  1. Arkalest Irene shows up not one minute later nor one earlier than the time displayed on the invite- Wearing a conservative grey hoodie emblazoned with a black hexagon pattern and clad in a pair of fatigue pants.
  2. Arkalest She waves a hand in a friendly manner- Her other arm hooked around a picnic basket.
  3. Sabina opesn the door and bows her head. "Hello Irene, thank you joining me. Please join me inside."
  4. Arkalest She smiles- Thoughts grey with a hint of turquoise for curiosity- And steps inside, faintly smelling of citrus and roses.
  5. Sabina The interior of Sabina's apartment is open and airy, the walls a neutral beige. Paintings, most are land-scapes that hang from the walls, some in monochrome others in quietly vivid shades of dusk. The floor is modeled after a dark wooden paneling, a low coffee table stands in the living beside a couch and a chair, each laden with matching pillows. Another smaller table is near the kitchen. A...
  6. Sabina ...assortment of plants and flowers have found home in the space, small bursts of floral color and green to liven the space up. The lights are dimmed slightly, giving a soft light. A pot of tea and a pair of cups, alongside a small plate of cookies, waits on the coffee table.
  7. Arkalest Irene tilts her head in interest at the paintings, watching them intantly as she walks into the apartment, shoulders relaxed. Her gaze stops on one of the ones drawn from the local ambience, and she raises an eyebrow as she sits down near the coffee table.
  8. Sabina takes a seat as well and offers to pour her some of the tea. "A hobby of mine," her eyes flicker to one of the paintings "I find it soothing."
  9. Arkalest She shifts her gaze to one of the paintings from your homeworld, nodding as she does. "The colour is a bit off for me, but I think it's a matter of visual perception."
  10. Sabina "Probably, though I do find how those sort of differences manifest in the artwork people create and how they view others. I've done some light studying on the topic since I came here." She pours herself a cup of tea as well and sets the kettle aside, letting the tea cool.
  11. Sabina *Find it interesting
  12. Arkalest Irene nods again and places the basket on the table- Opening it to reveal a bounty of glass jars containing various condements.
  13. Sabina "Oh, thank you, that looks quite interesting."
  14. Arkalest "They're a selection of marmalades from the Core. "
  15. Arkalest "But, do tell me more about light composition.."
  16. Sabina nods and begins a light discussion on such while jointly enjoying the tea and snacks with Irene.
  17. Arkalest She nods, legs crossed as she drinks her tea- Pinkie out. Her paucity of movements reminds you of Tuissant, ans you can see the similiarities a bit more. Eventually she speaks up. "Did you have any formal training as an artist?"
  18. Arkalest "As in, an academy or a tutor?"
  19. Arkalest "or was it all self-learned?"
  20. Sabina "Mostly self learned, though I was able to have a few informal lessons with a one of the artists of my clan." She gestures to one of the monochrome paintings "She mostly works in monochromes, and she is who I emulate when I attempt the style."
  21. Arkalest She raises an eyebrow. "Interesting. I assume it has something to do with the lighting conditions of your homeworld?"
  22. Sabina "More political really. There's a rather strong school of thought that monochrome is a superior art-form. That it's more pure, as without color the artist must have better mastery of structure and composition. I do not quite agree with that assessment myself, though I am somewhat biased on the matter as well."
  23. Arkalest "I see, mmh." Irene quietly stares at one of the monochrome paintings. "It's, well, unusual."
  24. Arkalest She leans back on the chair. "You're not gonna find a lot of mainstream Core artists using such a limited colour palette."
  25. Sabina "I would only be surprised if I had. What's in vogue in the core as of now?"
  26. Arkalest "Depends on the region, but right now there's a lot of academic debate about memory painting- Which is, well, using memory reading and psi to create impressions on canvas."
  27. Sabina "Ah, I've heard a bit about that type of painting, though I am curious as to the thrust of the debate on them."
  28. Arkalest "it's a matter of privacy. Some people saying we should not allow others to so easily access the most intimate contents of our mind, but, well:" She shrugs. "other say that that's more or less one of the reasons art exists."
  29. Sabina nods.
  30. Sabina "I can sympathize with their wariness on the subject, though I feel that if the artists wishes to share such things that is their right. Within in reason."
