  1. 20:17 Azura Back
  2. 20:17 Azura Sup Kylarnatia?
  3. 20:18 Kylarnatia Hey Azura
  4. 20:18 Kylarnatia I'm still doing good - you?
  5. 20:21 Kylarnatia Anything you fancy doing?
  6. 20:24 Azura About ready to worldbuild, aye
  7. 20:25 Kylarnatia Awesome - what would Azura like to do?
  8. 20:26 Azura Working on my core concept to avoid the Utopia syndrome I came up wtih last night.
  9. 20:26 Azura with*
  10. 20:27 Kylarnatia Okay, what have you figured out thus far?
  11. 20:28 Azura Nada, I just started this evening.
  12. 20:29 Kylarnatia Okay, well, like I said: Kylarnatia was very much a utopia when I first started, so I sat down and picked it apart, and remodelled it in such a way that it's position as a "utopia" can be questionable depending on who you ask.
  13. 20:31 Kylarnatia If you asked any Kylarnatian whether they lived in a utopia, they'd definitely agree. High standard of living, healthcare, education, a high sense of civil and political freedom, as well as an active police force keeping people safe at home while the military wards off Kylarnatia's enemies abroad. The Caesar - both sharp-witted and beautiful - clearly can't
  14. 20:31 Kylarnatia do anything wrong.
  15. 20:33 Kylarnatia Ask a foreigner, their opinion may differ. Some may also be positive, but others - most likely Republicans and Communists - would criticise the absolute power that the Caesar holds, and call the People's Court a 'puppet legislature' seeing as they have no form of executive power, and only act as advisor's to the Caesar and her far more executive Imperial
  16. 20:33 Kylarnatia Senate
  17. 20:34 Kylarnatia Then of course, under the surface, you have secret police who silence any form of 'dissenters', omnipresent surveillance, an 'Inquisition' which keeps non-Silver Sacerdotium followers from trying to 'convert' anyone. Etc. etc.
  18. 20:35 Kylarnatia What I'm getting at is that Azura's nation can always be a utopia to it's own citizens; whether others see it that way is another story.
  19. 20:37 Azura I may have something.
  20. 20:37 Azura A brief ember, but it's something.
  21. 20:38 Kylarnatia Oh?
  22. 20:38 Azura Yeah; are you familiar with a theodemocracy?
  23. 20:39 Azura It's sort of the alternate universe version of the Islamic Republic in Iran; a democracy that's guided by theocratic principles. I'm thinking of creating something along those lines called a Contritocracy
  24. 20:40 Azura Contrit- the embodiment of Contrition, or 'Government of the Contrite'
  25. 20:40 Kylarnatia Oooh, interesting Azura.
  26. 20:43 Azura http://pastebin.com/WGkKHSra
  27. 20:44 Kylarnatia Sounds pretty intense, like it.
  28. 20:45 Azura National Restoration and Regeneration, the 'Azur Renovamen' is the driving philosophical movement behind this government.
  29. 20:46 Azura Restoration (the recovery of a lost national identity) and Regeneration (the renewal of Azur greatness)
  30. 20:46 Azura The former is cultural, the latter is sociopolitical.
  31. 20:47 Kylarnatia nods
  32. 20:48 Azura The Emperor-Kings and Queens of Azura are getting a new name to match this styling: Vicar
  33. 20:48 Azura The Vicar of Tsyion
  34. 20:48 Azura Because /fuck_yes/
  35. 20:49 Kylarnatia Hahahahaha, awesome.
  36. 20:50 Kylarnatia All I can think of is the Vicar of Dibley, which I imagine you'll never have heard of over the pond, but all I can say is that I approve.
  37. 20:51 Azura You mean the old TV show?
  38. 20:51 Kylarnatia The one with Dawn French, yeah; surprised you know of it.
  39. 20:52 Azura I love Richard Armitage.
  40. 20:58 Kylarnatia
  41. 20:58 Azura So the Azur Orthorox Church, I have the power structure finished. Very simple, but very streamlined at the same time.
  42. 20:58 Azura Overseer > Pontiff > Cleric > Priest | Abbot > Eromite is the official progression of power.
  43. 20:59 Kylarnatia Sounds good.
  44. 21:00 Azura The bottom of the order are the Eromites; an Eromite belongs to an Eromitic Order, or monastery, and is basically the equivalency of a Catholic monk (having gone to a Catholic school, monks are generally funny as all get out).
