　ゲルブ族との会談が終わり、やれやれこれで一息つけると迎えた朝。
The negotiations with the Gerb Tribe had ended, and I can finally take a breather as I greeted the morning.

　ヤクゥが見たことがないくらい上機嫌で家の掃除をしていた。
And then there was Yakuu who was cleaning the house in high spirits which I had never seen before.

「ヤクゥ、何か良い事でもあった？」
“Yakuu, you’re in such a good mood, did something good happen recently?” (Hibiki)

「うん、もうすぐ兄ちゃんが帰って来るから」
“Yeah, onii-chan will come back home soon.” (Yakuu)

「そ、そうだったな。無事に帰って来たら、また広場で宴会だな」
“Th-that’s right. When they come home safely, we will have a party together at the plaza.” (Hibiki)

「本当！？私、準備とか頑張るよ！！」
“Really!? I will do my best to help with the preparations!!” (Yakuu)

「ああ、楽しみにしてるよ」
“Sure, I will look forward to your help.” (Hibiki)

　ヤクゥはまた嬉しそうに掃除を再開した。
After she said that, she resumed her cleaning work.

「ヤバイ、忘れてた」
“Crap, I forgot about it.” (Hibiki)

　早足でエミィに確認に行く。
He rushed to meet Amy to confirm it.

「そうですね、予定通りなら今日の夕方には着くんじゃないですか？」
“Let’s see, if there is no delay, they will arrive around evening today, I think?” (Amy)

　もちろんエミィは覚えていた。あんなに色々あったのによく覚えていられるものだ。
Amy hadn’t forgotten about it. Even after a lot of things happened, she hadn’t forgotten.

　エミィと相談し、帰還を祝う宴会を催す事になった。
After I discussed the matter with Amy, we decided to hold a party to celebrate their return.

Welburg, Adventurer’s Guild
=====

　その日の夕方、予定通りに『ゴブリン運送』の馬車が帰って来た。
That evening, the “Goblin Transport” arrived as scheduled.

　契約の関係で直接冒険者ギルドに向かうはずなので、そわそわしているヤクゥを連れて冒険者ギルド前で待っていた。
They must stop by the Adventurer’s Guild first to give their report, so I took Yakuu who couldn’t hide her excitement to wait for them in front of the Adventurer’s Guild.

「ただいま、ヤクゥ！！」
“I’m home, Yakuu!!” (Sai)

「お帰り、兄ちゃん！！」
“Welcome back onii-chan!!” (Yakuu)

　この兄妹の兄妹愛は、微笑ましいものがある。
Their sibling love could make your heart warm and fuzzy.

　飛び込んでいくヤクゥをしっかりと受け止めるサイ。なぜか周りから拍手があがり、涙ぐんでいる人達までいる。
Sai firmly caught Yakuu who leapt at him. For some reason the crowd applauded upon that scene, some of them cried in joy.

　いや、まあなぜか俺までうるっときてしまったが。
Well, my tears began to well up as well.

「ご苦労様、サイ」
“Good work out there, Sai.” (Hibiki)

「おう、ヒビキ。無事戻ってきたぜ。というか、本当になにもしてねぇや俺」
“Oh, Hibiki. I come back in one piece. Or rather, I didn’t do anything out there actually.” (Sai)

　どうも、護衛に選んだゴブリンたちは優秀過ぎたようだ。馬車にモンスターや盗賊を近づけさせる事もなく撃退していたようだ。
Of course, the goblins I picked for guards were excellent. They won’t let monsters nor bandits near the carriage.

「ぜひとも、次も『ゴブリン運送うち』を使いたいって奴らが結構いてな、街での商人との攻防のほうが疲れたよ」
“There are a lot of customers who look forward to using our ‘Goblin Transport’ next time, I was more tired out by battling it out with the merchants.” (Sai)

　どうやら、次の仕事も決まったようだ。ウェフベルクからの荷物も錬金術師ギルドにほとんど抑えられているので、いつでも出発できるだろう。
It seems our next job had been decided. The luggage from Welburg was mainly stored at the Alchemist’s Guild, so we could depart at any time we wanted.

「色々、話したいこともあるが、それは村で聞くことにするよ」
“I bet you have a lot to talk about, I’ll hear it in the village later.” (Hibiki)

「そうしてくれ、今日はゆっくり風呂に入って疲れを癒したいよ」
“That would be great, I want to relax in the bath today to ease my fatigue.” (Sai)

　サイは、馬車の中も悪くは無いんだけど、風呂→ベッドの連携技には抗えんからな、と笑っている。
Sai said that the inside of the carriage was not bad, but he couldn’t resist the combination of a bath and bed and then laughed.

「そうか、ゆっくり休んで、」
“I see, then go ahead and rest…” (Hibiki)

「兄ちゃん、背中流してあげるから！！」
“Nii-chan, I will wash your back!!” (Yakuu)

　俺のセリフを遮るようにヤクゥがサイに話しかける。
Yakuu said that to Sai while interrupting me.

