  9. [2014-08-20 13:11:40] <Kkat> 3Bookwright frowns. "Oh. Okay." He focuses his magic for a moment, and then releases a spell.

Shatara, you get up by th' trap rooms again and disable 'em. I don't think we're gonna stay here fer' much longer."

  18. [2014-08-20 13:25:10] * Golden_Dream sighs. At that moment, she just decided to give up wondering what the heck Copycat means when she says stuff like that. "And we all know that's a real bad idea."

Speaking of hunger, I would appreciate it if you refrained from trying to consume my compatriots. I like them. I will arrange a meal for you in due time.>
  21. [2014-08-20 13:34:54] * Noble_Heart frowns slightly. "We do not think visiting a town without invitation would go well. It is doubtful that zebras are any more friendly than ponies are to outsiders."

  26. [2014-08-20 13:49:28] * Golden_Dream begins to start back to the junction that led to the fork in the first place. She remembered something her dad always said as a mantra when things got stressful. The second one seemed most applicable. "Trot my post in a military manner, keeping always on alert, and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing." She thought it good advice.

  28. [2014-08-20 13:51:54] * Shatara tries not to think about tasting CopyCat.
  29. [2014-08-20 13:53:51] * Noble_Heart looks down towards Golden Dream curiously at the odd statement. She frowned a little and glanced around at the surroundings again. "It seems unlikely much will have changed since we last were here."
  30. [2014-08-20 13:55:35] * CopyCat pauses midstep and turns to look at Bookwright and Scales inquisitively. "I do? I shall endeavour to be less scrumptious in the future."
  31. [2014-08-20 13:57:04] * Golden_Dream doesn't really give her response a second thought. "Then if there are changes, then somethin' weird's up. I'd like t' keep my mind about weird changes."
  32. [2014-08-20 13:57:23] * Golden_Dream looks up. "Especially when we're worried we might be found by slavers."
  33. [2014-08-20 13:58:45] * Noble_Heart blinks. "Are we worried we might be found by slavers? We would be quite surprised if any of them brought weaponry suitable to fight Us and Our friends."
  34. [2014-08-20 13:59:12] * Bookwright "Er, I don't suppose we locked the firewagon up when we left it, did we?"
  35. [2014-08-20 14:01:24] <Kkat> 3The trip upstairs is considerably less eventful than the trip downstairs, as Shatara has disabled the traps. The trip upstairs is also largely fruitless, as the bulk of the upper temple is solid stone thanks to a lava trap...
  36. [2014-08-20 14:02:16] * Golden_Dream rolls her eyes. "That's why we don't let them get th' drop on us. If they want half'a chance at getting us, it's gonna be from somewhere we ain't expectin' em' from." She sighed. "And you know they'll want you and Copycat most of all."
  37. [2014-08-20 14:02:58] * Bookwright "How does one enslave a pony who can teleport at will?"
  38. [2014-08-20 14:03:28] * CopyCat blinks. "They will want me? Am I still too appetizing?"
  39. [2014-08-20 14:03:32] <Kkat> 3... (theoretically, the same one Daring Do set off in her first book... if one was to assume that part of the book didn't fall into 'artistic license'.) However, there is one last pair of old military crates (empty), some bedding, and various other signs of a centuries-abandoned military operation.
  40. [2014-08-20 14:05:26] * Golden_Dream then addresses Bookwright. "I dunno. But I do know that zebra magic is bullshit. They prolly got somethin' t' lean things in their favor."
  41. [2014-08-20 14:06:30] * Bookwright grimaces. "You're probably right. I don't want to find out if there are ways to suppress teleportation magic by having my own suppressed. If there's nothing here, we should probably get lost, quick."
  42. [2014-08-20 14:07:21] * Noble_Heart frowns and looks around as the climb. She didn't seem overly concerned about the airship.

  44. [2014-08-20 14:17:09] * Golden_Dream nearly trips. Son of a- You get all worked up about always being watchful, and then you nearly fall on your flank! What kind of luck is this? She swiftly tosses back the mattress to see what was under it.