  45. 21:01 Azura At the head of the Eromitic Order is an Abbot, commiserate with the head of a monastery in a Catholic faith, who is on equal footing with a Priest of the Faith who operates a church. Eromites can serve under either an Abbot (in a monastery) or under a Priest (in a diocese).
  46. 21:02 Azura Actually, I'm going to tinker with this, hold pelase.
  47. 21:02 Azura please*
  48. 21:03 Kylarnatia
  49. 21:09 Azura Præfect of Azura (Præfectus) > Pontifex (Pontiff) > Prelacy (Prelate) > Diaconate (Cleric) > Canonry (Priest) | Eromitic Order (Abbot) > Mission (Eromite) > The Laity of the Faithful
  50. 21:09 Azura Okay, so would you like me to elaborate, or should I move on to the government proper?
  51. 21:09 Kylarnatia I'm happy with whatever Azura wants to do; sure sounds interesting.
  52. 21:11 Azura The Laity of the Faithful, or simply 'Laity' is basically the equivalent of a volunteer at a party headquarters, as it were. The term means exactly what it says; a parishioner of the Church who holds a nominal office in his or her home diocese at the invitation of a Priest (or, less commonly, an Abbot or Eromite).
  53. 21:12 Kylarnatia Right, right
  54. 21:12 Azura An Eromite is just as we mentioned earlier, a believer who has adopted a monastic lifestyle and taken vows of poverty. They are the bottom tier, as they have intentionally lowered themselves to the most base possible as a means of internal purification.
  55. 21:12 Kylarnatia Interesting.
  56. 21:13 Azura Some Eromites, particularly older individuals may run a mission; this is similar to a Orphanage or Third World mission that a Catholic or Anglican Church may sponsor.
  57. 21:13 Kylarnatia nods
  58. 21:13 Azura In smaller towns and villages, the Eromite in charge of a mission may hold nominal civic power as a magistrate of sorts (you'll see the intertwining of government and politics into faith here shortly).
  59. 21:14 Kylarnatia coolio
  60. 21:14 Azura Next you have Priests and Abbots, who head up Canonries and Eromitic Orders, respectively. Abbots and Priests are different in title only: they hold largely the same responsibilities, but the difference is in their purview.
  61. 21:15 Azura An abbot oversees a monastery, which can range from a small mission of half a dozen adherents to monasteries with over a thousand Eromites and laypersons. Some Eromitic Orders run colleges (this is similar to my school in real life).
  62. 21:16 Azura A priest by comparison runs a Canonry, which is the smallest jurisdiction in Azura.
  63. 21:18 Kylarnatia That's an interesting factoid about Azura.
  64. 21:18 Azura A Canonry is typically made up of a small to mid-size town, and could include other, smaller allied communities. Larger canonries may work hand-in-hand with Eromitic Orders in establishing missions under their care, but a Mission always answers first to the Eromitic Order it belongs to, if that makes sense.
  65. 21:19 Kylarnatia Ja
  66. 21:20 Azura Moving up the chain into the powerbrokers now: a Diaconate. Formerly known as Deacons, now known as Clerics, a Diaconate serves immediately over a group of Canonries.
  67. 21:21 Azura Clerics are unique in that they serve as regional magistrates and adjudicators for their specific areas. Clerics are stationed in larger towns and cities that anchor the smaller cities possessing canonries.
  68. 21:22 Kylarnatia nods
  69. 21:22 Azura Prelates are very high up the chain: they govern Prelacies, which can encompass hundreds of miles of territories, dozens of clerics and hundreds of individual Canonries.
  70. 21:25 Azura There are seven Prelacies, each based in an anchor city which give them a name (i.e. the Prelacy of Williamstown, the Prelacy of Friedrich, the Prelacy of Cheltenham, etc.). Thus, in Azuran governance, a citizen can live in the City of Oak Hill (population: 112,500), but is represented by the Prelacy of Friedrich, if that makes sense.
  71. 21:26 Azura Consider Prelacies 'city-states' that have adopted both municipal governments (for the cities-proper) and for their larger purviews (acting as state or regional councils)
  72. 21:26 Azura Follow?
  73. 21:27 Kylarnatia Ja
  74. 21:28 Azura Okay, now we're at the top: the Pontifex. Unique at the top of the chain, the Pontifex is considered the 'administrative' head of the church. The Pontiffs that serve in the Pontifex basically operate as the Cardinals do in the Catholic Church.