「い、いや、大丈夫だぞ」
“N-no, I’m good.” (Sai)

「でも、兄ちゃん疲れてるんでしょ？」
“But, you are tired right nii-chan?” (Yakuu)

「あ、ああ、そうだけど」
“W-well, yeah, I am tired.” (Sai)

「じゃあやっぱり背中流すよ！！」
“Then let me wash your back!!” (Yakuu)

　ヤクゥは、食事状況も改善されたため出会った頃に比べてかなりふっくらしてきた。
Because the meal situation had improved, Yakuu had become more plump compared to before.

　もちろん、10歳と言う年齢の割にはと言うことだが。
But of course, it was within the normal range for a 10 year old child.

　さらに、毎日風呂に入り小奇麗になり今日は可愛らしいスカートを履いているので、もう誰もヤクゥを男と間違えることは無いだろう。
Moreover, she took a bath everyday and had become pretty. She wore a cute skirt today, so with this nobody would mistake her as a boy.

　とはいえ、風呂が一般にはほとんど普及していないこの世界において『背中流す』は、セーフだ。
It also should be noted that “washing one’s back” in this world where a bathing custom was not well-known, was a SFW event.

　周りの観客達の頭の中には、『平桶の中で座り込んだ裸のサイ』と『手桶で兄に水をかけて背中を流す服を着たヤクゥ』が投影されているはずだ。
I bet everyone imagined a “naked Sai sitting in the bathtub” and “Yakuu with clothes sitting on the tub’s side washing Sai’s back”.

　それは、今見た兄妹の感動の再会の続きでしかない。
That was just the continuation of the touching reunion of siblings.

“Isn’t that great! Get your back washed properly by your little sister.” (crowd)

「まったく、兄貴思いの妹じゃねぇか」
“What a wonderful little sister who cares about her big brother.” (crowd)

　まさに外堀から埋められていく状態となった。
Sai will get crushed by the opinions from the crowd.

「い、いや、でも」
“N-no, but.” (Sai)

　最後の抵抗をするサイだったが、
It was Sai’s last effort of resistance…

「兄ちゃん、私の事きらいになった？」
“Nii-chan, do you hate me now?”

　涙目のヤクゥのこのセリフに無条件降伏することとなった。
And thus Sai surrendered unconditionally to this line Yakuu said with teary eyes.

「良かったじゃないか、サイ」
“Aren’t you glad Sai?” (?)

　馬車から降りて来たのは、俺の知っている顔だった。
I know the face of the man who came out from the carriage.

「やあヒビキ、久しぶりだね」
“Yo Hibiki, long time no see.” (?)

「ルクス！？」
“Lux!?” (Hibiki)

　勇者候補、ハイルクス・ブレイブハートはひらひらと手を振り、俺に笑顔を向けるのであった。
It was Hylux Braveheart, the Hero candidate, who waved his hand and smiled towards me.

Goblin Village
=====

　俺と別れてからのルクスは噂で聞いた通り、ブレト防衛戦でまさに一騎当千の働きだったらしい。
After we parted with Lux, I heard rumors about his one-man-army achievement when protecting Brett Town.

　モンスターとの戦闘が沈静化してからは本人の希望と教会の思惑からバーラとセイラ、両方の勇者候補としてブレトの街の復興の旗印にされていたようだ。
After the incident, as per his request and the Church’s will, he became the symbol of the town’s revival and the Hero candidate of Baara and Seira.

　そのためについたあだ名が『双天勇者』と言うらしい。
And because of that he has been called the “Twin Sky Hero”.

　バーラは選定神官ではなかったはずだが、何かあったのだろう。
Though Baara wasn’t supposed to be a selection priest, there must be something going on here.

　あだ名うんぬんはサイが教えてくれた。本人は非常に嫌そうな顔をしていたが。
Sai told me about this. Though the person in question had a sour face when I talked about that topic.

　装備も、レザーアーマーから金属製の鎧に変わっていた。
His equipment changed from leather armor to a metal-based armor now.

　なんでも、教会が聖別した銀を使って製作した鎧らしい。
It was said to be made of sacred silver that was sanctified by the Church.

「さすがに、オリハルコン製の鎧は正式な勇者になってからだって言われたよ。別に欲しいなんて言って無いんだけどね」
“They will give the orichalcum armor to me after I officially become the Hero. I never asked for one though.” (Lux)

　『光の銀』は、プール草のように光魔法を纏った銀を加工した物らしい。
“Silver of Light” is like the pool grass, silver that has absorbed light magic.

「それで、『ブレトの英雄』がどうしてこっちに戻ってきたんだ？しかも1人で」
“And then? What is the ‘Hero of Brett’ doing here on his own?” (Hibiki)

「君だって、『ウェフベルクの英雄』だろ？」
“You’re one to talk, aren’t you also the ‘Hero of Welburg’?” (Lux)

　笑顔で答えるルクス。じろっと睨むと肩をすくめて語り始めた。
Lux said with a smile on his face. After I glared at him, he shrugged his shoulders and began to talk.

