  1. Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition
  2. "Selected Restrictions" rules
  3.
  4. BANNED:
  5. - Save glitches (saving and reloading to skip or regain control during a cutscene)
  6. - Save anywhere (storing the ability menu and learning an ability to save without a Soul Link)
  7. - Save drops (saving in midair to respawn Ori on lower ground)
  8. - Teleport anywhere (storing the teleport menu to teleport without a Spirit Well)
  9. - Keystone duplication (dying at a specific point to cause keystones to respawn in the world and in your inventory)
  10. - Double bashing (performing two Bashes two frames apart on the same enemy to follow it in midair)
  11. - Out of bounds (anything that places Ori outside the clearly defined physical boundaries of the game world)
  12. - Clipping through any solid object or boundary
  13. - Using Bash, Dash, or Charge Dash to pass through any laser, lava, or other instant kill obstacle
  14. - Door warping (entering a door on the first frame after loading the game)
  15. - Rocket jumping (canceling a Charge Dash with a jump to preserve extreme vertical speed)
  16. - Perfect Bashing (rapidly changing your Bash angle right before releasing to fly in the same direction as your target)
  17. - Ghost door glitch (saving after depositing all keystones in a key door, then dying to cause it to temporarily despawn)
  18. - Hyperspeed saves (saving during a Dash, Charge Jump, or Charge Dash, causing Ori to retain the speed for a significant distance after respawning)
  19. - Free teleport (dying right after initiating a teleport so that you may gain control of Ori before the teleport completes)
  20. - Warp displacement (teleporting from a moving physics object so that Ori ends up in a different destination than the intended one)
  21. - Using Bash to interact with lanterns, projectiles, or enemies after triggering a cutscene
  22. - Grenade jumps (triggering a Light Burst, then a wall Charge Jump the next frame)
  23.
  24. ALLOWED:
  25. - Bash gliding (preserving the horizontal speed of a Bash by releasing all directional input)
  26. - Air Dash gliding (preserving increased horizontal speed after a Bash glide by Dashing)
  27. - Ground Dash gliding (same idea as Bash gliding, but with Dash on the ground followed by a jump)
  28. - Disabling the UI (press alt-U)
  29. - Moving enemies into advantageous positions using normal movement or Bash
  30. - Using enemy projectiles or something other than the intended means (e.g. Stomp) to break a barrier
  31. - Manipulating a level up to achieve a timely health/energy refill or damage enemies
  32. - Taking advantage of the invulnerability period after respawning
  33. - Canceling Charge Dash with a bash, stomp, intentional damage, slowdown/cutscene trigger, or other means to refund the energy
  34. - Using Bash, Dash, or Charge Dash to pass through a cutscene trigger
  35.
  36. Will add notes to this if questions arise.
  37.
  38. Q: What is the overall goal of these rules?
  39. A: These rules were originally created for the "glitchless" category. Thus, the overall intent is to create a category that uses what we consider to be intended play *mechanics*, while not necessarily being constrained to complete the game in the intended *order*. Ultimately, however, a significant aspect of these rules is that the category must be fun to run, and as such we renamed it "Selected Restrictions" to reflect the fact that we select the restrictions according to community consensus on whether a given trick/glitch/exploit makes the category better or worse.
  40.
  41. Q: What happens if I accidentally violate any of these rules? Is my run immediately invalid?
  42. A: Depends on the violation and what happens as a result. If you manage not to obtain any advantage from the accidental violation, it may be allowed. If you perform a double bash, for example, but aim the same direction twice, then that would be okay. If the violation gives you an immediate advantage or obviously changes how you would progress through the game, then yeah, your run is invalid.
  43.
  44. Q: Why is bashing/dashing/cdashing through a cutscene trigger allowed, but not through a laser?
  45. A: As a community we determined that passing through a laser appears more obviously against the spirit of the category than passing through a cutscene trigger.
