  7. LIST OF BROWSER ADDONS TO BLOCK SOCIAL NETWORKS AND OTHER TRACKERS
  8.
  9. INTRO:
  10.
  11. Here is a list of addons for Firefox and Google Chrome that will block social networks
  12. and most other trackers from spying on and tracking your online activity!
  13.
  14. Why, well what right do these companies have to monitor and track what you do on the internet?
  15. Invasion of privacy! Think of it this way, would you want a bunch of people following you around
  16. when you go about your day to day activities? NO! that would piss you off.
  17. Sorry to break it to ya but the FBI, CIA, and NSA already track US citizens by cellphones and other devices THATS A FACT!
  18. So in a way leaving your phone at home could be considered "obstruction of justice", cuz they cant track ya.
  19. Well I say fuck em!
  20.
  21. It also recently came out that Facebook was using its mobile app to spy on users text messages,
  22. whether its true or not doesnt matter I wouldnt put it past em!
  23.
  24. Also another reason to use these addons is cuz now the wonderfull US government can acess any info a social network has on you!
  25. Thats right ANY info so that means your "privacy" on the interwebz just got thrown on the ground!
  26. Learn more here: https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&tab=core&id=c65777356334dab8685984fa74bfd636&_cview=1
  27. Or if ya dont want to visit a .gov site
  28. THN has a great summary of whats to come: http://thehackernews.com/2012/01/fbi-will-monitor-social-media-using.html

  32.
  33. Anyways back to these addons:
  34. Keep in mind you can install any one, two or all of these addons.
  35. Most of them will block the same stuff, but hey better to be safe then sorry, am I right or am I right!
  36. I have at least two+ addons on any browser I use! For example in Firefox I have NoScript, Ghostery, Priv3, WOT, and Redirect blocker
  37. Just cuz I can!
  38.
  39.
  40. Firefox addons:
  41.
  42. NoScript:
  43. This is probably one of the most important add ons someone can use!
  44. It blocks all javascript from running in your browser.
  45. This includes: Trackers, all javascript based exploits, and a bunch of other bad stuff!
  46. DOWNLOAD: http://noscript.net/ and click install :)
  47.
  48. The only catch with NoScript is that a lot of websites like twitter use Javascript to operate their site
  49. this causes problems when attempting to login and use buttons to do stuff.
  50. To make a site like twitter operate properly you will need to click on the NoScript icon at the bottom of Firefox
  51. and click allow or temperarlly allow twitter.com, twimg just to login, then once logged in allow/ temperarlly allow akamihd.net
  52. And it will rum properly, and if ya have another blocker runing your safe from any shit twitter might try n use to track ya!
  53.
  54. ---

  65.
  66. ---
  67.
  68. Priv3:
  69. http://priv3.icsi.berkeley.edu/
  70. Just click Install.
  71. This one has some bad reviews from users, but theyre just bitching about "It randomly opens its home page when starting Firefox."
  72. What ever, I havent had this issue and ive been using it since day one!
  73. all you need to do is click Install and your done.
  74. Ghostery provides the same protection and more but hey It never hurts to use both, cuz ya never know when one might catch somethin the other doesnt!
  75.
  76. ---
  77.
  78. RedirectRemover:
  79. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/redirect-remover/?src=userprofile
  80. This lil guy trys to remove any redirects from a link or image!
  81. Thus thwarting someone who might redirect to a malicious site, or use redirects when loading a page to get ad revenue or referer revenue!
  82.
  83. ---
  84.
  85. WOT (Web Of Trust): (also available for Chrome)
  86. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wot-safe-browsing-tool/?src=search
  87. This is a really nice addon that shows weather a site has a good reputation or not! Just click add to Firefox and install it.
  88. After that whenever you do a google search or see a link on twitter it will show either a red(bad), yellow(iffy), Or green(good).
  89. This is the reputation of the site! You can read reviews on the site and see what real people/users have to say about it.
  90.
  91. #############################################################################################
  92.
  93. Chrome addons: (you may install one, two or all of these if you want!)
  94.
  95. AdBlockPlus
  96. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb
  97. install/how-to:
  98. Step1: Go to Adblock Plus Options
  99.
  100. Right-click on the Adblock Plus logo in your Chrome address-bar and choose “Options”. In the tab “Filter lists” you can activate filter lists by activating the respective check-box.
  101.
  102. However, the required filter list to block Facebook buttons is not listed here so in the next step you’ll need to activate the subscription manually by entering the URL into the “Add URL” field..
  103.
  104.
  105. Step2: Add the Antisocial filter list and other tracker lists
  106.
  107. At the bottom of the “Filter lists” tab you can find a field where you can manually add the URL of a filter list you would like to subscribe to.
  108.
  109. Add the following URLS here(one at a time):
  110. https://adversity.googlecode.com/hg/Antisocial.txt
  111. https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-tracking.txt
  112. https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-addon.txt
  113. https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/fanboy-adblock.txt
  114.
  115. That’s it. The next time you visit a website with social media integration, the Facebook “spy-button” will be blocked automatically so you can surf without having to worry about what a company like Facebook might do with all the information they have about you.
  116.
  117. ---
  118.
  119. Ghostery
  120. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mlomiejdfkolichcflejclcbmpeaniij
  121.

  125. click "get started"
  126. DO NOT check enable GhostRank
  127. click Next
  128. Enable Alert Bubble will be automatically checked, this is ok all depends on weather u want to see what trackers have been blocked when u first open a page.
  129. click Next
  130. enable the Bug List Auto-Update makes it easy to stay updated on trackers n whatnot
  131. click next
  132. CHECK enable Blocking!! Then check the top most box from the list that pops up so it will select all!
  133. Click Finish and your done, now all ads, trackers, and all that shit will be blocked!
  134.
  135. ---
  136.
  137. FlashBlock:
  138. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gofhjkjmkpinhpoiabjplobcaignabnl
  139. This blocks Flash content which can be used to infect yo computer, and other malicious stuff.
  140. Flash is also widely used for interactive content so you will need to enable it on some sites.
  141. In my opinion Flash sucks and uses too much bandwidth and memory on a computer. HTML5 is better and is portable to all devices.
  142. Oh and Flash is really vunlerable to exploits.
