  1. 20:06 < MatthTheGeek> fenrir: what exactly does it tell you when you try to run without the MVPs
  2. 20:06 < fenrir> it says: "error. the pilot savefile for this campaign is invalid for the current mod"
  3. 20:07 < MageKing17> O_o
  4. 20:07 < MageKing17> Have you tried 3.7.2 RC4?
  5. 20:07 -!- NapofDoom is now known as AndrewofDoom
  6. 20:07 < fenrir> not as a popup, but ingame in the tech room and when selecting my pilot
  7. 20:07 < fenrir> no
  8. 20:07 < MageKing17> The tech room? Pilots aren't selected in the tech room...
  9. 20:08 < fenrir> no, before that, just after starting the game
  10. 20:08 < z64555> player selection popup
  11. 20:08 < fenrir> it shows me the message when selecting the pilot and then again when I want to select the missions
  12. 20:09 -!- m|m [~m|m@HSI-KBW-109-192-212-145.hsi6.kabel-badenwuerttemberg.de] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
  13. 20:10 < z64555> Were you playing another mod prior to switching?
  14. 20:10 < fenrir> no, just mediavps, nothing else
  15. 20:10 < z64555> Did you play any missions in the FS2 campaign?
  16. 20:11 < MageKing17> I cannot imagine why that error would be displayed when switching from the MediaVPs to no mods...
  17. 20:11 < z64555> ok, dumb question. sorry
  18. 20:11 <@HerraTohtori> this sounds like a pilot file issue
  19. 20:11 <@HerraTohtori> somehow
  20. 20:12 <@HerraTohtori> might need to create new pilot (clone the existing if you want to preserve your control settings) and then try the mission from the tech room to test if you still get same crash
  21. 20:12 < z64555> probably has to do with how the engine checks the campaign file vs. the selected mod
  22. 20:12 < fenrir> I've had a pilot file issue when I started the game after like 6 missions. had to start all over again
  23. 20:12 < fenrir> but on the second try, I've had no problem up to this point
  24. 20:12 < MageKing17> z64555: The error should only be displayed if the pilot's data is showing as ]invalid], not just because a different mod is selected.
  25. 20:13 < z64555> fenrir: are you sure it was just mediavps and not fsport?
  26. 20:14 * z64555 checks the scrollback for the fs2open.log
  27. 20:14 -!- MatthTheGeek [~MatthTheG@41.112.192.77.rev.sfr.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 200 seconds]
  28. 20:14 < MageKing17> Using FSPort would not cause the pilot file to be invalid.
  29. 20:14 < fenrir> sure
  30. 20:15 -!- Rheyah [Mibbit@cpc4-bagu10-2-0-cust951.1-3.cable.virginm.net] has joined #freespace
  31. 20:15 < z64555> yep, says it right there "-mod MediaVPS_2014"
  32. 20:15 < fenrir> I tried cloning and selecting the mission, but I can't select previously completed missions via the cloned pilot. it's like a newly started campaign...
  33. 20:16 < z64555> aaand, has this been mantis-ed?
  34. 20:16 < MageKing17> fenrir: Go to the tech room, campaign missions, then hit ctrl+shift+s to make them all visible (temporarily).
  35. 20:16 < fenrir> ok
  36. 20:17 < MageKing17> It is possible this is a pilot file bug that was fixed between 3.7.2 RC3 and 3.7.2 RC4.
  37. 20:18 < Hellzed> so, this "invalid pilot file" is a bug. I've been switching campaign and fso builds a lot, and hitting this many times
  38. 20:18 < MageKing17> Hellzed: I have never encountered this, and I've been using the same pilot file with every mod since 3.7.0 was released.
  39. 20:18 < fenrir> that worked but resulted in exactly the same outcome as with the mediavps mod... the game crashed when starting the mission
  40. 20:18 < MageKing17> Hmm.
  41. 20:18 < z64555> I've come across it whenever I switched mods when I still had an active campaign
  42. 20:19 < fenrir> so it isn't the pilot file...
  43. 20:19 < MageKing17> And yet your checksums all match mine.
  44. 20:19 < z64555> this is in addition to the player controls being defaulted here and there
  45. 20:19 -!- MatthTheGeek [~MatthTheG@237.114.192.77.rev.sfr.net] has joined #freespace
  46. 20:21 < fenrir> and it looked different. just like the original fs2. so it surely isn't because of the mod
  47. 20:21 <@HerraTohtori> time to make a debug filter and post a new log?
  48. 20:22 < MageKing17> I also highly recommend using 3.7.2 RC4.
  49. 20:22 < fenrir> yes, as soon as I have "normal" internet next month, I will download it. but I still believe the mod isn't the problem
  50. 20:23 < MageKing17> 3.7.2 RC4 is a newer version of the engine; it has nothing to do with the MediaVPs.
  51. 20:23 < MageKing17> http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=88178
  52. 20:23 < BotenAlfred> Release: 3.7.2 RC4
  53. 20:23 < fenrir> oh yeah, my bad, I forgot
  54. 20:23 < MageKing17> (Or the FSO installer from www.fsoinstaller.com can install it.)
  55. 20:24 < MatthTheGeek> ceramic plates seems to be out of order, got circuit break twice this evening
  56. 20:24 < MatthTheGeek> what did I miss
