck Club, my mother and I understand each other, and we understand where both of us come from. She funds and allows my passion for music, and I help her through the hard times that she has. We have been through the lowest of lows and the highest of highs. After my sister died my mother was a complete wreck. She was so upset we didn’t live in our house for a few months. To get our minds off the tragic accident, we set up a trip to Jamaica. The experience was mind blowing and it helped remove some of the negative emotions that clouded our mind.
  15. I’ve also noticed the Chinese mothers have a very raw attitude; I never sensed any humor or light-heartedness from them. However, my mother is hilarious and fun to live with and when my mom and I are together we always have a good time. It makes living by her rules much easier. When I’m having a teenage stress meltdown, she always helps me find a solution to calm down.
  16. So overall, my mom and I’s relationship is the opposite of the Chinese daughters and their mothers. This is due to an open line of communication, willingness to understand each other, and our light humored attitude.

  18. 5. Who do you think is stronger—the older women in the book or the younger ones? Explain your answer.
  19.
  20. In the novel, The Joy Luck Club, there is an overarching question that inconspicuously exists. Who is stronger—the older women or the younger daughters? The appropriately answer this question I think one must understand the differences in strength. There is mental fortitude, and emotional strength. To be mentally resilient