  51. [2014-08-20 14:32:13] * Bookwright "I don't know much about zebra magic, but I suppose it could be. Don't fetishes usually have more, I don't know, feathers and bones and stuff though?"
  52. [2014-08-20 14:33:05] * Golden_Dream lowers her eyelids. "Hey! I know I'm greedy, but I ain't literally attracted t' shiny rocks, Corolla."
  53. [2014-08-20 14:34:43] * Noble_Heart facehoofs. "Not that sort of Fetish, Goldy. A fetish as in an object meant to bind a spirit or draw a spirit's power into the holder. A tablet like that, carved with zebra runes and inlaid with a precious rare gem? It seems likely to be such."
  54. [2014-08-20 14:36:10] * CopyCat stares at the prety opal. "So, does that mean there could be a spirit inside it? Just, sleeping?"
  55. [2014-08-20 14:37:47] * Golden_Dream looks deeply into it. "I 'unno." She said, shaking the rock a bit. "Hey. You sleepin'?"
  56. [2014-08-20 14:39:47] * Noble_Heart shakes her head. "We are uncertain. It is not impossible. Or it might be part of some larger device to summon, control or communicate with a spirit. We have heard tales of both."
  57. [2014-08-20 14:40:37] * Bookwright "Or it's just a really pretty opal that doesn't have any sinister uses whatsoever. Yet."
  58. [2014-08-20 14:48:13] * Get_Late sends a radio call for parlay
  59. [2014-08-20 14:48:52] * Golden_Dream rose an eyebrow. "Yet?"
  60. [2014-08-20 14:49:29] <Kkat> 3After severeal fretfully long minutes, Parlay come swooping in, beeping happily.
  61. [2014-08-20 14:51:21] * Bookwright "Well, yeah. It's definitely a really nice opal, it's possible it just hasn't been used for anything zebra-magicky yet."
  62. [2014-08-20 14:53:38] * Get_Late "oh, hello sweetie... did you have fun?" the cybermare pets her robot
  63. [2014-08-20 14:54:43] * Golden_Dream blinks. "Oh! Hey, Parlay's back." She said, then fiddling with her pipbuck. "Hey, Parlay. Wrap yer thought box around this."
  64. [2014-08-20 14:58:10] <Kkat> 3Parlay swoops over the tablet, scans it, and begins translating.
  65. [2014-08-20 15:02:24] <Kkat> 3Parley begins sending Get_Lost a stream of data.
  66. [2014-08-20 15:05:13] * Golden_Dream blinks, then gets close to get. Staring her right in the visor, as if trying to read it off of it. "What's it sayin'?"
  67. [2014-08-20 15:05:41] <Kkat> 3The tablet appears to be an instruction manual for operating quarry golems. It makes several mentions of enchanted plates that are installed, guiding the golem's functions and general demeanor.
  68. [2014-08-20 15:06:47] * Bookwright is equally excited. "Well?"
  69. [2014-08-20 15:07:04] <Kkat> 3With the proper plates installed, a shamaness can assign the golem an appropriate task and leave the golem to complete it with little or no supervision.
  70. [2014-08-20 15:08:04] * Get_Late "well, it looks like it's some sort of mumbo jumbo nonsensical superstition.... i ssent the whole thing to your pipbucks, give it a try"
  71. [2014-08-20 15:08:08] <Kkat> 3In such a case as a shaman is unavailable, the holder of this tablet can give limited commands to a golem whose behavior plate is linked to the gem inset on the tablet.
