As you all know, an Anon from Kentucky, now exposed as Deric Lostutter, aided in obtaining justice for a rape victim by publicizing the gross inaction of law enforcement and trusted officials.



Did he pair strong encryption with a VPN to hide his identity?

No. That, coupled with a mouthy braggart in the group, is why he got caught.



Should he have, at that point, kept his mouth shut and asked for an attorney instead of admitting his identity?

Absolutely.



Are there simple security measures available through OpNewBlood to prevent exactly this circumstance?

YES. And if you're not already using TOR/VPN (or similar) - contact them for help.



Because of his own mistakes, Deric is no longer anonymous, and facing up to ten years in prison.

We have watched the abandonment. We have watched the harassment. We have watched false anons claim Deric was an activist to cover up for his own past as a rapist.


We watch no longer.



Donations made to Deric's defense go directly to his lawyer, a founding member of the Whistle Blower Defense League, who has fought hard to free those within our ranks from political imprisonment and oppression. You will no longer endanger the support we have worked so hard to gain.

The WePay account contains over $50,000 in donations, all of which is  secured by WBDL. To claim it is being used fraudulently is an attack on the WBDL and on the Anons they support. This behaviour ends now.

You will not shame Deric or his defense team, for to do so is to shame us all. Media reads your comments. Police read your comments. LEGION reads your comments. You make us look like children and fools.

We do not threaten, intimidate, harass, discredit, or bully our own, not matter how ineffective their contermeasures were.

Justice is not based on what tools anyone is running. Instead, it is based on principal. Not all who don the mask are hackers. Some just want a banner to unite under, to fight under, to share their voice and join the fight against injustice.

We are not an elitist circlejerk. We are righteous crusaders.

WE ARE LEGION.

EXPECT US.


A message to Deric: We are watching you, too. We ask that you make DONATION TOTAL PUBLIC. We ask that you make your USE OF THOSE FUNDS PUBLIC. In the interest of honesty and transparency. We ask that you let us be your judge. We support you for what you did, and will fight against your imprisonment. We ask that you be transparent in your accounting all monies we have so generously given.
