- 0:10 Hello everybody my name is Remco
- 0:12 and I am one of the developers at Triangle studios.
- 0:15 We've been working on a game called cross the Dutchman.
- 0:18 In this video I'm going to tell you a little bit more
- 0:20 about the history of which this game is based.
- 0:22 As some of you may know cross of the Dutchman
- 0:26 is based on the folk legend of Pier Gerlofs Donia.
- 0:28 Pier was a wealthy hard-working (FIXME) Friesian farmer
- 0:33 from the village of Kimswerd
- 0:34 A village that still exists today
- 0:39 Pier was known for his size.
- 0:40 He was a true gaint with formidable strength
- 0:45 stories go that Pier was able to lift a horse on his shoulders
- 0:48 and that he killed five Saxon soldiers with a single blow
- 0:51 not a blow from his fists or sword mind you a blow with a plow
- 0:54 It's these kind of stories that made sure that even today
- 0:59 most children who live in (FIXME) Frija know who Pier is
- 1:02 in the early 16th century (FIXME) Frija was overrun by many different groups of soldiers
- 1:08 often supported by mercenaries who fought for whoever paid the most of any given day
- 1:13 As for Pier he got into trouble with the Saxons
- 1:17 after his family was murdered by mercenaries and the
- 1:20 village of Kimswerd was burned to the ground.
- 1:22 Pier established a band of mercenaries himself
- 1:25 under the name the (FIXME) (Isle of black heap?).
- 1:27 Supported by the Duke of Gelders
- 1:30 he was able to fight many successful battles on land and sea
- 1:34 against opponents who were often in far greater numbers, and better organized.
- 1:39 It was these actions that cement the Pier's name in history
- 1:43 as the leader of a rebel army and liberator of (FIXME) Frija.
- 1:47 Finally Pier was buried in the city of (FIXME) Snake
- 1:50 His tomb is located in the 15th century (FIXME) Through De'Gerik
- 1:54 At the time of his death Pier was only forty years old.
- 1:57 even now after his death many people had not forgotten about (FIXME) (some guttural honorism? non-Natural transcriber) Pierd.
- 2:02 In his time Pier was a brute, a mercenary, and a ruthless commander of an army vigilantes.
- 2:10 Today people see Pier as a hero who fought for the freedom of his country
- 2:14 so now you know a little bit more about the history behind Cross of the Dutchman
- 2:18 the game itself is coming out in September 10th on Steam
