  1. The Red Marble Fountain
  2.
  3. Foreword:
  4.
  5. Only after finishing the Anon‘s Ladder story did I realize how truly dark and depressing that story really is. While I don’t necessarily consider that to be a bad thing, I began conceiving what I consider to be the other side of the same coin. I Started working on this story in May of 2012 and am finally releasing it now.
  6.
  7. While the story itself isn’t -extraordinary- long, (roughly 17 pages of 12 font, certainly not a short) I spent months go over it ad nauseam until I was completely satisfied with it. Without giving too much away; I didn’t want it to feel rushed but I didn’t want it to drag, I wanted it to be lighthearted but I also wanted the character‘s to face conflicts, I didn’t want to make it too serious or too silly, I wanted it to be romanticized but I didn’t want it to read like a personal fantasy etc.
  8.
  9. To make it an easier read on my readers, I decided to write this story in a more common manner instead of my signature “One action per one line. use ‘you‘, ‘your‘, and ‘you’re‘ as little as possible. Emphasize more so the character‘s actions than their thoughts and feelings”- style. Also, I’d like to confess now that I straight up took Part 1 of this story from another one I had written under a different name back before AIE threads were introduced (What can I say, I liked it that much). Lo and Behold. I present; The Red Marble Fountain
  10.
  11. Part 1
  12.
  13. >You’re At home with Rarity
  14. >She’s getting your measurements for a suit
  15. >“I think that will do, Darling.”
  16. Alright, I’ll See you soon.
  17. >She leaves
  18. >There is a knock on the door a few minutes later
  19. Forget somethi-
  20. >Oh, its Fluttershy
  21. >“Hello, Anon”
  22. >sigh
  23. Hello, Fluttershy.
  24. >“I heard there was a ball being held in your honor in Canterlot tomorrow.”
  25. Yes, We’re celebrating the third anniversary of my arrival in Equestria. Do you know what that means?
  26. >“N-no?”
  27. >your irritation starts to boil over
  28. It means you’ve been coming up with some asinine scheme to find my fetish every single day FOR THREE YEARS!!! Haven’t you ran out of ideas yet?! Don’t you ever get tired of this?! Don’t you want to quit!?!
  29. >she smiles
  30. >“Nope.”
  31. WAT
  32. >“Well the rejection does hurt but I’m never going to give up. No matter how long it takes, No matter what happens, I‘ll still try to find a way to win you over. Even If I run out of ideas for fetishes I’ll just have to take a different approach. Even if you find a way back to your world I’ll still keep a hope in my heart of hearts that I can be with you in some way.
  33. >you look into her eyes and reflect on what she just said
  34. >the irritation fades slightly and you let out a deep exhale
  35. Do you REALLY like me that much?
  36. >she smiles again
  37. >“Of course I do.”
  38. >Endure a moment of silence before you hesitantly ask the following question
  39. Okay then, if that’s truly how you feel; how would you like to be my date tomorrow for the ball?
  40. >she squees with joy
  41. >“Oh! Really!? I think that would be wonderful!”
  42. BUT! Only under the following 2 conditions.
  43. >“yes?”
  44. One: Don’t make me regret it.
  45. Two: Find Derpy and Tell her that I won’t be able to go with her tomorrow. If necessary, see her through any hard feelings she has.
  46. >“Wha? Why Derpy?”
  47. I have my reasons, now go get ready. I’ll pick you up tomorrow a little after sundown.
  48. >“Thank you, Anon.”
  49. >She hugs you and runs off
  50.
  51.
  52. >Tomorrow evening comes
  53. >You’re Riding in a carriage en route to Fluttershy’s whilst Wearing the suit made by Rarity
  54. >Along with a rather sarcastic, arrogant composure
  55. >as you Approach Fluttershy’s house you see her waiting outside in her formal dress
  56. >As you proceed to help her into the cabin, You’re unsure if you should be impressed by her resolve or embarrassed at what a pushover she is
  57. You look wonderful.
  58. >she actually does
  59. >“Thank you Anon, so do you”
  60. >you smile as the carriage heads off to Canterlot
  61. This probably isn‘t the best way to start the evening but…How Did Derpy take it?
  62. >“after I told her the news she said ‘Whose Anon?’”
  63. >you burst out laughing
  64. Okay…I guess that one solved itself. So why did you come to my house yesterday?
  65. >“I was going to ask about a fetish.”
  66. Which one?
  67. >“Itching”
  68. Itching!?!
  69. >“Mhmm, I had found some lice the night before. I kept them in a jar and thought I should ask you before trying them on either of us.”
  70. Yeeaaaah, its probably best you DIDN’T attempt that one.
  71. >“Then as I was nearly to your house I saw Rarity leaving and she told about the ball”
  72. Was it your intention to have me ask you to be my date for the night?
  73. >“No, I was just making small talk when I brought it up. If it weren’t for you asking me, I never would have even thought of going. I don’t care for Canterlot celebrations. Me and the others have had really bad experiences on more than one occasion.”
  74. Huh…
  75. >You chat with Fluttershy all the way
  76. >Thankfully, She’s managing to entertain
  77. >But sadly, You eventually arrive at the ball which turns out to be a complete bore
  78. >All the guests are so pompous and elite
  79. >Its like Hanging around 200+ of Rarity, Only without the generosity and humorous mishaps
  80. >None of them have anything interesting to say
  81. >Even Celestia look bored
  82. >After an hour passes, you nudge Fluttershy
  83. Do you want to leave?
  84. >“Are you not enjoying your night?”
  85. Its this place I’m not enjoying. Its drag, Just like the last two years
  86. >“Where would you like to go?”
