  34. Bio : There once was a young woman named Maria Vega who was a serving girl in the Free Port of Setine. One night, she allowed a handsome corsair by the name of Renault Itsair into her bed. He left on the tide, but he left behind a daughter who would be born nine months later: Sheila Vega.
  35. Sheila was a rowdy girl growing up, fast to pick fights with other children, whether they be girls or boys. She was happy, but the port didn't appeal to her. Even at the tender age of 11, she knew that this wasn't where she wanted to stay.
  36. By chance, Renault had returned to the port, and had overheard in a tavern stories of a child, 11 years old, with bright green hair and a fire in her belly. After some digging, he found where the child lived, and was surprised to find a daughter answer the door. Renault spoke to Maria for hours, telling her where he'd been, that he still loved her, and explaining how he never suspected he had left her with child, and that he was overjoyed to be a father.
  37. Maria was less than thrilled when he informed her that Sheila would be leaving with him. Determined to get to know his daughter on his own terms, Renault grabbed the crying girl, knocked out the screaming mother, and returned to his ship.
  38. For days, Sheila refused to speak to her father, who had taken her away from everything she'd known. When a week had passed, she finally spoke more than curses and insults to him, to ask when she could go home. To her surprise, he told her that she could return in a year.
  39. But as time went on, Sheila fell in love with life at sea. The salt in the air, the smell of the wind, and the motion of the boat itself made her happier than she'd ever been on land. She'd at first been opposed to her father's attacks on Imperial vessels, but his arguments against the government and for his crew won her over, and though she was forbidden to participate at first, she reveled in watching the battles.
  40. When the time came for Sheila to return home, she told Renault, who she'd long since taken to calling "Daddy", that she didn't wish to return home any longer. He just smiled, and said to her "As you wish." Not long after, Renault began teaching his daughter how to use an axe.
  41. A little more than five years later, their vessel was sunken in a mighty storm, and Sheila washed ashore with nothing and no one. Since then, she has taken to theft, mercenary work, and other methods to keep herself fed and clothed.
