  1.
  2. >Brad's steps fell heavy against the floor as he paced in front of the door.
  3. >He'd really done it now. What he did behind that door was sure to get him caught.
  4. >He got too greedy, and his luck was starting to cash its chips.
  5. >There was no way he'd get away with Rarity's assault, especially when he was the only man in the house.
  6. "Shit shit shit!" he whispered to himself, "Fuck!"
  7. >He scuffed his feet against the carpet and put a fist to his forehead.
  8. "I was so careful! Every little detail covered up, every witness dealt with! How could I make such a rookie mistake?!"
  9. >He gave the wall a swift kick. His blood was getting hotter by the second.
  10. "Even if I did clean her up, it's still obvious! They won't lift any DNA, but they wouldn't need it. There's only one man in the house!"
  11. >Brad took a couple of shallow breaths, trying to regain his composure.
  12. >It wasn't like him to freak out like this, and he'd gotten through worse before.
  13. >If he lost his cool now, there would be no doubt about what he did, and putting two and two together here wasn't difficult.
  14. >He always got through it by stopping to think, and now would be no exception.
  15. >Brad's clock was ticking down; he could only run away for so long.
  16. >The police were starting to wise up, and all the reports were pointing right to him.
  17. >This rape would just be a nail in the coffin now. The instant they got a hand on the report, they'd know just who to catch.
  18. >They'd have no one else to look for. They'd be entirely focused on Brad, like a horse with blinders on.
  19. "That's just it," he thought, "The cops won't chase me...if they're too busy chasing me..."
  20. >Brad had a wicked idea, and the more he repeated it to himself the less convinced he was of it working.
  21. >He reminded himself of an octopus. When cornered with no way out, the octopus fills the water with thick, black ink.
  22. >With the predator distracted by the gooey cloud of darkness, the octopus doesn't run---that would only give away its position.
  23. >Rather, it finds the nearest rock, coral, or cave, and blends right in. It changes color and texture to perfectly match what's around it.
  24. >When the ink clears, the predator is left dazed, confused, with an invisible prey staring up at him.
  25. >Its meal is sitting right in front of it, hiding in plain sight.
  26. >Angry at the trickery, the predator swims off, determined to find the prey that fooled it.
  27. "I got it," he smirked, "All I need now is a smoke screen."
  28. >He looked outside. He only had a few hours before morning.
  29. >If he waited too long to throw up the ink, the predators would have already locked on to him.
  30. >He needed only throw them off the trail for a little while, just enough to blend into the sea floor.
  31. >He crept down the stairs, careful not to wake any of the girls, and slipped outside.
  32. >He looked around for something heavy, but small enough to throw. A large pebble sat in her garden.
  33. "Perfect," he said. It only weighed a few ounces, but it was just what he needed.
  34. >He took aim for his target, the second-story window on the right hand side, and fired.
  35. >The rock arced right through the window, crashing inside in a hail of glass.
  36. >It wasn't too loud, not loud enough to wake up the sleeping girls downstairs, at least.
  37. >He snuck through the den where the girls lied, tiptoeing far away from their sleeping bags.
  38. >A quick but quiet trip up the stairs and around the corner brought him back into Rarity's room.
  39. >Everything was as it was before, except for a small, grey sphere that sat on the carpet, with shards of glass lying all around it.
  40. >It looked convincing enough, but the hole it left in the window was far too small to be believable.
  41. >His smokescreen wasn't thick enough yet. He just had to add more ink.
  42. >Rarity was still out cold; whatever she'd had was a little too strong for her.
  43. >But Brad was thankful for that, as he could alter the room without much worry.
  44. >He went over to the window and stuck his hand through the hole. It was about as wide as his forearm.
  45. >He curled his wrist and pressed his fingers against the outside of the window.
  46. >The fractures in the glass compromised its strength, and Brad was able to push out shards with ease.
  47. >He had to be extremely careful, not letting a single piece fall outside the window.
  48. >If somebody broke through the window from the outside, the pieces would fall inside.
  49. >A couple falling the other way is believable, but if there's a disproportion, red flags would start going up, and Brad could not allow that.