  31. Arkalest "It's more of an, mmh, "once you opened that door" thing."
  32. Sabina "Ah, that's a fair concern." She sips at her tea
  33. Arkalest Irene raises her teacup. "It doesn't help that there's a certain amount of alien artwork that uses the same principles.."
  34. Sabina "Oh? What's it called?"
  35. Arkalest "Phedrian mindcsaping, and I've heard Voraks and Meruzai can do something similar. The current reason for it to be ostracized in some parts of the Core is that it's potentially addictive and very much scarring."
  36. Sabina "And considering what a telepathic attack can do to a person. . The fear is not entirely unwarranted."
  37. Arkalest "Indeed. Right now it's gotten a bit silly, what with a blanket ban on all even vaguely psionics xenoformic art."
  38. Arkalest She looks down. ""Which, well, makes my field of study much more harder to pursue."
  39. Arkalest "For reasons you can pretty much gues."
  40. Sabina "Are there really no avenues of study? While I can understand the prudance of limiting the availability of such items, how can they expect to develop countermeasures or to asses the threat if no studies are allowed?"
  41. Arkalest "There /are/ but they are sort of gated." She crosses her arms. "Like, corporate research teams, high-profile indipendent researchers and whatnot re allowed."
  42. Arkalest "I had to pull my weight to get things assigned to me, it's just- The entry level stuff isn't available."
  43. Sabina nods
  44. Sabina "And, I mean no offense by this, you lack the acknowledgement to gain access to the higher level research I take it?"
  45. Arkalest "Sort of." She handscales.
  46. Arkalest "My family doesn't exactly have a lot of grandstanding with the people who own these sort of things, and I am not exactly in the position to be recognized."
  47. Sabina "May I ask you a more personal question?"
  48. Arkalest She shrugs. "Why not?"
  49. Sabina "Thank you for indulging me, I wanted to ask how your interest in this topic came about. I'd expect most people to shy away from subjects of study that might subject them to telepathic psionic and psionmemetic hazards. I will admit my own interest in the topic, though," She discretely gestures to her wrist "I have a vested interest in the subject as you well know."
  50. Arkalest She closes her eyes. "I was born on Meridian itself, and near my summer house there was this small lake. "
  51. Arkalest "Inside it, there was this coral spire, an Ashen Age biotech construct. It kinda grew over time."
  52. Sabina refills her tea and silently offers a refill to Irene while listening.
  53. Arkalest She nods gratefully. "And well, I kinda liked it. It was a very pretty thing, covered in flowers and growths and I just sort of idly studied it."
  54. Arkalest Then she sighs. "My biological dam noticed that, and she had me take notes on it."
  55. Arkalest "Aaaand I guess the interest just sort of peaked even more when my father brought me to Urkwan, and then to the Terramerene Spire."
  56. Arkalest "Which is this bigass construction on the seafloor."
  57. Sabina "It sounds quite impressive."
  58. Arkalest "It was. You should see it."
  59. Sabina "If I have the opportunity to do so I will."
  60. Arkalest She uncrosses her arms. "It's not exactly a touristy location, and the material's pleasant to look at- Very mausleoum-like."
  61. Sabina nods. "That's good, I'm not a particular fan of crowds."
  62. Arkalest "Well, it'd be hard to get a crowd going there- It's reachable by boat, and then by either staircase or elevator."
  63. Sabina nods, quietly enjoying one of the marmalades on a piece of toast.
  64. Arkalest Sabina It has a flavor halfway between mint and...More mint? Ananas? it's hard to tell..
  65. Arkalest "it's this big armature of black coral growing around a single Ashen Age construction, holding it together, with like- Whole forests of kelp and coral growing out of it."
  66. Sabina "How far down is it in the water? If there's still a fair bit of light it must be quite the sight, though if it's dark I'm certain it cuts a imposing image as well."
  67. Arkalest "There's a fair amount of visibility, and smartcoral is threaded throughout the whole complex it rests on top of- Which is...Well." She looks up. "Imagine something the size of this habitat."
  68. Arkalest "Only underwater, built into the seafloor.
  69. Sabina raises her eyebrows. "That's rather hard for me to imagine, but it sounds impressive, I can scarcely imagine what it's like in person."