  72. [2014-08-20 15:12:02] * Golden_Dream reads the pipbuck hurriedly. And then gets immediately struck with an idea. "Oh! Oh! Them golems! Them golems, we gotta see if one of 'em matches up with this here rock!"
  73. [2014-08-20 15:12:18] * Bookwright "All the golems in here are deactivated though."
  74. [2014-08-20 15:13:50] * Noble_Heart nods her head. "It would seem that those doing the digging failed here. But there may be more elsewhere using them."
  75. [2014-08-20 15:14:46] * Golden_Dream raises the rock. "That what this here rock is for, I think it's some sorta key t' get it started up again. We just gotta figure out which one!"
  76. [2014-08-20 15:14:47] * Get_Late frowns "this is definitely out of my field, guys... we need a shaman"
  77. [2014-08-20 15:14:48] * Bookwright ponders. "Well, Get Lost here is all about the robots, and golems are just robots, so I say she should probably hold on to this."
  78. [2014-08-20 15:14:49] * CopyCat tilts her head. "It said something about a golem with the matching plate... but the plates were removed from the one we found, right? I wonder if those plates were used on anything else. Perhaps the opal might have an effect on /them/."
  79. [2014-08-20 15:15:41] * Golden_Dream looks at Copycat. "Copycat!" She said in an overly accusatory tone.
  80. [2014-08-20 15:16:46] <Kkat> 3Everybody suddenly remembers the first crates they found inside...
  81. [2014-08-20 15:17:03] <Kkat> 3>> Two of the crates are empty. One holds zebra foodstuffs which lacked the necessary over-abundance of preservatives that was the trademark of Good Pony products, and thus have been reduced to inedible sludge in skanky jars. One crate holds a supply of MFCs (53). One holds a set of plates carved with zebra glyphs, each inset with a gemstone.
  82. [2014-08-20 15:17:16] <Kkat> 3>> Golden_Dream blinks and takes the plates. Huh. Even in the Zebra lands, tableware is always pristine.
  83. [2014-08-20 15:17:50] * CopyCat tilts her head at Golden_Dream. "What?"
  84. [2014-08-20 15:18:14] * Get_Late "these aren't robots... robots are made with love, care and a lot of precision working.... these... these are chunks of rock with a blah blah blah and a lot of optimism tossed on them... i don't think i can fix them"
  85. [2014-08-20 15:18:30] <Kkat> 3Everyone remembers, that is, except for the one carrying the plates in her saddlebags.
  86. [2014-08-20 15:18:55] * Bookwright "I wasn't talking about the way they were made, I was talking about they way they functioned."
  87. [2014-08-20 15:20:27] * Golden_Dream shakes the opal in her hoof. "Keep at that. Yer smart when you ain't makin' nonsense words." She looks around. "Hmm. Now, we jus' gotta find somethin' that fit." She was drawing a blank.
  88. [2014-08-20 15:21:52] * Noble_Heart frowns and tilts her head at Bookwright's comment. "That is like saying that words written in Zebra and words written in Equstrian should both be understandable by you. They are both written down, after all."
  89. [2014-08-20 15:23:12] <Get_Late> anyway, i think those pretty plattes we found earlier should be the plates, don't you think