  50. >He broke the window until the hole was large enough for his shoulders to squeeze through.
  51. >There was one more thing he had to do, and the smokescreen would be complete.
  52. >Her room was on the second floor. If someone broke in through the window, there'd have to be a ladder.
  53. >Getting an actual ladder was tedious, dangerous, and didn't leave a lot of evidence.
  54. >He instead took the rock and leaned over the windowsill outside. It was made of old wood, the kind that would easily warp under the weight of a thief on a ladder.
  55. >He spent the next couple minutes banging the rock against the windowsill, driving two grooves about a foot apart in the wood.
  56. >They didn't have to be too deep, just noticeable. Once he was satisfied, he gripped the rock and flung it as far as he could.
  57. >Confident he'd put all the pieces in place, he headed for the door, taking care to lock the door behind him.
  58. >He turned around and tried wriggling the knob. It didn't budge.
  59. >He wore a smile but his heart was thumping hard. His future rode on this diversion, his crafted smokescreen.
  60. >He'd gotten away with worse before, but if he didn't pull this off, he'd be a dead man.
  61. >He tried not to think about it too much and went to the kitchen to get something to drink.
  62. >A tall glass of milk always calmed him down, and he needed it more than ever.
  63. >He poured his glass and leaned on the counter, gulping down the milk.
  64. >Through the bottom of the glass he saw something that nearly made him choke.
  65. >A thin blue figure shimmered in the glass, with her rainbow hair reflecting across the cup.
  66.
  67. "R-Rainbow?!" Brad put his glass on the counter. He needed to see her with his own eyes to make it true. The glass wasn't playing tricks on him.
  68. >"Hey Brad...I didn't think you'd be in here." She stood with her legs planted and a broad smile stretched across her face.
  69. >She always did try to look powerful, even in front of him.
  70. "Me neither," he smiled, "I just came to get some milk. I can't sleep without it, yanno?"
  71. >"Yeah, I know how you feel," Dash went over to the pantry and flung open the door, "I just came in for a midnight snack."
  72. >Her eyes lit up and she reached deep into the cabinet. A couple seconds later she pulled out a box of Oreos.
  73. >It still had about 30 cookies inside, all neatly stacked like soldiers off to war.
  74. >Rainbow broke the ranks, grabbed a handful, and shoveled them between her teeth.
  75. >She ate like she'd never had an Oreo before, wolfing down five to ten cookies per gulp.
  76. "Uh, Dash, you sure that's good for your figure?"
  77. >"Shut up," she waved him off, "It's not my fault I got these killer cravings. Blame the little guy down there."
  78. >She pointed at her stomach, but she didn't really need to.
  79. >It had been a couple weeks or so since she told him, and she was just barely starting to show.
  80. >To anyone else it might have looked like fat (considering how many Oreos she was eating at once, it might have been), but only they knew the real reason.
  81. "Oh. How's he doing, anyway?"
  82. >"He's fine," she scarfed down the last Oreo and tossed the box in the trash, "Or she's fine, whatever."
  83. "Have you...told anyone?"
  84. >"Nah. Didn't think anyone needed to know."
  85. "They don't! I just wanted to make sure."
  86. >"Uh-huh," she walked over to him and leaned on the counter beside him, "Say Brad, you know you can't keep what he have a secret for long."
  87. "I know that, Dashie," he said, "I just don't know how to tell her..."
  88. >"The bookworm? Don't worry about her. She'd rather get A's than keep a boyfriend."
  89. >Her voice took a noticeable turn. It was much less casual and dripped with venom.
  90. >It wasn't a sharp, stinging venom, but a slow, burrowing bug that wriggled its way inside.
  91. "Really? She seemed pretty attached to me."
  92. >"Oh sure. She can't get enough of you, whether you like it or not..."
  93. >She said those last words with a little too much of a sing-song.
  94. "What do you mean 'whether I like it or not'?"
  95. >"Oh yeah, I guess they didn't tell you..." she started to giggle, which only made Brad more furious.
  96. "What are you hiding, Rainbow?"
  97. >"Twilight shared a little story with us, bragging about sleeping with you, as usual."
