- A Story about a Hungarian Bridge: Stephen Colbert vs. Hungary: K. O.!
- « on: 2009-05-26, 16:44:06 »
- Actually, this is a 2 years old story but even I found it today.
- Two years ago, Hungarian government decided to give a name to the Hungarian main road's new bridge after an Internet vote. The voters could give suggestions what should be the name of the bridge. Actually, because Chuck Norris's jokes are worldwidely favourite, Chuck Norris somehow was voted to nameafter. He had good chances... and this is where international news agencies took the story. Reuters even did an interview with Chuck Norris, who was very surprised and interested.
- This was the point where Colbert Nation entered the tournament.
- Colbert's story started at 3:30 in this video, where he commented Chuck Norris's place. http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/72739/august-09-2006/tip-wag---hungarian-bridge
- Nearly a week later, Colbert removed the language barrier by showing his nation how to vote. http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/72977/august-15-2006/hungarian-bridge-progress-report
- The next day he had more votes than Chuck Norris....http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/73051/august-16-2006/let-s-make-this-happen
- Within that week, he had more votes that anybody could expect....http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/73378/august-22-2006/stephen-colbert-salutes-hungary
- And what happened? This. http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/182256/september-14-2006/bridge-contest
- Even the Ambassador of Hungary had to give Colbert the Hungarian government's message. http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/75462/september-14-2006/andras-simonyi
- These are all FACTS. I remembered the story a bit (some unknown American humorist won the contest...) but I didn't trust in it. Now I realized why could he won.
- Actually, after the contest, the local naming government vetoed Colbert and named the Bridge Megyer-Bridge, because the two villages that it connects are Békásmegyer and Káposztásmegyer... and this was the end of the story.
- Oh, and a last think: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/182259/september-14-2006/sign-off---get-on-it--nation