  75. 21:29 Kylarnatia nods
  76. 21:29 Azura Thus the Pontifex isn't a jurisdiction ala the Prelacies, Diaconates and Canonries; it's just the governing body which oversees them.
  77. 21:31 Kylarnatia righto
  78. 21:31 Azura The highest jurisdiction is the whole of the country itself, known as the Præfect of Azura. The Præfectus of the Azur Orthordox Church (their version of a Pope) is the highest spiritual leader in the country, and has a great deal of sway over government affairs.
  79. 21:35 Azura Now then, here's how the civilian leadership, or 'Oratory Government' that we were talking about last night.
  80. 21:37 Kylarnatia Ja
  81. 21:40 Azura The supreme legislative body or Parliament of the country is known as the Chancel. The Chancel is made up of an Upper and Lower House, the Sacellum (Upper) and the Chantry (Lower). Members of the Sacellum are called Orators, and members of the Chantry are called Parsons
  82. 21:41 Azura The design is exactly the same to the British Parliament: only the Parsons are directly elected by the population.
  83. 21:41 Kylarnatia Wait
  84. 21:42 Kylarnatia If your Chantry is your Lower House, and the Parsons are basically MPs...then they're already elected by the population.
  85. 21:42 Azura ... Yes...
  86. 21:42 Azura Orators are not elected, they are appointed. Parsons are elected by the general population is what I'm saying.
  87. 21:43 Kylarnatia OH
  88. 21:43 Kylarnatia ffs
  89. 21:43 Azura lol
  90. 21:43 Kylarnatia sorry Azura, I misread you
  91. 21:43 Azura np
  92. 21:43 Kylarnatia I thought you meant 'only' as in 'except'
  93. 21:43 Kylarnatia ffs
  94. 21:43 Kylarnatia stupid fucking brain
  95. 21:44 Azura No worries, mate. But yeah, so the Chancel is the Parliament of Azura; the Orators of the Sacellum were the very first body of what is now the Chancel (hence 'Oratory Government') and are appointed at the discretion of the Vicar.
  96. 21:45 Azura Originally, the Vicar appointed Orators to the Sacellum to serve as legislative administrators of sorts; they still have a function, but the main power is vested in the hands of the elected Parsons in the Chantry.
  97. 21:45 Azura The Chantry was constituted later on, quite a few years after the Sacellum was first instituted.
  98. 21:46 Azura The Vicar of Tsyion is the head of the Oratory Government and the single most powerful individual in Azura, even over the Præfectus (designed as such to keep the Church Leadership and the Oratory Leadership separate, for reasons to be explained momentarily).
  99. 21:48 Kylarnatia Hmmm, cool
  100. 21:52 Azura The Vicar (or Vicaress) of Tsyion is tantamount to a King or Queen, and is descended from the House of Arundel-Holzknect and Descoteaux, which toppled the House of Arbuthnot and the Recreant Dynasty in the Azur Civil War (that creates this modern government).
  101. 21:52 Azura The Recreant Dynasty is analogous to Han Dynasty in its nomenclature, meaning it is the name for a period of time in which the rulers strayed from the Azur Orthodoxy into Catholicism.
  102. 21:54 Kylarnatia Oh dear
  103. 21:54 Azura The Recreant Kings ruled for about two hundred years before the Restorationists overthrew them. The newly-appointed King, blessed by the Præfectus, adopted the name 'Vicar', which sticks to the present.
  104. 21:55 Kylarnatia nods
  105. 21:56 Azura The Vicar(ess) of Tsyion, Tsyion representing both the seat of power, the colloquial name of the capital, and the Poetic name of Azura proper along with Caerulea, is somewhere between a constitutional monarch and an absolute monarch.
  106. 21:57 Azura They're not wholly autocratic in the dispensation of authority, in that they are bound by both the principles of the faith and a Constitution, but they have a lot of power over the Chancel.
  107. 21:57 Kylarnatia interesting, so semi-absolute/constitutional
  108. 22:14 Kylarnatia you still there Azura?
  109. 22:16 Azura Yeah, I just had a minor conniption fit on my cat.
  110. 22:17 Azura I live between three farms, so the houses in my neighborhood have a propensity to get 'uninvited guests' (aka field mice).
  111. 22:17 Kylarnatia Ahaha, so he brought you back a "gift"?
