- Debates: Round 1. "Should Vilden Be Unbanned?" Stance: "Vilden should remain banned." Team: PonyLove & Bebop
- We believe that vilden should remain banned for several reasons.
- The first reason being that vilden has bypassed numerous suspensions. He was banned from after receiving eight violations and not to be unbanned until all of the violations have expired. During the time he was supposed to be banned, he bypassed an innumerable amount of times and was still allowed to be unbanned on a leash after serving less than eight percent of his ban. After being unbanned and put on a leash, what did he do? He went out and immediately acquired more violations. This shows a clear disrespect for the rules and an unwillingness to participate with the community inside the boundaries of the rules. Why should vilden be unbanned when so many others have done far less than he has and remained banned? It would be incredibly unfair on the rest of the community if vilden is allowed to remain unbanned even after the multiple breaches of the rules he's incurred. You may ask; 'Why vilden?' and the only reasons I can attribute to the supporters of his unban are these two:
- Reason number 1: vilden is popular with some users. This is a factor that shouldn't be taken into consideration when discussing things like this. Essentially, what you're doing when arguing this point is that popular users can break any number of rules they desire to simply because other people like them and wouldn't want them gone from the community. This in turn means that unpopular users will be banned for doing much less wrong than certain popular users. The site doesn't need to turn into a circlejerk where popularity and how many friends you have dictates to what extent the rules apply to you.
- Reason number 2: vilden is a good player. This is, again, a factor that should not be taken into consideration when the extent of the rules are being debated. Much like the reason above, this is saying that players who are good at the game can get away with whatever they like because the community doesn't want to potentially lose a good player. This also means that newer players or players who aren't as good will be punished more severely simply because they don't have as much experience, time to dedicate to the game, or overall knowledge.
- So essentially, with the intent of keeping this site fair and equal for all users, vilden should remain banned just like everybody else should who has broken enough rules to be punished as such.
- The second reason we believe that vilden should remain banned is his incredibly abrasive personality and bigotry towards a number of different denominations, primarily homosexuals. I understand that vilden may not agree with homosexuality and that's his opinion, but bringing it to the extents he has is entirely unnecessary and creates a hostile environment for other members of the community which should not be tolerated on the site. I'm not trying to say that the site should turn into a hyper-policed safe space, but that it should care about the wellbeing of its users to an extent. The site isn't as harshly moderated as it once was, that's true, and in that harshly moderated state vilden quite possibly received some violations that weren't up to the standard we'd give them out at now, but people should understand that it was still against the rules to do that back then, and he made the decision to break the rules then. Using slurs in general is entirely different to repeatedly using them after people have expressed their evident discomfort at his use of the words.
- In closing, you may hear other opinions being shared around this thread tonight, but largely all the opposing opinions will remain the same. Our opponents will try to claim that vilden should be allowed back on the site because others have been unbanned for doing much worse. But I ask you; Do you really want another case of someone being unbanned unjustly? Do you think it'd be fair to the rest of the community to essentially condone the amount of rule breakage vilden has done? Do you truly think if vilden is unbanned he'll change his ways? Look at the history here. Vilden has been unbanned before, several times in fact, and every single time he hasn't shown a single iota of regret or remorse for his previous ways, and in fact, he continues to act in the exact same way that got him banned. Would you like to know how simple it is to go without slurring? Just reread this entire post, I've not slurred once. It's inanely easy to use other words or convey your opinions in a different way, but he continues to choose to break the rules, knowing full well the consequences of his actions.
- We believe in this site. We believe in it's people. We think the community can be a whole lot better than this.