  87. Anywhere is fine, I just want to get out of here before Celestia starts trolling.
  88. >“Would you like to go to the beach?”
  89. Okay.
  90.
  91.
  92. >The two of you walk across the beach
  93. >You banter playfully for a bit before ceasing the cutting remarks to ask a serious question
  94. Fluttershy, why are you as interested in me as you are?
  95. >“Well, you know…I‘m…interested in…”
  96. >She mumbles the last bit of her sentence unintelligibly
  97. What was that?
  98. >“I’m…fascinated with…”
  99. >She continues her mumbles
  100. I can’t hear you
  101. >She sighs softly
  102. >“I’m interested in you because…I think of you as an animal”
  103. >You halt your walking in surprise and raise an eyebrow
  104. You think of me as an animal?!
  105. >She nods
  106. Well that’s not encouraging.
  107. >You look away from her in disinterest, causing her to respond in urgency
  108. >“But, That’s just why I’m interested in you, its not why I like you!”
  109. >You turn back to her
  110. Okay then, Why do you like me as much as you do?
  111. >“Because you’re an outsider living on the fringe edge of society confined to your own interests”
  112. >Pokerface.jpg
  113. That was…not an answer I was expecting
  114. >“And because of that, you remind me of myself”
  115. Have you been waiting all night to say that or did you make it up off the top of your head?
  116. >“It’s the truth, I swear by it!”
  117. Attraction through sympathy?
  118. >“Yes, that’s it! When I see you in your isolation, I feel your suffering. It’s gloomy and I know what its like. I wish I could help you.”
  119. >Your sarcastic, arrogant composure fades for the first time since the start of the night
  120. >Its replaced by a more vulnerable one that you attempt to cover up defensivley
  121. Well, I’m not a COMPLETE recluse. I’m certainly not as isolated as you. I work. I socialize. And I went to the ball tonight, Didn’t I?
  122. >She doesn’t buy it
  123. >“You don’t have to pretend being the only one of your kind doesn’t bother you. I know it does.”
  124. >You show even more vulnerability. So much that attempting to hide it won’t do any good
  125. >She reads every bit of your expression and affectionately rests a foreleg over your shoulder
  126. >“I just wish there was someway I could ease the pain”
  127. >You look into her eyes and smile
  128. >The first sincere thought of the night comes to mind
  129. She‘s…kind of nice actually. I can’t believe I never took to the time to notice. I feel kind of stupid. God I wish she was human. Oh I bet she’d be cute…and sexy. Man, I’d like to spread her.
  130. >“Umm, Anon. you said that out loud”
  131. >Pause for awkward effect
  132. I think that’s enough beach for tonight.
  133. >You attempt to leave but she bites the sleeve of your coat
  134. >“Wait, Anon! Maybe we could…well…here!”
  135. >She pulls you into her, kisses you and starts undoing your shirt
  136. Hey, I’m not sure about this!
  137. >“Shh, just leave everything to me”
  138. >Insert your own clopfic here, that’s where I draw the line
  139. >After finishing, you don a blank face and gaze across the beach, unsure of what to make of what just happened
  140. >You get your clothes and head home on foot
  141. >She follows alongside, but out of discomfort you put some distance between you and her
  142. >“Anon, has it been hard for you to live here?”
  143. Of course. But I have grown to appreciate some things. I like how harmonious and peaceful it is. It helps me feel less cynical.
  144. >“Are you lonely?”
  145. How could I not be? I’m just…one. Just a Singularity.
  146. >“What’s it like to be human?”
  147. Umm…I have no idea how to explain it.
  148. >“What are human girls like”
  149. Well, Some are shy and timid like you. Some are sporty like Rainbow Dash or Applejack. Some are chipper and energetic like Pinky Pie and some-AHEM-too many are annoying and vain like Trixie.
  150. >“Do you miss being around them?”
  151. I don’t think about it.
  152. >“It must be really painful for you”
  153. >You snap at her out of bitterness
  154. Well, Apologies if I am about to spoil the romance, but your antics sure haven’t helped.
  155. >She looks away embarrassed and somewhat ashamed
  156. >“I-I’m sorry. I’m not good at approaching. Can I make it up to you”
  157. What’s in it for me?
  158. >“Umm…the opportunity for me to make up for the discomfort I’ve caused you?”
  159. Oh! Right…
  160. >The embarrassment of realizing the obvious answer to your snappy question forces you to look away in disinterest once again
  161. >Uncomfortable silence fills the air
  162. >She finally breaks the silence as you reach your door
  163. >“Can I come inside, there’s something I would like to talk to you about”
  164. Its getting kind of late. Can you just give me the bottom line?
  165. >“Well, What do you think about going steady?”
  166. >You rub the back of your neck in uncertainty
  167. I’ll think about it.
  168. >“Does that mean ‘no‘?”
  169. >Shrug
  170. Possibly
  171. >You attempt to enter the house but she leaps in front of you, halting your movement
  172. >She stands up, gives you a tight hug and whispers in your ear
  173. >“Please, Anon. I promise I can make it worthwhile.”
  174. >You quiver under the warmth of the hug
  175. Well…I HAVE been seeing you on a daily basis, one way or another.
  176. >She tightens her hug as you massage a temple in contemplation
  177. >She pulls away from the side of your head and looks at you eagerly
  178. >You smile halfheartedly
  179. …I’ll see you Thursday
  180. >She smiles back
  181. >You attempt to enter the house again but before you can shut the door, she asks one last question
  182. >“Where do you think this will go, Where the two of -us- will go?”
  183. >You Exhale heavily and respond with the honest to god truth
  184. Fluttershy, I have no idea…