  112. 22:18 Azura I got a cat to act as a mouser, and he repaid my gratitude for a home by killing a mouse and flinging it on the floor right where I meant to walk.
  113. 22:18 Kylarnatia Hahaha, I know how Azura feels. I have three cats. They do it all the time. Nice to feel appreciated though.
  114. 22:18 Azura Yeah; it's the first time he's killed a mouse in a /long/ time. He was great when I first got him a couple of years ago, but then he got fat and lazy apparently so I had to go for poison and traps. This was the first mouse I've seen in quite awhile here.
  115. 22:19 Azura ANYWHO, where were we?
  116. 22:19 Kylarnatia You were telling me about the Vicar(ess) Azura
  117. 22:20 Azura Ah
  118. 22:21 Azura Yes, so, the Vicar/Vicaress of Tsyion is basically a semi-absolute monarch, a part of the Redressed Dynasty (which both followed and overthrew the Recreant Kings and Queens)
  119. 22:22 Kylarnatia Mhm
  120. 22:23 Azura The Vicar or Vicaress (from here on out simply 'Vicar' for ease of description, though it could be a Vicaress as well) does not appoint a Præfectus—the Pontifex elects a new Præfectus upon the death of the former—but the Vicar does answer to him. (The Præfectus is always a man, in keeping with the analogy to the RL Popes)
  121. 22:24 Azura At their coronation, the Vicar is blessed and installed by the Præfectus, who serves almost as the senior counsel to the Vicar during their reign.
  122. 22:25 Azura If the Vicar fails to uphold his divine obligation (the Doctrinal and Constitutional Duties outlined by the Church and the Azur Constitution), disenfranchised citizens may petition the Præfectus for a redress of grievances.
  123. 22:26 Kylarnatia Oooh, interesting.
  124. 22:28 Azura The Præfectus will then review the evidence presented at the hearing (which is called an Inquiry of Demission) and will make one of three rulings: Repudiation, Inspection, or Accession.
  125. 22:29 Azura In a Repudiation, the Præfectus rebukes the petitioners and decrees that no evidence of wrongdoing exists that would merit a continuation of the proceedings (in other words, they reject the grievances of the claimants).
  126. 22:31 Kylarnatia nods
  127. 22:31 Azura In an Inspection, the Præfectus denies the immediate petition of the disenfranchised, but also notes that potential wrongdoing exists, and the Vicar is put under a period of observation known as Recapitulation, where the Church continues to investigate the claims and monitors to see if wrongdoings warrant further action.
  128. 22:32 Azura A Vicar subjected to Recapitulation is essentially on permanent probation; you can never 'come off' Recapitulation, and to be placed under watch of the Church is considered a grave affront and dishonor to a sitting regent. It's only happened twice, and both times the regent wound up resigning instead of living under the scrutiny.
  129. 22:33 Kylarnatia I can imagine
  130. 22:34 Azura The third ruling is a momentous one: Accession.
  131. 22:37 Azura In an Accession, the Præfectus concludes that the petition of the aggrieved parties is valid, and that wrongdoing has occurred. The Præfectus then issues a Writ of Protestation against the Vicar and convenes the Pontifex for a formal hearing known as a Tribunal.
  132. 22:39 Azura At the Tribunal, the Præfectus presents his case to the Pontifex, which after hearing the evidence and debating it can issue one of two rulings, Intercession or Malfeasance.
  133. 22:40 Azura In either event, the Vicar has culpability for his or her wrongdoings; guilt was determined by the Præfectus upon the issuing of the Degree of Accession.
  134. 22:40 Kylarnatia Sounds rough.
  135. 22:41 Azura The Pontifex is largely debating the punishment. In a Writ of Intercession, the Pontifex concludes that while the Vicar/Vicaress knowingly committed wrongdoing in violation of their sacred oaths and responsibilities, the general ruling of the Tribunal is that the Vicar can be 'restored' through the Intercession of the Church.
  136. 22:41 Azura The regent is then placed under Recapitulation for the duration of his or her term.
  137. 22:43 Azura Or, the Pontifex can conclude that the wrongdoing of the Vicar is especially grievous, and that Intercession is not possible. Then they issue a Writ of Malfeasance, whereby the Vicar is removed from office and taken into custody.
  138. 22:44 Kylarnatia
  139. 22:45 Azura The now-removed Vicar will be brought before the Prelate of Friedrich (the capital city is under the Prelacy of Friedrich), who reviews the evidence presented hitherto at all stages of the process and issues a criminal ruling against the deposed Vicar.
