- There was no way I could roll back to dodge it, so I jumped instead. My swords retracted and swung down below me as I clapped my hands. There wasn’t a source of fire outside my body to draw on, but there was a source of heat. The halogen lights above me that exuded warmth, so I could draw the potential energy from the city’s power grid.
- At least, I hoped I could.
- The lights along the road above me shone brightly. One by one, I heard them explode. Finally, there was the last light above me, shining with more light than it ever had before. It was as though I had brought forth the sun. Scar dodged my swords easily enough, reaching up to strike me with his hand.
- His eyes went wide behind his sunglasses. And in the light produced above me, how much energy was I gathering? I wondered: How much potential energy existed in a city grid? Enough that when the light above me exploded, all that energy came down in a swarm of electrified fire – all that power surrounded me.