  91. [2014-08-20 15:24:13] * Bookwright "Actually, it would be saying that they're both languages that convey meaning. I mayn't be able to understand zebra, but I'm in a position to learn. All I'm saying is that Get Lost may not know how to run or command a golem, but she's the only one here with the foundation to learn it easiest."
  92. [2014-08-20 15:26:27] * CopyCat blinks. "Oh yes, I had forgotten about those, Get_Late. I wonder if there's anything useful around here that we could plug them into."
  93. [2014-08-20 15:27:51] * Get_Late "maybe some stone serpent?"
  94. [2014-08-20 15:28:37] * Golden_Dream just gives Get Late a blank look before digging through her things. The only things she remembers having from this place is the scrap and the shiny rock. And she doubted the shiny rock would qualify as a plate.
  95. [2014-08-20 15:29:23] * Golden_Dream then gets an odd idea in her head. "Hey, they need one o' these opals, a gemstone, and a plate fer these things to work, right?"
  96. [2014-08-20 15:29:35] * Noble_Heart looks down to Golden Dream. "You have a PipBuck do you not? It should have information on what items you are carrying and an inventory management spell."
  97. [2014-08-20 15:32:06] * Golden_Dream blushes deeply. "I feel all fuzzy in my brain when this digital stuff gets involved. You know all this technology stuff jus' makes me angry tryin' t' understand it."
  98. [2014-08-20 15:34:18] * Golden_Dream pulls out said plates, the pretty polished stone, and the opal. She then tried to find some socket to put the polished stone into.
  99. [2014-08-20 15:35:33] <Kkat> 3The opal begins to glow with a soft internal light. The gemstone on the plate Golden_Dream left nearest to it echos that glow.
  100. [2014-08-20 15:38:27] * Golden_Dream smirks. She can be a science filly!
  101. [2014-08-20 15:39:03] * Golden_Dream pokes Noble_Heart on the leg. "Hey! Hey, Noble! You can do this, right?"
  102. [2014-08-20 15:40:32] * Shatara observes the process quietly and curiously.
  103. [2014-08-20 15:40:54] * Noble_Heart blinks. "Do what?" She tilts her head to one side as she looks down at Golden Dream. Uncertain what exactly was being asked of her.
  104. [2014-08-20 15:43:22] <Kkat> 3Parlay beep-beeps, flying into Get_Lost in a nudging fashion.
  105. [2014-08-20 15:44:25] * Get_Late snuggles her pet-bot and smiles at her "who is a smart bot? you are!ù"
  106. [2014-08-20 15:44:58] * Golden_Dream coughs, then hooves the shiny rocks to Noble_Heart. "You or Shatara should put th' polished gem onto th' plate thing so you c'n put it on one of them golems who don't have one of these plates on 'em. I betcha you could screw it on and it'd work."
  107. [2014-08-20 15:49:48] * Bookwright "Those golems we went by all looked burnt out though. Well, the drills. Maybe the golems still go?"
  108. [2014-08-20 15:50:36] * Noble_Heart shakes her head. "We doubt that any of the ones here would be useful. The zebras abandoned them for a reason. But the plates might be useful if we can find some intact golems elsewhere."
  109. [2014-08-20 15:53:09] * CopyCat nods. "Yes. We must find something to plug our thingy into."
  110. [2014-08-20 15:53:20] <Kkat> 3Parlay boops, pleased. And downloads images into Get_Lost's head. The flying ship in the distance has been flying steadily closer.
  111. [2014-08-20 15:53:27] * Get_Late "ah... and if we know how to give them orders?"
  112. [2014-08-20 15:54:53] * Get_Late "i wouldn'tbe surprised if they accepted only a small number of specific zebrican words, moreove- wait a moment... oh... not good."
  113. [2014-08-20 15:55:44] * Get_Late "the flying ship is getting closer. if we don't plan pon meeting them any soon we shpuld leave"
  114. [2014-08-20 15:55:49] * Noble_Heart shakes her head. "It is hard to say. If they are driven by spirits it may be possible to communicate with those spirits to give them orders. We have never had a chance to look closely at zebra golems before and so can only speculate."
  115. [2014-08-20 15:56:02] * Bookwright pales. "I don't want to meet the slavers. Let's get out of here."
  116. [2014-08-20 15:57:24] * CopyCat nods even faster. "We must not let them catch us and our deliciousness!"
  117. [2014-08-20 15:58:42] * Golden_Dream starts to brew an idea. "I think I got somethin'. Let's fall back to th' Firewagon and hide out there. We'll keep an eye on them t' see what they're workin' on."
  118. [2014-08-20 15:59:15] * Shatara tilts his head. "I think they're 'workin' on' finding us..."
  119. [2014-08-20 15:59:56] * Noble_Heart nods her head. "Back the way we came then." She turned to head back towards the firewagon.
  120. [2014-08-20 16:01:57] * Bookwright casts a worrying glance upwards. "We still gotta get past the flying hungry things though. I suppose we could teleport again, but I'm open to other suggestions."
  121. [2014-08-20 16:04:38] * Golden_Dream seems to be deep in thought. "Well, we gotta get rid of th' Ahools. What do ahools not like?"
  122. [2014-08-20 16:04:47] <Shatara> "Bullets?"
  123. [2014-08-20 16:05:05] * Golden_Dream tilts her head. "Bad question. Why are ahools swarming here in th' first place?"
  124. [2014-08-20 16:06:12] * Bookwright puts the question to the native. <Scales, those flying hungry creatures outside that are not like you and I, those 'Ahools', do you know why they like this place?>
  125. [2014-08-20 16:07:42] * Get_Late "they don't like high pitched sounds, but i have no idea of a decent way to reproducw the sound while leaving the place"
  126. [2014-08-20 16:19:54] <Kkat> 3Scales answers { Hunting grounds }
  127. [2014-08-20 16:21:41] * Noble_Heart frowns. "We might be able to replicate such a noise on a grand enough scale. Making it last long enough might prove challenging, however."
  128. [2014-08-20 16:22:59] * Bookwright <And we're food. Got it.>
  129. [2014-08-20 16:26:33] * Bookwright "The Ahools are here because this place is a hunting ground for them. As you might infer, we are food."
  130. [2014-08-20 16:27:11] * Bookwright "Noble Heart, all it really needs to achieve is to keep them away from us. We don't need to clear them all out of here, just make them keep their distance.

