Using Tor with XChat

  2. This tutorial is about how to use Tor with xChat. It is assumed that you already have Tor installed and running.
  3. Here are the instructions for changing your xChat settings to use Tor.
  4. On the top of your window, in the menubar which as the terms XChat View Server Settings Window Help. Select the Settings menu option.
  5. Under the Settings menu option you should click on Preferences. You will see a new window open and its title will be "XChat: Preferences"
  6. In the XChat Preferences window, on the left side, you will see "categories" and one of them is "Network". If you do not see choices below Network then click on the icon to the left of it to open the choices.
  7. You should see two choices. Network setup and File Transfers. We want to select Network Setup.
  8. In the section titled "Proxy Server" we want to enter the following information.
  9. In the hostname field enter: 127.0.0.1
  10. In the port field enter: 9050
  11. In the Type field select: Socks5
  12. In the Use proxy for field select: All Connections
  13. Now press the OK button.
  14. Your xChat should now be configured for Tor usage. If you are already connected to your IRC server, you will now need to disconnect and reconnect.
