  1. 1: 1984 is written in such a way that its always regarded as prophetic. Ever since its release, people have been saying that "it is happening" and "I've reading 1984, and it is scary how close we are to that kind of society". Those people tend to miss the point of 1984, or at least not look beyond the "Big Brother sees everything" part of the Ingsoc society. What is really scary about Ingsoc is its ability to say anything and the party members will believe it. If the Big Brother says the sky is green, then the sky IS green. It has always been green. You can't question it. If you do question it, then you are guilty of Thoughtcrime. Those who are guilty of Thoughtcrime gets vaporized, removed from history. So everyone who have ever existed do believe everything that Big Brother says. In many ways, we are further away from that than ever. With the internet, anyone can leave an imprint to history and state their opinion. Nothing disappears from the internet, for better or worse. In todays society, it would be next to impossible to fully Vaporize a person.
  2. 2: Everyone aren't fooled all the time. Winston is a living proof of that. But what the state does is that it kills people who might deviate when they are fooled. They take them to the ministry of Love, and fill them with lies. When they eventually believe the lies, the state kills them and lifts them out of history.

  6. 6: Paranoia is a typical trait of the 20th century. During the 20th century, authors like Kafka started to rise. Much like Orwell, they presented a very pessimistic world view where you can't know for sure what's true and what's not.
  7. 7: As mentioned before, 1984 is timeless.