  98. >He raised an eyebrow. He wasn't sure where this story was going or why Rainbow looked so happy to tell it.
  99. >"And then she says something funny. She says, 'He's even hotter when he's sleeping. Everytime I see him lying all quiet and peaceful I just want to be with him more than anything'. Then she spills the beans. You ever wonder why Twilight never puts out for you?"
  100. >Her questions were like daggers, slicing through him bit by bit. This was getting way too personal.
  101. >How did she know all this? What else does she know? What else do they talk about?!?
  102. "Twi-Twily's too busy with her books," his hands shook, "She doesn't have time..."
  103. >"Uh-huh. Or maybe it's because he already gets her rocks off while you're sleeping."
  104. "What?!"
  105. >"You heard me, babe. Think of all the times you've fallen asleep before her. You don't think she stayed up that late just to study, did you?"
  106. >He started having flashbacks, thoughts of all those nights whizzing around in his head, all those mornings waking up drained and warm.
  107. "N-no...I didn't..."
  108. >"Oh yeah, the little bookworm's had a LOT of fun with you over the past few months," Rainbow giggled.
  109. "That's ridiculous!" he snapped, "Twilight would never---"
  110. >"Rape you?"
  111. >It was like the world collapsed all at once. All the sounds went silent, all the sights went black, and all his thoughts went blank.
  112. >He'd been knocked onto the other side of the tracks. The weight of that word fell hard on his shoulders.
  113. "R-Rape?"
  114. >"She fucked you without asking, right?" Dash donned a serious expression, like a mother talking to her son, "I'm pretty sure that's 'rape' if I've ever heard it."
  115. >He'd never had to be placed on the business end of "raped" before. He'd always been the one before, not after.
  116. "B-but...Twilight wouldn't...she couldn't!"
  117. >"It's always the ones you don't expect," Rainbow shook her head and downed her drink, "I didn't think little old Twilight had it in her."
  118. "Always the ones you don't expect...if you only knew, Dash," he thought to himself.
  119. >She had to be telling him this for a reason, and she didn't seem like she was lying.
  120. >The more he thought about it, the more useful it seemed.
  121. >If he really wanted to disappear, had to write Twilight out of the equation.
  122. "M-Me neither, but..." Brad grabbed Dash's wrist and held her hand between his fingers, "At least I know you'd never do that to me, Dashie."
  123. >Brad watched carefully. Her little fist curled up inside his hands and her pulse fluttered.
  124. >"Well yeah..." she said, "I would ask first."
  125. >She gave a nervous chuckle and had a problem keeping eye contact with him.
  126. "Dash, you're acting like a little girl," Brad smiled, "I think it's pretty obvious how we feel about each other."
  127. >Brad brought a hand down to her stomach and rubbed in small circles.
  128. >It was a firm, rounded hump, supported by her powerful core. Dash said nothing and only took deep breaths the more he carressed her.
  129. "He's going to be gorgeous, you know."
  130. >"He got most of that from you," Dash ran her fingers through his hair, "I really hope he has your hair."
  131. "SHE could have YOUR hair too, babe."
  132. >"He---or she---will look awesome either way."
  133. >Brad stood back up and met her gaze again. He cupped his hands around her back, holding her just above the hip.
  134. "And I want to be there with you, Dashie."
  135. >Her eyes flew open and she stood up on her tiptoes. This is exactly what she wanted.
  136. >"You really mean it, Brad? What about Twilight?"
  137. "Forget about her. She never cared about me as much as you do. I love you, Dashie."
  138. >Before Rainbow could say "I love you" back, Brad already locked her in a tight embrace and kissed her.
  139. >She turned to putty in his grip, and her heart thumped fast against his chest. She threw her arms around him, pulling him even closer.
  140. >After what seemed like hours they broke the kiss. Now that Brad had her hooked, he had to reel her in.
  141. "Dash, if we want this to work, there's some very important things we have to do."
  142. >She seemed out of it; the shock of finally embracing him again was a little too much.
  143. >Still, she turned her eyes right up to his and listened, like a dog waiting for its treat.
  144. >"Anything to be together with you, Brad."
  145. "Alright, first off, Twilight is going to be furious when she finds out."
