  2.
  3. When Ghetsis was defeated atop N's castle most people had assumed N's dream had not only been doomed never to see the light of day but abandoned by N himself. Team Plasma was a broken shell of its former self, its members in hiding or prison and it's sages having more or less accepted their failure. Team Plasma never recovered, and so the crisis was thought to have passed.
  4.
  5. ...However, what nobody had seen coming was that N's dream lived on not through N, nor Team Plasma, nor even Ghetsis, but through their admirers. A group of radicals operating low-key as scientists pursued to succeed where N had failed through their own, far less innocent methods. They sought to engineer something that could break the mysterious bond between man and pokemon under the guise of trying to understand it, and so they did.
  6.
  7. First they created a formula that could break the bond and, through further study, they were able to initiate a kind of biological warfare--unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. A memetic virus was released upon the world which could infect and attack pokemon, closing the doors to their hearts thereby removing their ability to develop or maintain bonds with their trainers. Pokemon began to rebel when released from their pokeballs, fleeing and outright attacking their trainers in a bid for freedom.
  8.
  9. The worst had yet to come. From atop their celestial perch, the almighty Arceus observed what was happening. Arceus looked down upon the planet and discovered that the natural order had been disrupted and pokemon were left confused and lost, their minds warped by the virus. The normally dormant deity was enraged by this crime against both humanity and pokemon combined and cast his wrath down upon the planet. Every remaining pokemon was called back to his divine domain, vanishing from the face of the earth and leaving the humans who brought about this disaster to suffer the effects of their own arrogance.
  10.
  11. Humanity was thrown into a panic. Their societies had relied upon the immense and cheap labour provided by pokemon for almost every facet of life. Without pokemon, there was no meat. Without pokemon, there was no electricity. Without pokemon, medicine was greatly hindered. Society began collapsing as resources were made scarce people began resorting to whatever they needed to do to survive. Crime consumed cities. People began to die in hordes.
  12.
  13. In the end, humanity was nearly wiped out, though as the population declined it became easier for individuals to survive. Unspeakable horrors were committed in the name of life or death and a new era of darkness was formed with children taking the brunt of the brutality. Population control became a very serious concern and having children without the permission of a local community could result in the death of an entire family, delivered at the hands of their peers.
  14.
  15. Very few humans were able to hold onto their humanity without dying, and though they were inevitably quashed by time, Arceus eventually found it within itself to show mercy. With its unparalleled power, Arceus brought pokemon back to the world in a new form, a form not even the ever-present virus could corrupt...
  16.
  17. A quake of unimaginable power shook Mt. Coronet and tore it asunder. Yet, from the gaping wound in the earth erupted a giant crystal formation. The crystal shimmered with divine power and from it the spirits of the pokemon returned. From then on, children, usually from the age of 10, would feel drawn to the site. Atop Mt. Coronet the spirit of a pokemon would choose them and fuse with them, giving the child the ability to take on some of the features of that pokemon and access to that pokemon's powers.
  18.
  19. In addition, a large stone tablet rose with the formation, upon which was carved the following words in a mysterious language that only pokemon spirits can translate:
  20.
  21. "BRING YOURSELVES TO JUSTICE"
  22. "The world has been broken, and it is humanity's fault."
  23. "It is up to you to bring justice to yourselves and the world."
  24. "You must guide yourself, however..."
  25. "These are the laws of Arceus!"
  26.
  27. "Let yourself be cleansed of your moral preconceptions. From the first time you've read these commandments, let them guide you and choose the world you want to live in."
  28. "You shall not harm or trap the spirit of the pokemon, else divine retribution shall find you."
  29. "Possess no more than six pokemon spirits, else their presence shall overwhelm you."
  30. "The journey to receive your pokespirit is a sacred one. Treat it as such."
  31. "Act in the best interest in of the world.
  32.
  33. It's now up to these children to change the world for better or worse. What will you fight for, and ultimately what will become of humanity and the world they live in?