  140. 22:46 Kylarnatia Pretty intense.
  141. 22:46 Azura The deposed Vicar cannot challenge the process up until this point: he or she is powerless while the Præfectus and the Pontifex rule on their ability to continue to reign. However, once removed to the prosecution of the Prelate, the deposed Vicar is permitted the recourse of petitioning the Præfectus for a retrial.
  142. 22:47 Azura The Præfectus can then either uphold the ruling of the Prelate or issue a Writ of Clemency, essentially pardoning the deposed Vicar from any criminal wrongdoing.
  143. 22:50 Kylarnatia nods
  144. 22:51 Kylarnatia So I'm going to assume that Calixte got caught up in some of this, or do you think she just chose to abdicate?
  145. 22:51 Azura In the 713 years since the beginning of the Redressed Dynasty in Azura, only four Vicars have gone through this process.
  146. 22:52 Azura I'm working up to Calixte, actually
  147. 22:52 Kylarnatia Kk
  148. 22:53 Azura Vicar Julian II (1481-1545) was challenged by the Sacellum (ironically the first Orators ever) over his refusal to heed their admonition over his persecution of Catholics and Jews in Azura. The Præfectus issued a Decree of Inspection, at which point the Vicar resigned.
  149. 22:54 Azura His grandson, Vicar Julian III (1530-1605) was ironically accused of the same charge by the Sacellum, but in this instance the Præfectus issued a Decree of Repudiation against the claimants, sparing the Vicar further trial.
  150. 22:57 Azura In 1806, Vicaress Evelyn of Wiltshire was challenged by the first-ever joint-resolution of the Chancel for waging an offensive war against foreign belligerents. Now, as an aside, this was a particularly dubious period because Evelyn had been prosecuting a number of 'defensive' wars that were actually offensive in nature for years.
  151. 22:58 Azura Ultimately, the stress on the nation's coffers, the suffering of its people, and the poor conduct of her final war led to the joint-resolution. The Præfectus in this instance issued a Decree of Accession and took the case before the Pontifex, which debated for seven full weeks before making their verdict known.
  152. 23:00 Azura It was known as the Autumn Tribunal, which recommended a Writ of Intercession be made against Vicaress Evelyn. Rather than live with Recapitulation, she abdicated to her daughter Catherine (the only instance of mother-to-daughter succession in Azuran history) and then committed suicide in her chalet.
  153. 23:01 Kylarnatia Well then
  154. 23:01 Azura [Brief aside: if a Vicar or Vicaress adopts a royal name that was previously used by another, they simply add their order to their title. Since Julian II was the second Vicar to bear the name, he's 'Julian II' obviously. But if a Vicar or Vicaress chooses a unique name, they are '(Name) of (Hometown)' in the records.]
  155. 23:03 Kylarnatia Interesting
  156. 23:03 Azura Thus, Evelyn of Wiltshire upon her abdication and eventual suicide passes the throne to her daughter, who takes the name Catherine, the second Vicaress to do so, thus becoming Catherine II.
  157. 23:05 Kylarnatia nods
  158. 23:05 Azura There have been seven Vicaresses in Azuran history: Catherine of Launcen, Jessamyn of Sanfordshire, Tamsen of Williamstown, Evelyn of Wiltshire, Catherine II, Tamsen II, and Calixte of Legnica.
  159. 23:07 Azura (There were also a handful of Empress-Queens before the Redressed Dynasty, but that's neither here nor there)
  160. 23:08 Azura Jessamyn of Sanfordshire and Tamsen II are nothing uber-special, but the other five are immensely important in Azuran history in their own special way.
  161. 23:08 Kylarnatia 'Launcen' I c wut u did thar
  162. 23:08 Azura Yes you did
  163. 23:08 Kylarnatia
  164. 23:09 Kylarnatia 04:08 Azura Jessamyn of Sanfordshire and Tamsen II are nothing uber-special, but the other five are immensely important in Azuran history in their own special way. <<< *Jessamyn and Tamsen II proceed to cry in corner*
  165. 23:10 Azura Well, they led relatively uneventful reigns is what I meant. In the grand scheme of things, it would be like comparing Edward VIII, who did next to nothing in his short reign, to Elizabeth I, Victoria, or even Elizabeth II.
