  1. !!!! WARNING: This document is a WIP (Work in Progress). Message the author, Calliope, about any suggestions or required changes or new stuff, please. Thank you so much!
  2.
  3. Yo, potentially new room Operator from #theunmutedroom! Here's some "quick" tips and stuff to advice and stuff:
  4. (Yeah, I don't need to make it as formal as the rules one.)
  5.
  6. !!!! GUIDELINES !!!!
  7. !! IMPORTANT !! Be in #unmuteadmin at ALL times you're as OP in the unmuted room, and keep any OP dialogue out of the #unmutedroom and in the admin room, PLEASE.
  8.
  9. - This is a really stressing job, so if you need a break or a stealth de-OP just message Callie, nobody will blame you. We're all here to support each other as well. We're family, that's what I'm getting at.
  10. - Do take being an OP serious, you're supposed to keep order in the chat when you're around. So, don't abuse your powers and help users when you can but PLEASE don't force your time or fun away because of being an OP, you're still part of the community!
  11. -- In sum: help when you can (when you're on the chat with free time), don't force yourself to be here otherwise.
  12. - It goes without saying, but you aren't above the law: OPs should also follow the rules, and if anything, have to be extra strict on themselves (be extra careful about triggering others). We're giving the example to everyone else!
  13. -- However, the worse you can do when doing a mistake is freaking out about it; if something happens, breathe and continue on, do not let yourself guilt-trip yourself about it. Accidents happen! What matters is how you deal with it afterwards, and with a smile and a apology is the best way possible.
  14. -
  15.
  16.
  17.
  18. Q) So what are my powers, my liege?
  19. Not only you have a place of prestige on the user list (should help people listen >-<), you should also have these following powers:
  20. - Change the topic
  21. - OP users
  22. - Voice users
  23. - Kick users
  24. - Mute (quiet) users
  25. - Mute the chat
  26. - Ban users
  27. Notice that you really shouldn't ban people, leave that to Callie/Calliope. Not only it is a mess, it should be the last resort possible.
  28. And before I continue, you really ONLY need to know how to kick people. All the others are for special occasions or more advanced, so don't be afraid if you don't understand well or fear using them (better not to use than to do it wrongly). Still, ask for help around if you need it!
  29. ( <> means required, [] means optional bellow. do not include them in the command itself! )
  30.
  31.
  32. Q) What is/How change topic?
  33. The topic is that message that shows up when you login in the room, and in the top of the chatroom (well, it SHOULD be there, stupid pesterchum layout...). I don't suggest messing much with the topic, BUT you can freely add tidbits to the end, like "Happy birthday person!" or anything you fancy. Basically, remember that's our welcome message to other users so doing a prank there is an awful idea e.e
  34. Command is:
  35. /topic <topic>
  36. (example: /topic This is a new topic, yey!).
  37.
  38. The default topic, as of this moment, is:
  39. "Hey everybody, welcome to our Homestuck RP chat. Do read http://pastebin.com/SUdy3Jv5 for the rules, but basically: Don't spam, don't trigger people and do fights at #fightroom, and above all, have fun! ♥".
  40.
  41. The heart is optional but a necessary cute.
  42.
  43.
  44. Q) What is/How OP user?
  45. Making someone an OP is... uh, making someone like yourself. Duh.
  46. You REALLY shouldn't be doing this unless you REALLY trust this person and see no OP will stay on for a good period of time.
  47. It's a rather easy command though:
  48. /op <person>
  49. (example: /op Calliope).
  50. Notice that this isn't the permanent OP, as in, if they log out they lose the OP. For that, ask Callie for it.
  51.
  52.
  53. Q) What is/How voice user?
  54. Giving someone voice only does two things: give them a star next to the name and make the person immune to mutes, both user and room (see bellow). Before, SOME voices (it required some chat magic) could also kick users, but now everyone that could kick people are OP so that's a thing of the past. Basically, give voice as a reward to users or to make them feel better :3
  55. Rather easy command as well:
  56. /voice <person>
  57. (example: /voice Calliope).
  58. Like OP above, this isn't permanent voice, ask Callie for it.
  59.
  60.
  61. Q) What is/How kick?.
  62. Kicking an user forces them to leave the chat. Think of it as kicking someone out of a room: nothing is stopping them from re-entering, but sometimes people need the fresh air.
  63. Command is:
  64. /kick <person> [reason]
  65. (example: /kick Callie You're being kinda rude, please stop)
  66. When you kick someone, always try to say why in the reason. Helps people not having a reason to say they didn't know why they were kicked.
  67.
  68. Tip: If you press Tab (that key above Caps lock with the two arrows), pesterchum autocompletes the name! So if you need to kick someone named Calliope, sometimes all you have to do is /kick C *press tab*. Press tab several times (or type more than one letter) if there's several people starting by the same letter.
  69.
  70.
  71. Q) What is/How mute person?
  72. Okay first of all, this uses hostmasks (I'll try to explain it bellow), so it's kinda complicated.
  73. Muting a person makes them unable to talk in chat. This won't work on voiced or OPed people, fair warning. Also doesn't prevent them from PMing individual users.
  74. Command is:
  75. /mode +q <hostmask>
  76. (example: /mode +q Callie!*@*).