  132. [2014-08-20 16:27:19] * CopyCat has an idea. "What if we dress up as pineapples?"
  133. [2014-08-20 16:28:22] * Golden_Dream narrows her eyes. "Y'sure? I'm thinkin' if we weren't, y'know, dumb, we wouldn'ta ran into this place. Nopony in their right minds would go into an actively swarmin' thing of ahools. And besides, y' see how many of them are up there? How th' heck is there enough folks dumb enough t' feed all them?"
  134. [2014-08-20 16:28:56] <Kkat> 3Scales suggests, { Wound the especially delicious one. They'll go after the straggler. }
  135. [2014-08-20 16:29:56] * Noble_Heart taps her chin. "We can attempt to drive them away." She looks down to Golden Dream. "PErhaps they do not actually need to eat, but do so out of predatory instinct? Dragons are known to eat stones and gems, but most would still gladly roast an intruder to their lair and consume the remains just the same."
  136. [2014-08-20 16:31:15] * Golden_Dream completes the thought. "Then why would they swarm on somethin' that don't even know was comin'?"
  137. [2014-08-20 16:31:53] * Bookwright <Your suggestion is appreciated, but as I have outlined before, none of my compatriots are food. I do have a question though: How tasty are ahools?>
  138. [2014-08-20 16:32:31] * Golden_Dream looks around. "They're eatin' somethin' else here. If it's one of th' elements they're swarmin' over and they're eatin' th' magic, I ain't letting a slaver ship take it."
  139. [2014-08-20 16:32:58] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side. "They are swarming over this temple. Perhaps it is significant to them in some way."
  140. [2014-08-20 16:33:59] * Bookwright shrugs. "Scales says 'hunting grounds', and has since implied that we are food for ahools. I suppose that means they eat treasure hunters, like us. At any rate, I would like to /go/ now. To the firewagon."
  141. [2014-08-20 16:34:14] * CopyCat ponders. "There was that statue on top. It looked quite like an Ahool, didn't it?"
  142. [2014-08-20 16:39:03] * Bookwright "That it did, but I don't see how that's relevant."
  143. [2014-08-20 16:39:49] * Noble_Heart face hoofs. "It is possible that the statue may be drawing the ahools here or keeping them here somehow."
  144. [2014-08-20 16:40:55] * Bookwright "And if we blow it up they'll just fly away?"
  145. [2014-08-20 16:41:01] * Bookwright shakes his head in clear disbelief.
  146. [2014-08-20 16:41:39] * Noble_Heart ruffles her feathers. "We do not know. But it does not seem beyond possibility. Or they may turn their attentions to that approaching airship. Or worse."
  147. [2014-08-20 16:42:55] * Golden_Dream begins to pace in a circle. "So we got th' plates. We got th' gem. But you're sure that all the golems are wrecked beyond all repair, right?"
  148. [2014-08-20 16:45:01] <Kkat> 3{ I would not know. Only the Empress has ever hunted those beasts. }
  149. [2014-08-20 16:45:10] * Bookwright "...no, No I'm not. But there's no guarantee that destroying the statue will make them disperse, and the slavers are getting closer. Plus, if the ahools disperse, the slavers will have a clear run at us."