  166. 23:11 Kylarnatia /dude/
  167. 23:11 Kylarnatia Edward VIII brought swag, that's /something/
  168. 23:11 Kylarnatia lol jk
  169. 23:12 Kylarnatia He got married to Simpson and was fond of Hitler; suffice to say we don't talk about him much.
  170. 23:13 Azura lol
  171. 23:13 Azura But yeah, touching on a question you raised earlier, Calixte was the fourth who went through this process.
  172. 23:14 Azura The 'Trial of Calixte of Legnica' was actually a very controversial episode in Azuran history, scandalous in its decidedly-unfortunate ramifications.
  173. 23:16 Kylarnatia Oh?
  174. 23:17 Azura Calixte of Legnica/Calixte (since you obviously know who I'm talking about ) was accused by then-High Chancellor Alistair Bergen (a member of the Conservative Caucus) in mid-2013 of being a profligate regent, which is a major charge.
  175. 23:19 Azura Being accused of being a Profligate is a polite way of saying that one is either an Apostate (possibly a Catholic, but typically an agnostic or atheist) at best or, at worst, a non-Christian adherent to another faith, the assertion meaning /Pagan/ or /Satanic/.
  176. 23:20 Azura The term had fallen into disuse by the twenty-first century, because it was the twenty-first fucking century. Initially the Præfectus refuses to hear the charges, but a public smear campaign by Bergen forces the Præfectus to hear the case in May 2014.
  177. 23:21 Azura [Part of the responsibility of a Vicar or Vicaress is to defend the Azuran Church, which they must be a part of]
  178. 23:22 Kylarnatia nods
  179. 23:22 Azura So to be accused of being a Profligate, which is a nice way of saying a Subversive to the Church, is basically one of the only ways a Vicar or Vicaress can be removed without having actually committed a crime.
  180. 23:23 Azura Calixte, instead of doing the sensible thing and letting the Præfectus absolve her, takes her case to the public in an effort to win over reforms that she had long-championed, giving more rights to the LGBT community (a move that did not immediately endear her to the more conservative-minded Church).
  181. 23:24 Azura During the summer of 2014, the immense stress of the Inquiry of Demission began to adversely affect her health, which was already troubled by her illness that had weakened her as her reign progressed.
  182. 23:26 Kylarnatia right, right
  183. 23:27 Azura Ultimately, Præfectus Balthazar IX issued a Decree of Repudiation against Bergen on July 27th, 2014; two hours later, Calixte delivered her first public address after having her name cleared. During her speech, she became more and more unsteady, until she partly-collapsed against the podium, and had to be rushed inside for medical treatment.
  184. 23:29 Azura Bergen used his concession speech to further question Calixte and whether she was fit to continue her duties as Vicaress, which drew the ire of two people who become known as 'Calixte's Benefactors': Alexander Scott and John Francis Chanslor.
  185. 23:30 Azura Scott is the Leader of the Opposition in the Chantry, and has long viewed Bergen's attack on Calixte as being politically motivated. John Francis Chanslor is Bergen's Vice Chancellor, and is also becoming concerned over Bergen's incessant campaign to force Calixte from office.
  186. 23:31 Kylarnatia Hmmmm, interesting.
  187. 23:32 Azura As it turns out, Scott and Chanslor (in a unique show of bipartisanship) launch a formal inquiry into the Chancellor, and uncover a conspiracy. Bergen had accepted over $500,000 from Donald P. Sampson, the Party Chairman of the Azura First Coalition, a far-right conservative-nationalist organization that objected to the presence of a female state regent.
  188. 23:33 Kylarnatia Well shit
  189. 23:33 Kylarnatia $500,000? What a cheap ass.
  190. 23:33 Azura Bergen, looking for continued support from what was at the time a small but vocal element of the Conservative base in Azura, cut a deal to publicly attempt to disgrace and/or push Calixte out of office by levying false accusations against her publicly, which brought about the Inquiry of Demission.
  191. 23:35 Azura Alexander Scott and John Chanslor hold a press conference on September 1st, 2014 to announce the findings of their investigation, which culminates in a recommendation to the Chantry to begin drawing up Articles of Impeachment against the High Chancellor.
  192. 23:36 Azura Bergen initially refuses to cede his post, but Chanslor does the unthinkable and issues a call for a Vote of No Confidence amongst Bergen. The motion is defeated by one vote, which ends with Bergen rescinding Chanslor's post as Vice Chancellor and his membership in the Conservative Caucus. But Chanslor's sacrifice proves fatal to Bergen's tenure.