  77. To remove a mute (official name is quiet, hence the q), do the EXACT SAME command but use -q instead (or ask Callie):
  78. /mode -q <hostmask>
  79. (example: /mode -q Callie!*@*).
  80.
  81.
  82. Q) What is/How mute room?
  83. Like a quiet above, it makes people unable to talk... but it hits ALL the room. Taking into account we're called the UNMUTED room, this is not a tool to use often, only use it in dire need >_<
  84. Command is simple, just do:
  85. /mode +m
  86. To disable the room mute (make so people can talk normally again, do it as fast as possible), do:
  87. /mode -m
  88.
  89.
  90. Q) What is/How ban user?
  91. Banning an user basically means they cannot re-enter the room. Notice that this does not make a person leave the room, use kick for that instead (so technically, you should be doing a kickban: ban then kick the idiot).
  92. Bans are a mess as they use hostmasks, which are cumbersome and can hit several users if not careful... so really, leave the bans to Callie in last resort. You really shouldn't need to do them any time soon.
  93. Command is:
  94. /ban <hostmask> [reason]
  95. (example: /ban Callie!*@* I am so SICK of you).
  96. If you want to unban a person (remove the ban), do the EXACT SAME command but with /unban:
  97. /unban <person> [reason]
  98. (example: /unban Callie!*@* I'm sorry).
  99. You can also do this with /mode +b and /mode -b, respectively.
  100.
  101.
  102. Q) Any other commands we should know?
  103. -- TO BE DONE --
  104.
  105.
  106.
  107. !!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
  108. Q) Okay, people are breaking the rules. What do?
  109. Well, first, be cordial and point them to the rules, give emotional support if needed. Sometimes people are just upset (with good reason!) and aren't thinking, assume the best on people... at first. If the chat is moving too fast, I suggest (and really, do it whenever you can) to PM them said warnings.
  110. If they keep doing the bad thing, issue kicks. Again, a kick only makes them leave the room, so it's nothing severe, don't be afraid to use them. But do always have a good reason (literally, put the reason in the kick command as said above) for them.
  111. If this continues, mutes and bans can follow, but be careful with these.
  112. So in summary, warn whenever possible, and kick if they basically go "lalala not listening".
  113.
  114. Notice: Sudden spam should be an instant kick; someone saying something there and there should be taken as a normal rule-break, but if someone starts dumping a ton of quick text in chat, kill it before it gets bad!
  115.
  116.
  117. !!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
  118. Q) Someone is sending rude/triggering PM to someone! What do?
  119. Well, in this case bans won't help. Even if the person is out of the room, they still can PM the victim.
  120. Here's what you do:
  121. - First, message (PM) the spammed person to do two things:
  122. -- To leave ##pesterchum (close the tab by clicking the X near the name of that channel);
  123. -- Get ready to change their name with /nick <newName> (example: /nick Calliope). Tell them to NOT do it yet, to type the command and to press enter on your mark.
  124. - If the unruly person is still online on #theunmutedroom, kickban the idiot. Best to just kick if you feel unsure about the command, but be extra quick if so.
  125. - Finally, tell the victim to change their name (press enter) that exact moment AFTER the kick.
  126.
  127. This works because you can still PM people without you two being in the same room. Now, changing your name normally doesn't do anything; if you are sharing a room with whoever you are sending PMs to, your client PMs the new name automatically. By making sure the victim and the offender don't share rooms (neither unmuted or ##), when they change name the offender will keep sending PMs to the old name, unaware of the name change. And as such, "fixing" the issue.
  128.
  129.
  130. Q) What is a hostmask?
  131. -- TO BE DONE --
  132.
  133.
  134. Q) How do I register my name? ( !!!! Important for new OPs !!!! )
  135. -- TO BE DONE, but basically do "/ns help register" and follow what it says, you'll need an email, ask Callie if you don't have one or can't have one for extra help --
  136.
  137.
  138.
  139. OP LIST + Timezone (and usual hours online):
  140. · [Founder] MaryamLipstick (rarely)
  141. - don't ping her or try to talk to her at random, she's a busy person :\
  142. · [SOP] Calliope / Dustine (GMT)
  143. - the self-titled "begrudgingly maintainer of the chat". Talks too much.
  144. · [SOP] Callie (always on, watching, planning your demise)
  145. - the logging "robot" that Calliope owns. It reads all, and receives all privates messages towards it (Calliope reads them... eventually >_<). Essentially, also Calliope; if Calliope is on, message her, not Callie.
  146. · Salt
  147. - also a busy person, used to be the covert OP and then Callie screwed that up >_<
  148. · gallowsCallibrator
  149. · testiclas
  150. · [SOP] Davette (GMT-6)
  151. · Dave_sprite
  152. · arachnidsGrip
  153. · KARKATVANTAS
  154. · adave / adavestrider (GMT-5)
  155. · carcinoGeneticist
  156. · gAmZeE
  157. · spaceoutDreamer
  158. · Cat_Girl_Techno_Theft
  159. · unusualOdyssey
  160.
  161. Message Calliope if you want your name removed from the list, or any additional ones added. Also message her to say your timezone and what hours/days you're usually on, if you wish to have them displayed here.
  162.
  163. Q) What is SOP?
  164. Special OP, basically they can set the permanent voice/op things beyond the normal OP things. Nothing special, just means they are the ones to contact if that's needed.