「近いうちにブレトで御前試合があるんだ。その試合に勇者候補が数人参加する」

「へぇ、お前も参加するんだよな？」
“Hmm, you’re gonna participate in that contest?” (Hibiki)

「ああ。ヒビキ、君も参加しないか？」
“Yeah. Hibiki, will you participate in that contest?” (Lux)

「脈絡がなさすぎるだろ」
“Excuse me?” (Hibiki)

「そもそも、この御前試合。未だに正式な勇者が現れない事に焦った王族が開催しているらしいんだ」
“In the first place, this royal contest is being held because the Hero has not been chosen yet and the royals are impatient by that fact.” (Lux)

　つまり、現状で最有力のルクスがいるブレトで御前試合を行って無視できないような状態に追い込むのが狙いか。
In other words, this contest was held to give pressure to Lux who had the most power in Brett.

　しかし、他の候補者も捨てがたいので試合には参加させるわけだ。
However, it was a waste to throw away all the other candidates, so they might as well participate in the contest.

「そんな試合になんで俺が参加しなきゃいけないんだ？」
“Why must I participate in that contest, huh?” (Hibiki)

「それこそ、愚問だろ？　君はウェフベルクの危機を未然に察知してここに残り、その危機を撃破している」
“Isn’t that obvious? You are the one who predicted the peril of Welburg and decided to stay here, then proceeded to resolve it.” (Lux)

　いや、それは偶々だ。ブレトのほうが大変そうだったからこっちに残ったんだよ。
No, that was just a coincidence. I thought it would be a pain in the ass in Brett, so I decided to stay in Welburg.

「それに、街に侵入した魔族を見つけ出しその魔族も倒している」
“Also, you found a demon who infiltrated the city and defeated it.” (Lux)

　倒してないぞ。封印しただけだ。まだ生きてる。
I DIDN’T defeat him. I just SEALED him. He was still ALIVE.

「それに、サイに聞いた話じゃ差別に苦しむヴァンパイアを保護したそうじゃないか」
“Also, I heard from Sai, you took custody of the vampires who had suffered discrimination.” (Lux)

　保護と言うか、勝手についてきたからこき使っているというか。
Rather than took custody, they just followed me on their own, or rather I used them at my disposal.

「村にはリザードマンまでいた。彼らは気難しい事で有名な種族のはずだ」
“And you got Lizardmen in your village too. I heard they are famous for being a species that are hard to please.” (Lux)

　それも、あちらからコンタクトを取ってきたのだが。
That too, they were the ones who approached me first.

「別に勇者候補として参加してくれなくてもいい。他の勇者候補にヒビキのすごさを知って欲しいんだ」
“You don’t have to participate as a Hero candidate. I just want the other Hero candidates to know how amazing you are.” (Lux)

　そんな試合に参加して、勇者候補にされたらどうするんだ。
Participating in that contest, what if they decided to appoint me as a Hero candidate.

「そんな試合に出てもメリットが無いよ」
“There is no merit in me participating in that contest.” (Hibiki)

「そう言うと思ったんだ。試合で上位に入ったら王国秘蔵のアイテムを進呈するって話だよ」
“I thought you would say that. If you are able to place in the top ranks, they will give you the Kingdom’s treasure.” (Lux)

　大会優勝者には、聖剣　希望の光ライトオブホープ。
The winner will be given the Holy Sword, Light of Hope.

　準優勝者には、竜殺しの剣。
The runner-up will be given the Dragon Slayer Sword.

　第3位には、星くずの指輪。
3rd place will be given the Ring of Stardust.

　4～8位に金貨30枚が与えられるらしい。
4th~8th place will be given 30 pieces of gold.

「星くずの指輪？」
“Ring of Stardust?” (Hibiki)

「あれ？そっちに食いついた？」
“Hm? That’s what caught your interest?” (Lux)

「いや、優勝、準優勝が剣で3位は指輪なのかと思ってな」
“Nah, I just thought it was weird that the winner and runner-up got a sword, but 3rd place got a ring.” (Hibiki)

「ああ、そうか。なんでも持ち主に無限の力を与えるらしいよ」
“I see. I heard the ring will grant the wearer infinite power.” (Lux)

　なんとかごまかせた。しかし、『星くずの指輪』は、欲しい。
I dodged the bullet just now. But, I want this “Ring of Stardust”.

　ジルの事件の時に『星くずのペンダント』を手に入れた時は偶然だと思ったが、こうも続けざまに俺の前に現れるのはなにかあるのだろう。
I thought it was a coincidence for me to get the Pendant of Stardust during that incident with Zir, but with how they kept popping up before me I wonder if there was something to this.

　なにかあるらしい。
There does seem to be something going on.

　とは言え、普通に参加して目をつけられるのも嫌だな。
But again, I hadn’t wanted to attract attention by participating in this contest.

　参加するにしても何か考えなくては。
I must think of something for this.