  146. >"Who cares?"
  147. "I don't care about her, it's the rest of them. If I break up with Twi for you, they'll all turn against us. I want to still be their friends, and I'm sure you do too."
  148. >"Yeah," Dash gulped, "I really don't want to lose my friends because of that jealous, backstabbing bookworm."
  149. "Right. So I think I have a plan that could let us still be lovers, be friends with the others, and live together in peace after we graduate."
  150. >"Oooh, I already know where we'll live!" she said, her grin threatening to overflow her cheeks, "I got a soccer scholarship to that college in Fillydelphia, that really big one. It pays for everything, even my apartment off-campus. We can live there together!"
  151. "That sounds wonderful, Dashie," he smiled.
  152. >Every word out of her mouth was like taking a weight off his shoulders. More and more the door to salvation started to open.
  153. >But it was still too early to walk through. If he was found out, no matter how far he ran, the long arm of the law would catch him eventually.
  154. >He had to make absolutely sure he was cleared, positive that no one would be able to find him.
  155. >All he needed was her cooperation, and they'd be together in peace.
  156. >"Doesn't it?" she said, "I get to be a sports star, and raise a kid with you at the same time! I know that's really girly, but with you, we're gonna have an awesome kid."
  157. "You betcha. But let's not get too far ahead, Dash. We have to follow the plan."
  158. >"Okay," she sighed, coming down from her daydream, "What do you want to do?"
  159. "The plan is..."
  160. >Brad took a deep breath through his nose and let it out slowly.
  161. >He put his hands on her shoulders and looked into her calm, rosey eyes.
  162.
  163. "I have to disappear."
  164. >"Disappear?" she gasped.
  165. "Not literally, just...not be 'Brad' anymore. Change my looks, hair, name, whatever."
  166. >"How is that going to help?"
  167. "Think about it, Dash," he ran a finger through a loose strand of her hair, "No one knows we're together, but everyone knows I'm with Twilight. If I disguise myself, everyone will think Brad ran away, and you hooked up with the new kid."
  168. >"But Twilight's going to be really upset," Dash replied, "It's not a pretty sight when a guy dumps a girl, especially when he didn't say anything."
  169. "I know, Dash," Brad looked at the floor, "I know. It's not going to be easy seeing her cry like that, but the important thing is that she won't be mad at us specifically."
  170. >"I guess that makes sense..."
  171. >Rainbow wasn't too hard to convince already, but the passion of embracing her lover again were like a pair of blinders on a horse.
  172. >Brad smiled and held her close. Rainbow lied her head on his chest, lulled by the gentle rising of his breath.
  173. "Trust me Rainbow," he whispered, "If we pull this off, no one will bother us. You'll go to the school of your dreams, not to mention raise him together."
  174. >He rubbed her stomach again. The tension in her heart eased up, spreading a warm glow across her belly just under his hand.
  175. >She'd missed him so much, and everything about him. His voice, his gaze, and his touch all came back to her, and she wondered how she'd lived without him.
  176. >His dream of the future was absolutely perfect, and she would help him get to it.
  177.
  178. >"Say Brad, how long has it been since...yanno."
  179. >She gestured downwards with a flick of her head.
  180. "I dunno, a month, maybe."
  181. >"That's a long time without you, Brad," her voice took a sudden, sultry tone, "It's been awfully lonely..."
  182. "Is that so?" he chuckled, "Maybe we should get a little more intimate now, hmm?"
  183. >"You betcha. I think we can set up a little playtime tomorrow night."
  184. "It's a date," Brad looked down at her stomach, "You think the little guy'll mind?"
  185. >"What he won't know won't hurt him," Dash wore the biggest smile she'd had all month.
  186. >"And by the way, Brad," she gave her chest a little shake, although there wasn't really anything to shake on there.
  187. >"I've got something to show you tomorrow...I think you'll like it..."
  188. >The smug grin she gave him was both the most exciting and calming thing he'd seen all month.
  189. >He could feel it. The winds were shifting. Things were starting to turn for the better.
  190. >All he need to do was get through this morning unharmed...a couple more hours...
  191. >And he'd be home free.
  192. TO BE CONTINUED...
