There's been a lot of drama over the last few days surrounding Mr Easy and /u/pirateflap (Subvibee). I've sat back and watched people speculate, have wild accusations, and start witch-hunts against every moderator - and to be honest, I'm embarrassed by the community's actions. I'll get to that, but here is the full story, as unbiased as I can make it.
I was in a party with Mr Easy, Xalvorian and one other person. We'd been looking for a Nex world for the better part of an hour and were starting to get fed up. We arrived on a world an Xalvorian noticed that Subvibee was with a mass on this world. We were pretty sick of hopping, noticed there was no Vex - the troll was on.
As a little background, Subvibee is a rank in this massing FC; at the time they had around 10 people or so. A virtus tank, at least 5 people with drygores, and a few others with chaotics. We had 4 people with drygores. Four people, against ten. This wasn't a serious crash, and we were trolling them nonstop - friendly banter, nothing derogatory, he IS part of the clan after all.
If you look at his post, you can see Xal attempting to troll (he's really terrible at it) - OTS Redditors Boi - I mean c'mon Xal, you can do better. To add a cherry to the top, both Easy and Xal died (the more you read, the more of a noob you realize Xal is :D ) and it was over. This was one kill in. We weren't disruptive, and if anything, we sped up that kill for them. After that, we left. End of story.
Now, Subvibee posts his picture to /r/runescape without any context. Immediately people start upvoting him and telling him how shitty the Reddit Moderators/Admins are - and he rides the karma train, and begins bashing. Up 'til this point, Mr Easy had done nothing wrong - but he got hotheaded and lashed out against the masses of people trashing him.
I'm not supporting what he did, but I understand that he was attempting to do - defend himself. Each and every one of us would have done the same thing. Both Subvibee and Easy told a slightly altered version of their stories to gain more support. Neither one of them is in the right. However, we as a community decided to piss on the Moderator/Admin(s).
Every moderator was attacked. These are mods that are constantly removing phishing links, posting threads to try to move our community to something better - something that I've been working on for a while here - and they do it for us. They don't get paid, they don't get any special bonus for it - it's all volunteer work. They pool together their gold to pay out the raffle for capping every week. They give out advice - on mumble Easy would bring people to kalphite king with us and show them the ropes, and help them get into pvm. He just had a Nex mass for the clan. A_Mudkip pays for a mumble server for all of us to use (not enough of us utilize it). Pantsu had a few events a week or two back - taking time away from a kalphite group that was averaging 2-3 mainhand splits per night to help out you guys. The point here is that you don't give these guys enough credit, and for that, I am ashamed.
Now, Mr Easy obviously made a mistake, he banned Subvibee, and he shouldn't have. A simple apology and an unban would have been just fine. But no, we wanted his motherfucking head. This was preposterous - he had to go. Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid.
This drops us down to 3 active moderators (Nova w/ school/work etc) - simply not enough to protect the newer, or more naive members from some of the phishing links that do pop up. Easy might not have been well liked, but he did his fucking job.
He should have been punished, but taking away a Moderator rank on the subreddit and his admin from the clan was unjust. He's put countless hours for it, he's worked on building it and we shit on him. Knee-jerk reactions happen during times like this, and we need to avoid them. Nova reacted while he was still upset, and shouldn't have. Cooler heads needed to prevail, and they simply didn't.
