a dream

she wiped away his tears and asked softly, "why are you crying?"
through his sobs, all he could say was "i don't know..."
his cries turned manic, hysterical. she asked with confusion, "why are you laughing?"
he looked at her and couldn't stop. all he could say was "i don't know!"
she held him until he fell asleep and was gone when he awoke.