  193. 23:38 Azura It galvanizes the opposition, who rallies around Scott in passing Articles of Impeachment. The Præfectus takes only thirty minutes to approve Bergen's removal, and he is formally arrested in his office for conspiracy, profiteering, and corruption.
  194. 23:38 Kylarnatia Damn
  195. 23:39 Kylarnatia That's what you get for only accepting $500,000
  196. 23:40 Azura The new acting Chancellor, Eden Montgomery pushes for the Conservative Caucus to restore Chanslor's membership in the party, but he resigns as a Parson of the Chantry before the vote can be complete. Montgomery, in what amounts to a very noble and humble gesture, refrains from accepting the formal position of the High Chancellery and calls for a Snap election
  197. 23:41 Azura The new Vicar approves (more on this momentarily), and on October 25th, 2014, Alexander Scott of the Social Democratic Unity becomes the new High Chancellor. At Scott's recommendation, the new Vicar appoints John Chanslor to his Privy Council, rewarding him for his selfless sacrifice in the defense of his country's honor.
  198. 23:43 Kylarnatia Cool.
  199. 23:43 Azura Alistair Bergen is convicted by the Prelate of Friedrich on all twenty-five counts brought against him, and sentences him to life imprisonment without the benefit of parole on April 21st, 2015. On April 25th, Præfectus Balthazar IX (in his last official act before his death on April 27th) refutes Bergen's request for Clemency.
  200. 23:45 Azura Bergen is committed to MSP Searchlight (Maximum Security Penitentiary) on April 26th, where he will spend the rest of his life living in solitary confinement 24 hours a day.
  201. 23:45 Azura Now, backing up: Calixte collapsing. She knew that she was sick well before the episode with Bergen and her Inquiry, but she had managed to keep it hidden from the public. However, collapsing on national television prevents her from keeping it hidden any longer.
  202. 23:48 Azura Præfectus Balthazar (taking on a rather extraordinary role as a direct personal counsel to Calixte, in light of the strain of the Inquiry) visits her during her convalescence on July 29th, 2014, where she confides her illness to him.
  203. 23:48 Azura The two speak behind closed doors for almost three hours.
  204. 23:48 Kylarnatia nods
  205. 23:49 Azura On July 30th, 2014, Calixte summons her nephew Ezra Curzon to Friedrich; without heir, she intends with the Præfectus's blessing to appoint him as her successor.
  206. 23:51 Azura On August 1st, 2014, Calixte addresses the nation live via television and formally announces her medical condition, relinquishing her claim on the Throne of Tsyion to her heir apparent, Ezra. Two hours later, she boards her private plane bound for Krytopia, and Præfectus Balthazar formally gives Ezra the oath shortly before midnight.
  207. 23:52 Azura Ezra's formal coronation takes place the next day on Saturday, August 2nd, 2014 in Friedrich, where he adopts the royal title Alexander III, Vicar of Tsyion.
  208. 23:53 Azura Balthazar, it is revealed after the fact of his death by Calixte, confided in Calixte during their meeting on July 29th that he was living with terminal cancer, and had urged her not to let her years be spent under the toils of the 'vanity of leadership'.
  209. 23:54 Kylarnatia Hmmmm, interesting.
  210. 23:54 Azura Balthazar passes away in his sleep on April 27th, 2015, and is lauded by both Vicar Alexander III, Calixte of Legnica, and his successor Præfectus Cyrenius XIV as a champion of truth and justice.
  211. 23:56 Azura Thus Azura's leadership now looks like this: His Majesty Alexander III, Vicar of Tsyion; His Eminence Præfectus Cyrenius XIV, High Chancellor Alexander Scott, Vice Chancellor Shaun Young, and Leader of the Opposition Eden Montgomery
  212. 23:58 Azura Calixte is honored in early May 2015 by her newphew, the new Vicar with a special title: Her Grace Calixte of Legnica, Legate of the Evenguard
  213. 23:58 Kylarnatia Nice, nice
  214. 00:00 Azura Under this new system, a Legate is essentially a special envoy, ostensibly serving under an Ambassador but typically viewed and held by the general public in a higher light.
  215. 00:00 Kylarnatia lol, nice
  216. 00:01 Azura She is the Chargé d'Affaires of the Special Diplomatic Mission to Kylarnatia, working under Ambassador Korzakhov
