With your partner, divide the two stories into 2-3 paragraphs each. Write a "P" where the new paragraph should begin.

Sentence: subject + information about the subject

Paragraph (a few sentences):
	- topic sentence (the "subject" of the paragraph, or main idea)
	- specific details about the topic (one or more sentences)
	(- concluding sentence - often if it's the first or last paragraph)

Short (probably academic) Essay (a few paragraphs):
	- Introduction paragraph
		- starts with background information about the general topic
		- the last sentence is your thesis statement, it tells readers what
		  the rest of the essay will focus on)
	- Body paragraphs - develop the topic with supporting details
		(if my thesis is, "My favorite place is the forest," these
		paragraphs will explain why that's my favorite place)
	- Conclusion (usually the most difficult to write)
		- Summary of your thesis and support
		- return to the general topic with ideas about the future or your
		  opinion, etc.

Longer article (or book):
	- Introductory section or chapter
	- Development sections or chapters
	- Conclusions and recommendations for the future
