- Hello Mr. Masuda!
- Sorry to link you to an image, but a Tweet can't contain this much text. I was
- told that you made this account so you could get to know the fans better, and
- receive feedback. I would feel bad if I never gave any. Also, I really enjoy
- your blog!
- I am a Pokémon fan, and I would like to say thank you for your hard work
- in the series. Like many older international fans, I follow the release
- of your games from the moment they're announced in Japan. It's always fun
- speculating on what's going to happen. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are no
- exception. This year, we received the chance to visit the Isshu region again,
- and I've heard nothing but praise for your new games.
- Recently, we received new information for our own version of the games. I'm
- always excited to play in my own language. However, as with every game, there
- are fans who may dislike the localized names because they have gotten used to
- the original ones. I have a similar opinion. I, and many others, have gotten
- used to names like Achroma, Shizui, and Homika.
- Since Black and White, many fans have noticed that you're trying to appeal to
- a wider audience. You've included features such as Kanji support, as well as
- older-looking player characters. Story has also taken a higher priority. This
- doesn't really show up as much in the American version of your games. It
- sometimes feels like The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) is focusing only
- on the younger side of the fandom. And some fans feel irked when subtle jokes
- intended for the older side of the fandom are removed.
- The Hiragana/Katakana - Kanji option was also removed, although that would be
- impossible to translate over. Kanji is typically used for older players, while
- only using Hiragana/Katakana makes it easier for younger players to read. I was
- wondering if it was possible to use that feature in international games, but
- for a different purpose. The difference would be that you would have the
- option to switch between the "Localized" version, and the "Unlocalized" one.
- The "Unlocalized" version would serve a similar purpose to the Kanji mode of
- the Japanese games, where older players who followed the games during their
- first release can play with an unlocalized script and names. Meanwhile, the
- localized version would be as it always is. I'd imagine that the younger fans
- would gravitate towards that version, as the names might appeal to them more.
- Although I have no experience in localization, I'd imagine that the foreign
- text would be given a normal translation before it is localized. If a regular
- script exists, could it be used to replace the Kanji script, rather than
- removing it entirely?
- Any response would be great. Thanks for taking the time to read this. This is
- from the fans who can't get enough Pokémon.
- *This message was originally in English. Thank you to <> for taking the time
- out of his day translate all of this.
